"Well, I wouldn't quite say that..." He then tells the child, ready to admit his faults. Bane was never the kind of guy to be prideful or vain. In fact, he held little self-worth and only now, as the child seemed very mezmerised and curious of him, did Bane feel some sort of happiness that perhaps he could be something in this world. At least for him, at least for now whilst he was still a child. "I've met quite a few males larger then me, likely stronger. Your father, for instance. However, being a good fighter is not always about brute force. For instance, my long legs help me greatly. I have quick reflexes and am quite agile, which means I can dodge around a big guy, waiting until they tire before making my own strike." Perhaps it was a bit too much for the child to understand, mostly when it came to words. Likely it would be better to show him what he meant, though Bane had no intention of fighting the pup, nor going out and getting into a fight.
His ears perked suddenly then, pausing just a split second as he side glanced to the gray hued child, who before Bane even realized what happened, had already righted himself. He kept going then, hoping the boy was okay since it seemed he had fallen uhhh... somehow or another. Puppies were clumsy, after all. "Well, they kind of look like us... But much smaller. The coyote is shades of brown and tan, thin and big eared. The foxes are even smaller, mostly reddish with white undersides. I don't know why they are so difficult with us wolves, but I think they like to use their similar structure to use to try to trick us. They will rob you blind, given the chance."
He listened enthusiastically as Bane educated the child about being a wolf with the role of guardian. Kova nodded in understanding. He had play fought with his sister many times and once he had even played with a squirrel. The squirrel had been much faster than him, so Kova could see that Bane knew what he was talking about. Then the child listened readily as the dark wolf told him about coyotes and foxes. "So foxes are tricksters." Kova hisses the word that he had heard his parents sometimes call Noble and himself. At least that's what they used to call them back when they had tried to steal food from the caches a few times. That was before Kova knew that they were actually allowed to eat the food form those places. Before he and Noble knew that little fact they had had a lot of fun daring each other to steal some food without a guard or adult noticing. The gray wolf wondered what a smaller version of himself with red fur might look like. His imagination pictured a thin muzzled wolf with thin long legs and big ears. His nose began to crinkle into a mock snarl as Kova pictured it. "We could hurt them so easy if they are that small! Why would they even try to steal from us?" He asked wondering what would push such a small creature to steal food from a whole pack of wolves. The young Lagina had not known real hunger yet. Whether he would face it this coming winter or not was still up to mother nature herself. Since the child didn't know what starvation was he had no idea of why an animal might steal food from them when they were an obvious threat to its existence. |

Bane smiles to the youth and his naming for the foxes which he spoke of, having explained what they looked like and their coloration. "They are quick, you see. And very stealthy." He did not know if the youth would know the understanding of the word, though thus far it seemed Kova was able to keep up with the conversation as they made their way along through the pack territory, further and further from the borders where they had been and into the heart of their home where the pack den settled, shrouded by brushes and protected by thorny vine. "Well, if no one is around to catch them, it is worth the risk. If they are quick enough they can get in and out without being caught. Winter, mostly, is when you have to watch out most. Food is far more scarce. If they don't at least try to steal some because there is none to hunt, they could starve..." He spoke, explaining to the youth the best he could as to the reasoning for why such a smaller creature would be willing to take the risk against a much more powerful wolf. Bane could only imagine if he had a family to take care of, with no food around and the risk of starving to death, he would be willing to take the risk as well. Clearing his throat, Bane pauses, his vision shifting between the gray scaled youth and the worn out pathway that led to the safety of the pack den. "Now... you should get going." He spoke, offering a small smile.
Kova pads slowly onwards obediently trailing after the black guardian that was keeping watch over him. They were very close to the den now, but Kova hadn't noticed quite yet because he was still rather intent on the information Bane was educating him on. All the foxes and coyotes in the world would never be able to hurt my family. He gazed proudly up at Bane. Nobody could hurt his pack with such awesome subordinates around. At least that was what Kova naively thought. Then all too soon they were at the den. Kova huffed disappointed at the sight of it. He had hoped Bane would continue their walk, or maybe even teach him some of his moves. However the yearling had made it clear that this was the end of their meeting. Hanging his silver head low, Kova faked a happy wag of his tail in farewell to the adult. Then he scuffed his paws while walking into the den. He gazed back over his shoulder once to see what Bane was doing before disappearing into the den to see who else was home. EXIT |

It became all to clear suddenly that the child was far more interested in spending time with him then Bane had originally though. A conversation out of curiosity and out of passing time while Bane lead the child back to the pack den was all the youth had really expected of the even more so youth, but the way the child dragged his paws as he moved towards the pack den, and how he looked back to give him one last glance, made him wonder if Kova actually enjoyed being around him despite the distance in which the chocolate colored male kept himself. Thinking the boy approved of him led Bane to wave him tail in a certain happiness, smiling delicately at the silver boy in a bit of encouragement as he had turned around before shifting off. Maybe another day, or at least when the prince got a bit older, Bane would take him on his travels around the pack border. Perhaps as time passed, Bane would become an official Guardian of the pack and it would be he who was training others like Kanosak was training him now. Even so, maybe Kova would be the exact one he would end up training. Wondering this in silence as he watched the child's retreat, Bane would then turn off and make his way. For the time being, he was in need of more training himself and he was certain that his Leader would not be too far off in over to Bane to find direction.
