Snow. Within hours of its apparition it was no longer a source of childlike wonder for him. What had started off as a magical experience (he'd not paid witness to it much in the past and was at first stricken by excitement by the blanched flakes) had almost immediately become a tiresome, loathsome rendering of a winter storm. It sank into the nooks and crannies of his body - all the little bits and pieces that were not yet rendered numb - and he heaved himself with a shudder that sprayed a lustrous white halo about him in an effort to forsake its chilled grip. Ash was all in all miserable in that moment, wishing for the comforts of a home that did not strike his flanks with arctic wind, and he turned his eyes skyward to watch the gray and listless clouds shift. They spewed more snow, albeit more slowly than before, in what was hardly a pause from the last flurry and he looked down again...squinting sunlit eyes to discern a coupling of trees that'd not already been overwhelmed by the inclement weather.

His sheltering beneath them was a welcome respite. A drizzle of the frozen precipitation occasionally drifted between the cracks among the twisted canopy as each branch creaked and shifted at the rise of whistling mistrals but it was of no concern to him. The pallid yearling sighed and reclined back on his haunches; he huddled near the gnarled bones of exposed roots and settled until his limbs were securely fastened beneath the weight of his torso to gather heat that'd been precariously lost in his brief jaunt. He decided then and there that he was going nowhere fast and decisively tucked himself in the little makeshift bed of roots and earth...determined that he might find himself in better weather if only he'd nap for just a bit.

Narimé Lagina

Narime was patrolling the borders. Her long graceful legs easily pierced through the high snow of her meadow territory. Even with the snow up to her chest Nari pushed through the drifts then loped along the windswept areas that held less snow. Some snowy area's that held a shine to the surface were actually hard enough that a middle sized and lower wolf could walk a top the snow. Nari still fell through these area's but the snow held enough of her weight so that she could run instead of plowing slowly through softer snow.

Her rounds brought her to the farthest border. The breeze which came to her held that of a loners scent. This year's winter was harsh. Worst than most winters that hit the Lore. Nari had an inkling of the severity of it. She knew that her pack was struggling, but she also knew that it had to be doubly hard on loners. If my pack mates are starting to thin I can't imagine what a loner would look like right now. She marked her border thoroughly to warn any other loners of their land. Then the silver hunter crossed the border and headed towards the scent of the loner.

Her nose picked out more things about the loner as she loped/plow through the snow. For example Nari knew that the loner was a healthy young male. There was no scent of sickness anywhere upon his fur. Though she wondered why such a young male was out and about as a loner. Surely a pack would have grabbed such a healthy yearling up even in this harsh winter?

Then again nobody can force him to join a pack he does not wish to reside within. Maybe that's why he's alone. He likes being alone or see's no need to become a pack wolf. She wondered quietly if there were any wolves who actually liked being alone. Especially when most had that instinct of wanting a family for their own.

She made her way towards a small group of trees where the scent seemed to be wafting from. Pausing about five feet away from one of the trees Narime barked once giving the male a warning that she was approaching so that she wouldn't scare the crap out of him if he was resting. The second bark was a greetingish kind of bark. Not a full hello but a friendly one so that he might pinpoint where she was.

Then she circled the trees keeping her tail in a neutral position between the crown of her rear and her silvered hocks. Sparkling snow fell upon her friendly face as she peered downward looking for the wolf she knew was hiding somewhere within the trees.

"Hello? Anyone willing to have some company to chat with and warm you for a moment?" Narime was curious about this loner. She wanted to know where he had come from. The young mother hadn't met any loners near her border for a long time which showed how most had hunkered down in packs or near sheltered areas to keep away form the biting cold.
