This could not continue any longer. Lachesis knew it, and he was sure Kjors did as well. The ghost was worried if this challenge continued any longer that one of them would end up far more injured than they already were. With puppies present they could not afford to have one (or both) of their strongest Hearthwood males out of commission. Regardless of how XIX felt about the one eyed dragon, he was a formidable ally and seemed to care deeply about the river pack. That was enough for the healer to allow him to remain a part of the pack.

When his teeth met their mark Lachesis did not hold back. He shoved his body forward, pushing the dark male’s snout into the dirt beneath them in order to force him into submission. This had gone on long enough. A low growl rolled off his tongue as he waited for the dragon to go limp; once he did, Lachesis promptly released the older male. His posture did not falter as he watched Kjors adopt a submissive stance, his tail still arched high above his back. The ghost’s gaze remained fixated on the dragon as he slunk forward to lick his chin before retreating into the forest. He did not stop him — there was nothing to be said. Kjors was off to tend to his wounds and Lachesis needed to do the same; he did not want to waste his energy speaking to the one eyed wolf.

With a satisfied grunt his shoulders relaxed and an exhale of relief rolled off his tongue. His den and the array of herbs he had collected called to him — as much as he wanted to speak with Kisla about what happened, he could not ignore the searing pain in both his leg and cheek. Without further delay, the ghost dove into the trees in search of his den. He hoped his children were busy with Karina and he did not feel like playing twenty-one questions about what had happened just yet.
