cutting through - Eoghan - Nov 30, 2010

Icy ears snapped forward as the rush of tumultuous water crashed amongst the banks of the river severing the grove from the tangle of overgrowth he had just abandoned. Steely-yellow eyes scanned the vast horizon with a scrutinizing glare. The scents that whispered along the cool Northern breeze were inhaled, processed, and returned again with a small exhale of breath. Moisture clung to the environment and distant trees were wrapped in a shroud of emerald moss. A push of haunches threw him against the jutting rock that peeked out from beneath the rushing water. Talons hardly gripped the slippery surface and the large, looming male faltered before righting once again. Another stretch of limbs carried him across the treacherous gap of water and another push of haunches produced him upon the bank of the Sacred Grove.

Every ounce of his being could feel the tremor-like pulses that radiated up from the loamy terrain. Jawline tilted upwards to regard the crystalline sky and the dipping flit of bird's wings that danced in the mid-noon sunshine. Though the ball of light illuminated the terrain clouds blotted out the rays periodically and hinted at an impending storm.

Hackles ruffled in the cool swaths of wind before attention resurfaced upon the distance and the lack of living creatures within the unusual landscape. Undaunted, the large male continued onwards with a forward, uninhibited stride. Ears were alert and nostrils worked the air in an ever vigilant observation of his surroundings.
