A Peaceful Hunt - Tiny - Sep 15, 2014

A gentle breeze tugs at the meadow's slowly browning grasses. They sway lightly, hiding the movements of small creatures within them. Winding among them, dark brown pelt barely visible is the form of a tiny fae. Her triangular face pushes through the long grass, enjoying the warmth that the wall of grass brought from the chill of fall. Her emerald green gaze is fixed forward, as her thick ears flicker listening intently to the scuffling of prey ahead. Sensitive nose twitching wildly, Tiny continues forward her small round paws making no noise at all.
Being new to the pack Tiny still wasn't quite sure of herself. It was a lot to take in and in order to clear her mind she had decided a bit of hunting while she explored might be a good idea. The territory in which the Whisper Cavern's pack lived in seemed huge to the small fae. Even more so considering she had yet to run into another wolf, besides the alpha who'd accepted her. Part of her was nervous about meeting her new pack members. What if they disliked her? Thought she was odd or weak? Her size often got her dismissed by others. How could anything so small be useful? But she had learned long ago that size isn't everything. She'd adapted to her tiny frame and found it had many useful advantages. The other part of Tiny was eager, eager to meet new wolves to hopefully forge bonds. She missed the companionship of her brother Kadar. His gentle humor and protective presence. The brute had always been her safety blanket, her protector. A constant companion she could rely on. But all that had been taken from the fae, abruptly and cruelly. And now she was alone... Not alone anymore, she reminds herself with a sigh.
The wondering of her mind had distracted the fae from her quarry. And the second the sigh; however soft it was left her maw, she automatically regretted it. She freezes in place listening for the rabbit she had scented earlier. If the creature had heard her sigh it might just catch on to her presence. Waiting with baited breath, Tiny flickers her ears in the hope that she would hear scuffling once more.

Titan, for all his defiant words about leaving Whisper Caverns, had in fact stayed around the meadow. He forced himself away form the borders he knew so well. Away form the territory he had grown up in, but somehow couldn't make the jump out of the meadow itself towards the willow forest where he was mean to go.

I'm such a wuss. the dark wolf growled at himself before a large yawn escaped his maw. The young Thorben had slept in the hushed field the previous night watching familiar sights go by. Sights that included the robins who invaded the meadow every morning, the rabbits and hares who flit around the undergrowth eating clover, and the deer who crept out of the forest early morning to eat the dew filled grasses.

Titan wondered how much he was going to miss these sights and the hushed noises of the meadow. However, the shadows of the forests called to him; maybe because he was so used to the darkness of the caverns. Either way, the youth wanted to have something around him. The meadow was too open. He always felt as if the sky would swallow him out here.

For the short time as a pup that he had lived within Cut Rock River's cedar forest he had felt oddly at home traveling through the thick forest. Like the caves and tunnels he was used to, the trees would close in around him making the yearling feel safe and comfortable. Maybe the forest will be nice, over in the willow wolves territory. he wondered quietly whether he would ever find a place he truly felt comfortable in.

The smell of a wolf encroached the dark lads senses. Tipping his head upward to look over the high grass and scent the air, Titan recognized the familiar smell of a Whisper Caverns pack wolf. Not my pack mate anymore... He thought before realizing that he still smelled of the pack. Titan had only left yesterday so Ash, Narime, Yuka, and all of the others cloy scents still perfumed his coat. Should I stay away? or greet them? the question voiced itself within his head as Titan placed his paws beneath him and stood up. Shaking the dew and bits of grasses off his coat, the dark wolf stretched each leg in turn before releasing the tension in his back.

Looking around for the wolf he didn't recognize, Titan's blue orbs narrowed as they flitted between the clumps of grasses, wildflowers, and sedges that filled the area near him.

"Speech here."

Instead of the scuffling noise Tiny had hoped for, Tiny's ears picked up on a different noise. It was a subtle noise of a wolf's pelt shaking, the fur brushing against the long strands of grass. It catches her thick ear's attention and causes her to forget about her prey. Rising up from her hidden spot in the grass, Tiny's emerald eyes roam the meadow for signs of another. Her nose twitching as she lifts it towards the air, then it hit her. The scent of a brute, one who smelled just like the alpha who'd accepted her into Whisper Cavern's ranks. Sitting up on her haunches much like a rabbit might do, Tiny can just barely see over the long meadow grass. Her eyes land on the dark form of the brute she'd smelt. His dark pelt just visible through the grass, his blue orbs standing out against the green of the assorted grasses. Lowering herself back down she hesitates, before slowly slipping among the grasses towards the male.
Her thick ears pin back against her skull as she closes in on the brute. When they stood a few feet apart, she halts again sitting up in order to see over the long strands of grass.
" Uh hello there." She calls out. Her soft voice has a gentle demeanor to it, which didn't always work in her favor. But in this situation it just might. " I'm Tiny new here in Whisper Caverns. May I inquire who you might be?" She says resting her paws back down and peering out at the male through the grass fronds.

