Red Fern Forest Smells like trouble

If okay was the best she was going to get then she would take it. She felt no need to push her luck with the earth toned male while he was still so stinky. Maybe on the way back to the falls she'd prod for something more, if she was feeling that lucky.

Her orange gaze followed the motion of his paw. Eyes squinted at the muddy slush for a moment before her head nodded. "Yeah, looks pretty good." Hawthorne rolled her shoulders before her gaze moved back to Askan. "Ya gonna need help covering yourself?" Even if he stunk real bad she was willing to offer a paw to him. It was really the least she could do all things considered.

Askan knew that the plan would work, that there was no better way to get rid of his stink, but uggggh. The longer he looked at the muck the more repulsed he felt. It looked so thick and gloopy, even with a good splash about he knew he'd still have clumps of mud stuck in his coat. Nothing a few grooming sessions couldn't handle but still he was better than this. Rolling in much was far far beneath him.

He side eyed Hawth as her question reached his ears. He knew her question was friendly enough, she was only trying to help but...Ugh, did he need help getting filthy? Yeah, probably.

"Yeah, sure."He grumbled as he waded into the mud.

It wasn't at all deep, barely reached his ankles but he supposed that was a good thing, as the last thing he wanted was to get stuck in a pit of mud. The mud squelched beneath his paws as he carefully lowered himself down till his stomach began to sink into the muck. With all of the grace and flair he could manage he began to roll, toss and turn, coating himself in as much mud as he possibly could.

"Is it working?"He asked, as he flailed about like a man possessed.

She carefully tried to scoop to the mud up onto the stinky Selwyn. Lucky for them this seemed to be helping out a bit and her head quickly nodded when he asked. Hawthorne was muddy too now but she didn't mind so much. Think so, yeah. It certainly isn't as strng under that muck. She admitted honestly while stepping back to make sure he was covered well enough. If he wasn't then surely it would help up till they got him home and could get him a bath.

We should head home before it wears off. If it really bothers ya I'm sure we can find a stream or something on the way home. She said in a kinder voice, not bothering to tease him any further. Seeing him caked in mud like this was enough for him to deal with, Hawthorne knew better than to badger him. Mud isn't a bad look. Just makes ya look a big darker than you did without it. It wasn't like he was ivory and had just ruined his fur. The young girl had seen his clean earth tones, which weren't too far off from that of the earth's soil and tree bark.

Askan's ears flitted back as he clambered to his feet. He felt...sticky and gross and disgusting-but the smell had certainly faded quite a bit. It was tolerable actually, or at least it would have been if he didn't look like a boar who'd just rolled in a bog. Hawthorne didn't seem to think it was all that bad, but she wouldn't now would she? No offence to her, or anything like that, but...Selwyns were above this sort of shit,they were supposed to be regal and all sorts of other hoighty terms. He never put much stock in that sort of thing but acting, looking or smelling like a tramp wasn't benefiting of him at all.

"It's disgusting."Askan reiterated, sounding rather sulky in the process. "But yeah come on...."He turned to leave then paused, his expression grim."Hawth? Don't tell anyone about this. Keep it between you and me, okay?"

With her agreement Askan huffed, satisfied, and turned away, leading the not-so-little pup back in the direction of which they'd both come from.
