Oak Tree Bend Getting to Know You...

Today was the day. The day he made a genuine attempt to talk to his other pack mates. Of course, he had already held conversations with others, such as Muerda and Arcania- but those were not entirely of his own choice. Today, he was going to make and effort. Today he was going to pull out his best and win a relationship that he initiated on his own. All by himself.

By himself.

Suddenly, Oliver wasn't so sure of this plan. Suddenly, it seemed like a very bad plan. A plan that would not be successful in anyway.

And why is that? Galley prodded.

Because you aren't here. Oliver shot back. He could hear Galley's laughter pealing as the older wolf struggled to keep a straight face.

Ollie, you are four years old and you still need me to hold your paw?

You are the one that can talk to anyone and anything, under the sun. I'm not really interesting, and my small talk is terrible.......

Doesn't mean you can't give it a shot. Who knows, you could actually end up talking to a guy this time.............Come to think of it, why is it that you've only held conversations with females so far?

I'm pretty sure Triell counts. By now, Galley would have grown bored of his brother's excuses, and ambled off to do something else. Focus redirected from his inward thoughts to his surroundings, Oliver found himself near the center of pack territory, somewhere between the den and his own herb store. Shaking fallen leaves and pine off his dark coat, the small man went to rest up against a tree- content to procrastinate on his personal goals a little longer.

Really, what he argued was true- Oliver was not a social body, having little to say if there was not a task at hand or person to be found. In fact, with most of the chores he had to do today done, the small man was at a lost in what to do. And that's when he concocted the hare-brained scheme to actually seek out someone new to talk to. All other encounters had been fortunate accidents- well, in actuality it was some fortunate accidents and one very terrifying one. And it was encounters like that which stopped him from making friends.

He had come to a terrifying conclusion, and that was that Ruiko nor Nayeli were coming back. Their scents were very faint on the borders now, and it crushed Hotei that there was nothing he could do. So, like usual, he became distant in order not to feel the guilt he felt. He kept away from Triell and the rest of the pack, spending most, if not all, of his time on the borders keeping them strong. Today was no different, and the massive black man had been on the borders for a long time when his hunger had finally gotten the best of him. He thought he could stop by one of the caches and have a quick meal before heading back to the borders and make new routes for the remainder of his day. As he reached a pack cache close to the pack den where he and most of his pack mates slept, Hotei's observant gaze caught the figure of a small man. He reached for a piece of deer meat, keeping his eyes on the dark coated male.

Hotei couldn't remember, since he didn't really pay attention to the various new members (all of them came and go), so most of their faces were kind of foggy. As he ate his meal, Hotei flicked his tail idly. For once, the usual stoic man wasn't exuding 'get away from me' vibes. But he also wasn't a shining ray of sunshine, he was just there. Maybe it was time to socialize with someone other than his gray vixen.

There! Oliver turned his head a little too fast for comfort, as he caught the sight of another wolf out of the corner of his eye. He was black, and large- but then again, wasn't everyone huge compared to him? Oliver remembered seeing him at the meeting Triell had held a little while back, but he couldn't remember seeing him past then. Taking a moment to think, Oliver wasn't even so sure he could name the packmate in front of him.

Well now is your chance to fix that. Go up there and speak!

But....he looks busy....

Oliver, if you don't get your butt over there.... The low, annoyed growl Galley would've made spurred the small man into action. It was with great trepidation that he made the first step away from the tree. Approaching the other with a slight wag of a subordinate tail, Oliver casually- or perhaps not so casually- walked up to him with a light smile.

Be friendly, be friendly, be friendly, don't screw this up, be friendly....

Just talk, dammit!

"Hello, there!" Bleh. I sound like I'm made of rainbows. "I just wanted to get a chance to introduce myself. I remember seeing you around before, but I'm new, so, um..." Nooooooooooooooooooo!! "It wouldn't make much sense for us to be in the same pack and not know each other's names, would it? I'm Oliver." I suck so much.....so much....

Buck up. There's been worse failures.
