Hawthorne Selwyn

Hawthorne would have possibly screamed with laughter had the situation been so serious. Instead she simply gave a content snort, happy with the dark Edge wolf's take on this. Dick-nose. She stored away the name for future reference. It was a pretty good name. Better than that one fancy F word she had heard Reyes use once forever ago.

She patiently waited for an answer, biting her tongue to allow the newly named male to answer. That did mean she was fully ready verbally to lash him should he decided to note play nice again. Granted Hawthorne didn't even once think that perhaps it was Cancer and herself who weren't playing fair because the Edge was always fair.

Skookum Kokanee
Skookum couldn't say the lovely insult he'd just been graced with surprised him at all. It was more or less what he'd expected in return from such a puffed up brat. At least it wasn't anything deeply personal, like insulting his mother or his name or appearance. Dick-nose was just generic enough that it by far wouldn't be the worst thing he'd ever been called.

Sure, Skookum could try and fire back with his own creative insults of some cleverly crafted verbal anatomical chimera. But Skookum had been unwillingly dragged into this game enough times to know that engaging in this nonsense would be a loosing battle. He was already tired of this encounter, long before the hurling insults started.

Skookum deeply sighed, that breath pushing everything out and leaving a very tired old wolf behind. "Well, being heckled by some ill-mannered whelps, apparently."

Cancer
That stifled snort of mirth made it clear that Hawthorne continued to be on his side no matter how juvenile he got. Of course, he didn't much see himself as being childish, but even Cancer new this was quickly dissolving into petty. When they didn't fight back hard enough, it just wasn't much fun, and with a heavy sigh it was made clear that the older wolf didn't have any fire left in him to tussle with the younger generations. A chuckle that was uncharacteristically genuine rolled from betwixt his open jaws, the only celebration of his 'victory.' Alright, that was enough bullying for this encounter. His inner asshole had been sated.

Anyways, Hawthorne had wanted a name. Maybe she didn't still, but until the girl made that clear he supposed he could give it another try for her. Since they were pack mates and all, and since she'd played the part of his sidekick so well.

"I'm Cancer," he offered, before extending something of an olive branch; "Our packs East of here, if you want to avoid it."

Hawthorne Selwyn

Hawthorne could easily note that the fun was lost once the old guy stopped arguing back. Ill-mannered whelps sounded a lot less exciting than being called brats. So she let out a sigh as Cancer introduced himself. 'm Hawthorne. She said with a bit of flat tone. The Edge wolf was only introducing herself because her older packmate did so. She could have manners even if someone needed to pry a bit to find them.

Awkwardly she hovered by her packmate's side, wondering what the older wolf was gonna make of their stiff hospitality. Hopefully the loner would take note of the word of Cancer. Hawthorne wasn't really sure she wanted another run in with someone they had called dick-nose.

Skookum Kokanee
Skookum wasn't exactly sure what it was he said that prompted these hellions to adopt some form of decency. Though Skookum couldn't be entirely sure his leg wasn't getting pulled with a name like Cancer, but the boy said it with enough of a straight face Skookum conceded that it must be sincere. The large male bobbed his head slightly in regards to Cancer's warning. The tawny wolf gave her name as well, with all the enthusiasm of someone who needed manners dragged out of them. Well, it was a start, at least. And at the minimum, Skookum seemed to come out of this encounter with some semblance of dignity, rather than descending into a spiral of name-calling. That wasn't so hard, was it? Maybe they could put this all behind them.

"Back to the original question, the name's Skookum. Just passing through, I wasn't planning on running into anyone here." He said with a cant of his head towards the waterfall.

Cancer
Hawthorne again followed suit, though with a far flatter tone. Clearly, she was no longer amused, and Cancer would've snickered if he hadn't been trying to place nice. Instead, his eyes remained trained on the stranger, curious to see what he would do. If it were him, he would've taken the opening and left without a word further, leaving the two antagonists without answers to their simple questions.

Instead, the man seemed to give them another chance, and Cancer couldn't help but blow it. Truly, he couldn't help it. He fought the laughter down, wolfish cheeks puffing with the air they attempted to keep locked behind them, chest trembling with his effort. Yet by the time Skookum had finished, the yearling burst.

"Wait, waitwaitwait, your name is what? Snookums? Oh my god, no wonder you didn't answer her, that's fuckin' gold!"

His whole body from snout to tail shook with his laughter. There weren't many things the youth cared to share, but this was definitely getting spread like wildfire.

Hawthorne Selwyn

Hawthorne heard the older male's name just find - Skookum - but it seemed that her partner had not. He was having a fit over the misheard name but the girl wasn't correct him. Instead, she simply rolled her bright orange eyes. She gave a small squint as if that might stop the shaking of Cancer and his laughter.

You'll almost always bump into one of us in these woods and falls. She said in an attempt to keep the conversation rolling, wondering if the older male might be able to tell them something useful. You from 'round here? A peppered brow raising hesitantly. Passing through didn't necasarrily mean loner. Maybe he was some kind of scout. She didn't know what the other packs smelled like even if she knew there was some in the area. Perhaps she was overdue for her own scouting trip. Just another thing to talk to Askan about.

But the conversation didn't end up seeming all that worthwhile so she toddled off expecting her wheezing companion to follow whenever he caught his breath.
