Snow dusted the land as the ghostly yearling moved toward the heart, his once scruffy coat now almost completely replaced by his thick winter pelt. The Yukon native was relishing in the frigid air that engulfed Relic Lore; however, he knew that winter was arriving earlier than expected. This was why the youth was frequently out and about collecting as many herbs as possible for his cache. Today, though, XIX was taking the day off from gathering plants and was going to explore territories that he had not yet visited. The more time he spent with his new packmates the less he thought of his former life in Pitch Pine Trail – it was only when he left pack territory that the memories resurfaced.
The ground crunched beneath his toes, a muted silence surrounding him as he lumbered forward. He wasn’t sure where he was headed; he was merely following wherever his paws took him. XIX was tentative to stray too far away as he was not properly acquainted with the territory that his pack claimed as its home. It was close to the creek that he and Anastasia had made a temporary home for several weeks, and north of where he had found Shade’s wounded body. At the thought of Shade the yearling gave his head a quick shake to remove it – while he missed the former Pitch Pine leader he had left with Anastasia to start fresh. If he kept falling back into his memories he would never move on.
The sound of rushing water attracted his attention, his alabaster coat glistening with snowflakes as they littered his body. His pace quickened without a second thought, pale eyes searching for the source of the sound. Once the trees opened up the ground became slippery, the rocks surrounding the pool of water coated with a thin sheet of ice. A shiver danced down his spine as he gave his coat a quick shake, eyes darting around to ensure that there was nobody else lingering around.

The days had passed by quickly and Anastasia had been biding her time carefully, healing herself up for the ongoing idea that she had been posed with since the beginning. There was a woman in a place that she wanted to be… right beside Maksim. Something in her told her that it was highly possible that there was something there, that she and Mak could work out or something. Unlike the rest of the times, that she had been given leadership by default, she would get it fair and square. No, this time she wanted it. However, she needed her right-hand man to give her the boost if she was going to pull it off at all.

“Lachesis,” she called out wondering where it was he had run off to. He was a flighty creature ever since they had gotten here but after catching a whiff or two every now and then she was reminded of why. Ana understood, he just wanted to be fully prepared for any injury so that he could handle it when the time came. It was justifiable that he wanted to make sure that he was completely ready. “Lach—oh! There you are!” she yelled, jogging closer to him as she released that he had been basking in the glow of the river as it had been blanketed with ice. “What… are you doing?” she asked, wondering why he was lingering so close to it and why he seemed so uneasy.

No matter the circumstance the blue-eyed dove’s presence was always welcomed, and it was as though she knew precisely when company was wanted – often before Lachesis knew himself. Her warm, relaxing scent reached his nostrils on a gust of cool air, causing his pear orbs to flicker momentarily to where her scent originated from. Her soft voice echoed from the trees, reaching for him as he shoved his thoughts away into the dark corners of his mind. Just as he was about to respond to the china doll’s call she appeared, her voice breaking the silence once more. Flashing her a thin smile as he turned to look at her the boy shrugged at her question – he didn’t really have an answer for her as he wasn’t really sure what he was doing.
<b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#222218;">“I’m don’t know,” he chuckled softly as he lowered his hindquarters to the cool ground. <b style="font-family:georgia; font-size:11px; color:#222218;">“Just admiring the view – what are you doing?” As he spoke the yearling patted the ground beside him as an invite for Anastasia to join him. Since the pack had established Cut Rock River as their home XIX had busied himself with collecting herbs and hadn’t been able to spend much time with his closest friend. He was still puzzled as to why she had not been asked to lead alongside Maksim – was she okay with his decision? Although the question weighed heavy on the tip of his tongue Lachesis kept his lips drawn shut as he waited for her response.

It was within Anastasia’s blood now to prove herself to those in her pack and while being the second-hand subordinate was a nice title, she didn’t want to stop there. Not only did she desire the rank, but she also desired to be with Maksim. She desired his company in a more spiritual, loving way than what she was used to with anyone other than XIX. It was something burning deep within her, a feeling that she might potentially… love him. Ana wished to care for Maksim but a love had not budded openly, but she hoped to see it soon.

Her frosty companion patted the seat next to him while asking her what she was up to and she rolled her shoulders, walking towards him to sit. “I was looking for you,” she said idly as she placed her rump down upon the freshly pawed ground. There was always a hidden comfort in his presence like nothing was new and nothing had changed. It was just him and her, no surprises, just comfort. “I am going to challenge Astra for her rank,” she finally admitted and it was obvious that this was her reason she needed her friend. Anastasia wanted Lachesis to support her or to tell her how stupid of an idea that was; however, if it’s the latter she will surely argue with him and disagree. Ana was past the point of whether it was the right of wrong thing to do. All she knew was that it was something she wanted and that she was not going to give up.

He had missed their conversations. The blue-eyed dove was the only wolf that kept the awkward yearling grounded – everything made sense when she was around. After they stumbled into each other’s lives many months ago Lachesis could not imagine where he would be if they had not met. She had taught him the laws of ‘feral’ wolf packs and how ferals were to interact with each other. Although she could have left at any time, Anastasia remained at his side, constantly aiding him and often speaking on his behalf when he was incapable of doing so. Their friendship was remarkable, one that the yearling treasured, and had blossomed quickly after their first encounter.
Allowing his shoulder to rest against hers the boy digested the words that spilled off her tongue, brows narrowing softly at her bold statement. Any other wolf would have been surprised by the dove’s words, but not Lachesis – he had been wondering when she was going to approach him about the Astra situation. XIX was still puzzled by the events of the pack claiming – where had this Astra come from and why had she been given the title of Alpha alongside Maksim? It didn’t make sense.
“Good,” he responded almost immediately as he glanced at the slender female out of the corner of his eye, a crooked smile working itself onto his dark lips. “I don’t trust her; I don’t know who she is or where she came from. I just know she does not belong at the top of the pack – you do.” Anastasia had the experience and the ‘likable’ factor, what did Astra have to offer? “When?”
