A Shade of 'Why?' - Alphaeus - Jul 11, 2014

It was interesting to Alphaeus that hunger might encourage one to participate in highly unproductive and dangerous pastimes. With the scar on his cheekbone fully healed his gut believed it was high time to add a new artistic statement across his young body. It was very obvious that the young bull Alphaeus had chased all afternoon was too much for him to take, even at full health, but he had tried anyway and paid the price. The spirited little bull had stood his ground, and Alphaeus didn't know the first thing about hunting. He was dashed against the forest ground by the bull's sweeping rack in mere moments. Now he was left with a rippled gash on his left hip, and travelling with only a trail of blood for company.

The boy's gait no longer displayed any remnants of the raucous bouncing steps he had brought with him to relic lore. Instead, his feet shuffled somberly through the Ghastly Woods, churning the underbrush feebly but notably as he wandered through the balmy summer night. The scent of pack wolves wafted through the air. Suddenly his senses sharpened, and he pivoted his thin aching body away from the borders.

There was no way he was going to take his chances with a whole group of strange wolves in his current state. On one side a pack was the one thing he could truly use right now, but it was hard to admit that he wouldn't last much longer in the forest on his own. On the other paw, if he showed up on this pack's borders in his current state, there was a greater chance the its leaders would simply kill him.

Tossing his gaze in the direction of the pack smells he let out a irritated snort and settled down on the soft terrain. The pain was too much.

@Alphaeus sorry for the hold up, and I didn't know Alpha was so handsome! hehe

He moved like that of a ghost across the land, in his jaws were a collection of herbs that he'd been scrambling to round up for the past two days. His pelt was a mess, blended at the sides with dirt and bits of grass that clung to his wiry hide with ease though they did not bother him, in fact they pleased him because it meant that he'd been working hard to fulfill his duty to Naira. Finally, he had collected enough herbs to call himself a useful medic. Though he held the title for months, he did not feel official until he had his tools-- the medicine pile he would need to treat and heal the wounds that were bound to effect the health of his family, and summer was the season for injuries. With warm weather brought bravery, a feeling that made young adults and yearlings feel invincible but their skin was weak, and their hide could only endure so much abuse before it bent a will and blood was the result but they need not worry for now, with these tools, he could mend them.

His sense of direction was flawed but he moved with the expertise of a traveler, stopping on occasion to sniff out the scent of his fellow Keepers, one scent in particular disturbed him, that of Sagacity and the faintness of it but he kept those feelings bottled within him. He knew that eventually she would grow more active and serve as the second of the pack, a strong figure to their leadership and Couth was fairly proud of her, she had worked hard to sustain her rank; he on the other hand had been thrown into it. He was proud of his ability to maintain such a high rank, it meant that he had a loyalty and strength that was unknown to him until now, it would be more time yet before he realized what he could do with his abilities.

Stopping a second time to search for the scent of the Keep he found one that was foreign, mixed into it was the stench of blood and it lingered toward the direction of their borders. It had been a while since visitors found their way to the Hollow and he wondered what they desired of them, especially carrying the stench of blood upon them. Entering the scene his mocha colored eyes took in the red figure, critiquing the wound that flash a vibrant crimson on his haunch--he was injured, but why did he think to stop here? "What is your business?" he asked, his voice more confident then usual as he dropped the herbs softly at his feet. He had no interest in healing strangers, despite his pledge to help those in need, and he could tell from this distance that the youth needed immediate assistance, "how did you get that beauty?" he asked with a gesture toward his wound, not making any suggestion that he was a medic and could help.