Ah, there she is... He surprised himself as his blue gaze settled on a well hidden shape in the grass. Her coat well adapted for hiding in the shadows of the long grasses, whereas his stuck out a little more due to those silver guard hairs. His shining eyes were met with her pretty green ones, a slightly different shade of green from Danica's, as Titan shifted uncomfortably. He hadn't decided if he actually wanted to meet this she wolf yet before spotting her.

Rolling his dark shoulders a bit then giving the she wolf an impish smile, Titan listened politely as she approached and greeting him. He forced his tail to wag and show her that he was friendly despite the meeting being a bit awkward for him.

"Heh, Hi Tiny, I'm Titan. Titan Thorben." He answered her finally deciding that it might be nice to chat with someone. He flashed her a charming smile before turning his gaze to the meadow and viewing the calm scenery. "Are you hunting ma'am?" He asked trying not to take notice of just how small she was compared to him. It was like looking at a big pup and that fact seriously distracted him. He thought about how different it would be to live that short and tried to see the good points of it.

She's probably real good at hunting little things unlike me. He thought quietly while waiting for the pint sized she wolf to answer. The girl seemed really nice and the young lad always liked hanging around nice wolves.

Tiny feels the corners of her maw pull up into a shy smile. The action felt almost foreign to the fae. She hadn't smiled since her brother's death, not once. Why would she, she hadn't had anyone to smile for. But now as her thick ears catch the friendly greeting of the brute before her, it feels good to smile again. Kadar would be happy, she thought remembering how much her brother liked to smile. He always had a broad one on his maw. Shoving her brother from her thoughts Tiny refocuses on the brute before her. Titan Thorben, she repeats the name inside her head while dipping her skull politely, her fluffy tail sweeping the long grasses behind her. " Pleasure to meet you Titan." She says, keeping her brilliant emerald gaze on the male.

At his question she nods a little. " I was." She says glancing back to where she was sure the rabbit was now long gone. " But I'm afraid it was without much luck." She admits with a shrug. She hadn't been very intent upon her hunt, too distracted by her thoughts. Now hunting was the last thing on her mind. She was too curious about her present company to think about chasing rabbits. " How about you?" She inquires, with a tilt of her triangular face.

It felt good to speak with this brute, he seemed friendly something the she-wolf appreciated. She'd met far too many unfriendly faces in her time. She was even surprised to find her heart didn't hammer in her chest like it normally did when she encountered strangers. Perhaps it was how relaxed the brute was that put her at ease. Whatever it was, it gave the fae hope.

Titan watched as the blackish she wolf smiled shyly. Quiet wolves always allowed the dark Thorben to feel more at ease with himself and other wolves around him. He could be more confident in the way he talked and acted. Taking charge of the situation, Titan became his regular outgoing self trying to act cool and professional while speaking well of himself and others. He dipped his head in greeting after seeing her tail swish over the plant life.

Looking in the direction she glanced to and sniffing the air curiously, Titan suddenly realized that Tiny had been hunting a rabbit before his appearance. He felt a little bad about messing up her breakfast and as she asked him about what he was doing the dark wolf shrugged.

"I was napping until a little while ago, but now..." He paused as his stomach rumbled. He definitely wanted to eat. However as he smelled the air full of faint and fresh rabbit and hare scents, Titan couldn't help but shake his head at that idea. Ever since he had grown from puppyhood the youth had never been able to fill his stomach with a single rabbit. As it was the last time he had caught a rabbit he had been a bit shorter and had weighed much less than he did now. Titan was fairly sure he wouldn't be able to go around catching rabbits for himself. Which meant that he would have to find lunch elsewhere despite the meadow being full of the tiny creatures.

"I suppose I'm going to head out and hunt too." He smiled warmly before turning his head to view the landscape. The golden hills coated in grains, flowers, and other plants flowed in the breeze as if the two wolves were caught in a golden river. Titan couldn't smell any other prey, but his eyes did pick out something to their right. The object moved against the current of golden grasses making it more noticeable. If the thing hadn't been moving Titan nor the she wolf probably would have noticed it. Since the young deer's coat blended in so well with the background.

"Now that's something I can hunt." Titan licked his lips then looked back to Tiny. He used his nose to gesture towards the right half of the field. A young deer, an older fawn, was jumping around the edges of the meadow. Occasionally it would stop and look around as if it was curious about a noise, but as far as Titan could see the infant had no mother around. Nor was their a herd near it either.

