go ahead, get at me - Mace - Aug 28, 2013

OOC: I set this in Secret Falls but technically he's on DWR borders on their side of the river. I guess he could yell back and forth with someone on the borders. :P

IC: A light drizzle showered the entirety of the Vale of Secrets, shrouding it in a light mist that seemed heaviest over the falls, where water was thrown up in a wild spray to accompany the rain itself. It leant the Darkwater Rapids territory even more mystique and allure, and kept the wolves that called it home safely hidden from the rest of the world. Their hidden havens was a blessing to them, and to their enemies, a curse. The Attaya children would grow up knowing this secrecy as a normality, and in fact, would become secretive themselves because of it, without ever realizing it.

Already, the eldest of the quartet was light and sure-footed when it came to walking, and part of it had to do with being brought up in a territory that was fabled to be hidden, and feeling the need to keep it a secret. Part of it also had to do with his attempts to become an accomplished hunter — Rowan had caught a hare just the other day, leaving Mace feeling slightly bested but determined to one-up his siblings, so he had been making strong advances in his hunting technique that might otherwise had been unheard of for him — and yet another part was simply due to his being a wolf, and wolves being graceful and quiet creatures.

As he picked his way around a bend in the river, however, he was unconscious to all of this; none of his quietude was on purpose, none of his strides carefully monitored. It had simply come with the territory of getting older and getting bigger, and now was part of who he was. Despite his thicker build (especially compared to his sisters, who were beginning to show some of the slimness of female wolves in particular, rather than the chunkiness that plagued puppies of any gender), he was not clumsy and brutish, although he couldn't be said to be amazingly graceful, either. He moved like a wolf, which was probably better than moving like a bear, even though sometimes his broadening shoulders and chest made him feel like he should've been a bear.

The young prince paused in his meandering along the bank. His nose tilted skyward momentarily, only for his legs to splay slightly so he could shake out his fur. It had only been a few short weeks since Mace had been caught unaware in a thunderstorm, and though he was coming to an age now where he felt he needed to start being independent — although he was very much still a mama's boy, he just boasted more so as to sound less like it — he was still worried about the rain. He was still worried the sky would darken on him and he would be lost again, and he was equally worried that this time, Maksim would leave him out there.

However, the sky was only a light shade of grey, and the rain had been nothing but an on-and-off sprinkle all day, so despite his anxiety, he had come out to trace the river anyway, secretly pretending he was Kade patrolling the territory even though he didn't yet know too much about actually doing it properly.

A r l e t t e

You're a hard soul to save with an ocean in the way.

The day was hazy, and her white coat damp. Why did it always have to rain when she dared venture into unknown lands? Internally, she sighed. She had trekked far today, and there looked to be no end in sight to miles or water."Least, it's only light rain,"she murmured to herself, continuing her pressing trot through the forest.

Ever since Ice had told her Kade and Ava lived to the north she knew she wanted to see them. The family they had created, and the image of them standing side by side didn't quite cut it. Since, now she knew Maksim was part of their family it eased a lot of anxiety. Of coarse she had let a some time pass before finding courage, but when the sun began to touch the sky she knew she was ready. After her reunion with Elettra something had changed inside of her. If what had snapped was trying to piece itself together. While the lady tried not to let her hopes get to high, thinking seeing them would make her feel better, she couldn't help but feel excited, hopeful again.

At last she was part of a pack again, but it was a hard adjustment. She didn't quite feel she fit in, rarely speaking to anyone. When she had realized Merlin had found them first she had kept herself scarce to avoid a confrontation. Even though she had heard him, and Ice had set off on search for Jessie's sister now, she still hadn't forced herself to do much. Sure, she caught game and took it to the den for the boys, but she was afraid of getting attached. The pale wolf hadn't even spoke with Fenru, and began to wonder if she should leave before Merlin returned for good. Raising herself up to be crushed once more she wanted to believe was avoidable.

Scolding herself, she twitched her tail, again trying to figure where Darkwater Rapids was exactly. The further she carried herself, she couldn't find a trace of wolf. The rain begin to dampen her spirits too. Maybe, they were much farther, out of her reach just like Borden and Jaysyek. Off to the right, she was sure she heard the rush of water. Despite not exactly wanting to find the rapids themselves she cautiously, worked her way there.

Even with caution, the ground was wet, slippery to her untrained paws, and with the mist of rain it didn't take much for her to make the wrong step. One stretching stride through the brush and oh she found the river all right. Splash! falling face first into the cold water instantly soaking her fur, pulling her down its natural course. All she could think was, Don't panic! There was no one to shove her head in the water this time. Head popping up she forced out water, and took in air. Then desperately, she worked her front limbs, trying to pull herself to shore she even didn't notice the dark pup who wandered among its other side. The river was strong, and continued to pull her without a thought. Lettie began to whimper, remembering all too well how painful it felt drowning.
