Light Snow

Mordacai woke up in his pack den, a sight that had become familiar to him after spending months in Willow Ridge. Now, he hoped to wake up to the very same sight everyday for many years to come. This was his home now and he was doing everything he could to lay down his roots here. He had challenged for third and won and soon he would challenge for second. He had begun pursuing the role of Guardian. He had even worked things out with his sister the night before. A smile stretched across Cai's dark face as he realized that things were going well for him here. All of the darker urges he had faced when he first came here were slowly dissipating, growing quieter and quieter with each new experience.
The swarthy male got to his paws and stretched, pleased with the way his joints cracked as he did so. Then, he trotted out of the den and headed for the caches. Unfortunately, the caches were almost empty and Cai didn't feel right taking the last scraps of food. Guess Ill be hunting today, Cai thought, resigning himself to another day of hunting. Wait. Slowly, Cai remembered how much hunting he had done the day before. A bird, two hares, and a duck. And when he had dropped those off in the caches they had been almost full. No way all of that food could have been consumed over the course of one evening. Something was off. Cai carefully looked around, searching the area for any clues. There. Tracks. Cai trotted over to the tracks that lead to and away from the cache. It took only one quick sniff to figure out that they belonged to a pair of foxes. Well here is an opportunity to prove myself as a Guardian, Cai thought to himself. He quickly decided that it wouldn't hurt to have another wolf accompany him. After all, he had wanted to get to know Renier better and this was the perfect opportunity. Tilting his head back Cai called for the tawny male.
