As she watched the wolf process this most complex of situations, Rue imagined the rusty cogs slowly turning, amusing herself with the notion of his simplistic nature. It wasn't fair, he was probably just having an off-day or something, or maybe he just didn't understand the concept of having fun. That last idea was horrifying. She was already resolved to share the game with him, and now was more determined than ever.

When he replied, it was with more than one word, and she smiled and waved her tail with pride. He was getting better! The discomfort still laced his every fibre as though he were soaked in tree sap, but no problem. He wouldn't be the first wolf she had dragged out of their shell, kicking and screaming. Pondering his most reasonable question with a pouting lip of sincerity, Rue glanced between him and the branch, ignoring how he himself averted his gaze. "I reckon you're heavier than me, maybe you'll have more luck. But this thing is way more secure than I thought it would be... I coulda sworn this tree looked more rotten! Maybe it's still clinging onto life. Heh." Just like she'd been clinging onto the branch! But she didn't share that thought out loud, instead just looking amused for a moment before stepping back so that she fell back onto all fours, tail high and always waving as she looked to the wolf who had so kindly volunteered his services. Hopping to the side, she made room for him to approach and take up the position she had been just occupying, gleefully anticipating his help.

Quin Vance
It wasn't pleasant to have his suspicions confirmed. He'd been hoping to have been able to help in some other manner, one that would not degrade him as thoroughly. Alas, hopes rarely affected reality. And now that he had offered his help, he certainly couldn't escape. Maybe if he quickly fled? Ah, but no... He simply couldn't. She looked absolutely thrilled. It was only right that he'd help her after having acted inconsiderately.

Slowly, Quin approached the tree, eyeing the branch as it was a death sentence. And perhaps it was a death sentence, for his respect towards himself. It felt like an eternity as he moved closer, and when at last he reached the base of the tree, he wished he hadn't. Now he would actually have to try to grab that absolutely awful branch.

He paused, considering it. It wouldn't be too hard to reach the branch, though it would require a slight jump in order to do so. Depending on where he managed to grab the branch, more difficulties could arise. The easiest way to break this branch would probably be to grab it somewhere between the middle and the end. An issue with that might be the branch's odd shape would not lend itself to breaking that way. Also, only a small segment of the branch would be able to be broken off that way. Likely that was not what this wolf wanting, so a different plan of action would have to be concocted. In order to get most of the branch broken off, he would have the grab the branch more towards the base. It would be more challenging to break if he did so, but for his purposes it would have to be sufficient. In any case, his weight should help counteract that. Plan established, Quin jumped and tried to grab the branch between his teeth.

And missed. Quin did not let that stop him, trying once again, and this second time his attempt was a success. At first he just let himself hang off the branch, hoping his added weight would enough. After a few moments, it was clear that it would in fact not be sufficient for the task. More force would have to be applied. Cautiously, he swung his body forward and backward slightly, testing if he could keep his grip while doing so. He moved a bit more, and then stilled again. It seemed he could maintain his grip. Satisfied with this conclusion, he began moving in rapidly different directions, hoping the quick change would speed up the process. It seemed as if it was not having much of an effect. He would have to try something different. Again, Quin started those same random movements. This time however, he gave a sharp movement downwards after those movements. And this time, it worked.

The branch fell of the tree with a rather loud crack, and with it was Quin. A surprised yelp escaped him at the sudden contact with the ground against his back. He had forgotten to take what would happen if he was successful into consideration. He'd been lucky that the branch was relatively low. Carefully he maneuvered himself back onto his paws, checking over himself for injuries as he did so. It appeared any injuries were incredibly minor.

Still holding the branch in his mouth, he made his way to the wolf, dropping it in front of her. And then he blinked uncertainly, glancing away towards the forest. His awkwardness was reestablishing itself now that his planning had been concluded. Uncomfortably, he considered leaving. His task was done. However, it would be best to wait for this wolf's response. He might not have achieved the task he owed her in a sufficient manner, despite her not being aware that he owed her. It was necessary to wait, and so he quietly awaited her response to his success.
