Lenae hadn't left the Tarn in a long long time.
She would claim that it was because of Jenny, that she wanted to keep a close eye on her little bundle of joy, but that wasn't quite true. Lenae certainly did her best, but Jenessa was so difficult. She was everything Lenae was not, bold and courageous, always wanting to see what laid beyond the horizon. And yet, Lenae felt as though she'd slammed head first into a dead end. There was nothing she really wanted in life and that terrified her, because everyone always wanted something.
With a sigh, she traipsed along, walking adjacent to the fast flowing river. She had hoped that stretching her legs would clear up some of the fog that addled her mind, but nope. If anything, the empty space just made her thoughts louder, more intrusive. What was she doing? Aside from looking after Jenessa, what was her purpose in life? Would she ever find it, or would she remain lost forever?
These days it certainly felt like it.
Drawing to a stop, Lenae's nails curled into the dirt as she peered down at the water. Wouldn't it just be so easy to- Lenae's gaze darted to the opposite side of the river as a flash of white caught her attention. For a split second she thought she'd gotten all worked up over nothing, but Lenae knew a struggle when she saw it. Someone was drowning, she was convinced of it.
"This way!" Her voice was shrill with rising panic as her heart seized in her chest. She almost wanted to cry out, to shriek in despair.
No no no! She couldn't reach them, she knew that if she tried to clamber over the rocks she too would plummet into the water. Yet she couldn't stand the thought of yet another life being lost before her very eyes. It would ruin her, surely.
"SOMEONE HELP!"It was all she could do.