"You want to help take it down?" Titan asked before locking his gaze on the fawns position. He didn't want to lose it in the grass and never find it again.

After Titan mentioned having been napping not long ago, Tiny's keen ears pick up on the rumble of his belly. And as if it was contagious her own belly began to rumble. A reminder that she had yet to catch any prey. Tiny's thick, well rounded ears perk to catch his next sentence,'I suppose I'm going to head out and hunt too.' She nods some, though secretly she wished he would remain and chat. It was a pleasant change to have company and now it seemed her company might be departing.

But just when she thought the brute might stalk off in search of prey, he speaks to her once more. Curious as to what he spoke of the tiny fae, rocks back up on her haunches and carefully peers in the direction his snout points. Her deep emerald orbs fall upon the form of a frolicking fawn, it seemed completely oblivious to the pair of wolves presence. Tiny's maw waters as the sweet scent of the fawn wafts through the air towards her sensitive nose. It smelled far better than the rabbit she'd been stalking earlier.

Glancing back to Titan she feels a stab of excitement at his offer. Help take down the fawn? It was a rare opportunity for the fae. Being so small she rarely got to chase down game any larger than a rabbit. Now she had the chance to not only test her skills on the fawn, but hunt beside another once more. Again she fights back memories of her brother as she nods her skull.

" It would be my pleasure."
She replies back, keeping her voice low. She returns to all four paws and slips through the grass so she is standing closer to the brute. Up close she feels painfully small beside the dark male, but shoving her misgivings away she glances up at him. " What's the plan?" She asks, deciding that since he had spotted the fawn it was only fair for him to be the one to decide how they took it down.

As we need 15 posts to get extra hunting lp I'll be dragging out the hunt a little. sorry about that.
8 posts need to be actual hunting, so 4 between the each of us. Hunting includes tracking, chasing, then the take down.

post 1/8 for hunting---1/3 for tracking

Titan grinned wide as the she wolf accepted his invitation to hunt. It wasn't his first hunt with other wolves, but it was only his second hunt dealing with deer. Even if it was a fawn Titan's ability would be tested since it was only the two of them going after it. Though the dark wolf was brimming with confidence since their target was much smaller than the deer he and the rest of the cavern wolves had hunted. Titan was sure that they would be able to catch this little creature easily.

If only he knew that this little fawn would be quite fast and agile.

Titan started forward lowering himself in the grass to hide himself from the little deer. Unfortunately his view of the creature was cut off as he did this causing the male to lift his head once more to pin-point the prey's direction.

Crap where'd it go? His mistake caused the youth to lose the animal in the grass. It was still there, or at least he hoped it was. However it's coat color was blending the currently still creature in extremely well with its environment. The wolves would have to use their noses and track the animal to its exact location first.

Remembering the general area that they had last seen the fawn, Titan took note of the wind so that he could travel down wind of the little deer. He carefully moved himself closer keeping to the shadows as much as possible until the wind was blasting him in the face. As he moved into position the scent of fawn became stronger. Strong enough to signal that it was ahead of them, but where exactly was it?

"Speech here."

RE: A Peaceful Hunt - Tiny - Sep 17, 2014

Unlike Titan, Tiny did not have the advantage of being able to see the deer. Her tiny stature made her view completely blocked by grass, and other plant life. She had to rely solely on her sensitive nose and cues from her hunting companion. So as Titan set off after their quarry, she followed suite. The tantalizing scent of deer drawing the fae, like bees on honey.

Even though she knew herself to be hidden, Tiny instinctively crouched, as they stalked forward. Her nose following the fawn's scent, one emerald eye watching Titan's movements. She has to remind herself to stay focused as they crept forward. For her curiosity was sparked, fascinated to see another wolf hunt. Keep focused, she thought as her round paws tread lightly over the ground. He won't appreciate it if you blow this, she thought imagining how embarrassing it would be to let her new acquaintance down.

Nose twitching as they move along, Tiny catches Titan's pause. From the look on his face he had lost the fawn's location among the grass. Unworried Tiny moves forward slowly, glad when Titan does the same. She feels the blast of wind that brings the sweet scent of the fawn directly to the pair. Her maw waters more, and she licks her lips imagining sinking her fangs into the succulent creature. Following the powerful scent of fawn Tiny continues to creep forward, every movement careful and precise. She allows the rest of the world to fade away. No longer hearing the buzz of insects, or the song of birds. Her ears are deaf to anything other than her quarry, and her hunting partner.

Tiny's thick well rounded ears, perk up hoping to catch any noise the fawn might make. Why had she stopped frolicking among the meadow? Was she just nibbling on some grass or had she caught sight of the wolves who stalked her?
