Bastet Akhenaten
Thanks for being so patient guys, didn't mean to hold this up!
She found her complete focus thrown to the wind, her eyes searching frantically for the source of such wonderful and welcoming smells--it wasn't until Lalani spoke that she pulled back to reality. Shaking her head, as the conversation had continued on without her, she caught Jessup's last words and found herself nodding in response by means of trying not to seem rude. In reality, she had forgotten all about her inquiry once the smell of food crossed her nose. She desperately wanted food and with it being so close by, it was hard concentrating on the task at hand when her stomach urged her to go find that source. So instinctively, she did.

Glancing toward Lalani to signal her departure, she nodded at Jessup to assure him that he were in good hands without her there, before her nose fell to the ground in search of the rabbit. She found it quickly, buried beneath snow but still slightly edible as she picked at what remained before moving onto the deer carcass, which held much more food. She ate quickly, feeling the cold meat slide down her throat roughly but filling her belly all the same. It wasn't until the frozen meat showed bone that she began to slow down, a satisfying grunt fell from her mouth as she finished, finally content. She lingered near the deer carcass a moment longer than usual, as if it would replenish itself, and held off in case Jessup thought he were entitled to a piece of the food--she would fight him if need be, and was sure that Lalani would back her up as well. When she was confident that the male would not interfere with her kill, she returned to the meeting, her energy slightly returned though she had much more food she needed to collect. With silence following Jessup's words she found her own voice, and clearing her throat, spoke in response to his words, I believe I have eaten all of the easy meals, as there is hardly anything to chase down anymore. guilt fell over her features but she would not apologize, as she had earned her right as a Cut Rock member to enjoy the food on their lands.

Lalani Callahan
Lalani watched warily as she waited for the male to respond. She didnt trust him at all. There just seemed to be something a little....shifty about his personality, though she couldn't have possibly told what it was. She saw the female move out of the corner of her eye. The weak girl quickly found the rabbit she had been looking for and made quick work of it. She followed her nose and was able to find the larger kill. From the looks of it, there was still quite a bit of meat on the carcass. Her teeth snapped and tore at the carcass, taking as much as she could hold. She finally slowed. Stoping, she stood next to the carcass, as if guarding it, before coming back to the two facing each other.

Lani could see his eyes flash towards the kill. She could practically saw the wheels turning. He seemed annoyed. She knew what he must have been thinking, hell she would have been thinking the same exact thing. Her muscles tensed, ready to show this wolf that he would not be getting anything that he wasn't given, but his demeanor dropped into a feigned submission. He replied with something about looking for an easy meal. And then he missed her. It wasn't a polite miss. It wasn't a humble miss. It was a sarcastic miss coming from the mouth of a pissed off wolf. Then she did something she doubted he'd expect. She laughed. She liked his spirit, she could give him that much. He actually reminded her of herself. "Cut the act, you can look at me square, I won't bite your face off. Just don't try to do the same thing with someone else. " Lani decided that even if she didn't trust this wolf, she liked him.

Turning away from him, she started to walk towards the kill. "Come, it looks like you could use something to eat." She sent a look to the female, letting her no that this kill was not just hers. She wondered if the female would try to fight her for it. It wouldn't be a smart decisision considering her condition. Lani didn't plan on letting the male devour the entire thing anyway. She considered the fact that turning her back to the stranger was probably not the best idea, but shed see how he reacted. Why not test him? Once reaching the kill she turned and narrowed her eyes and flashed him her teeth, before tearing a piece of flesh from the carcass. After she swallowed, she flicked her ears at him, inviting him forward. She was only proving to him her dominance, not banning him from eating. "So what's your name stranger? And how do you expect to survive the winter without a pack?"

Jessup Argis
Bright amber eyes narrowed at the two pack females. They only served as a reminder to him of his unfortunate state as a lone wolf. Nostrils flared especially at the higher ranked female, if there was something he wasn't used to be treated like, it was this.

"Cut the act, you can look at me square, I won't bite your face off. Just don't try to do the same thing with someone else." A deep and guttural snort resounded from his chest and for once he gave in, knowing that he'd been caught. Instantly, he allowed himself to show his true colors. His spine straightened, and his face changed, eyes now filled with arrogant amusement and his coal colored ears flipped forward. His posture went from tense to lax, but movement still flighty as if he was ready for action at any moment. "I'll try my best not to." He said too sweetly, curling his lips up with a smile.

Still, he managed to hold some gratitude, albeit restrained, for her selflessness. Saliva dripped from his lips at the rare sight of a kill, it had been who knows how long since he was given this opportunity. Sounds similar to growling and whining played against the back of his throat, there was no choice for him but to submit to her. He was hungry. Sniffing, he gracelessly padded to the half-frozen carcass and yanked at a long thin jagged piece of leg muscle. He spoke when he chewed, clearing giving no mind to manners, "Jessup. Jessup Argis is the whole thing if you want it." Teeth gnashed against the flesh some more until he swallowed. He didn't really have an answer for the second question. He hadn't yet thought about the possibility of dying alone and they wouldn't come seriously to him without a cause. "Well," The same fake smiled plastered over his features again, he smiled too much, "I hope to depend on the kindness of strangers like yourself." It was such a bullshit answer and he knew it, but what else could he say? Steal and pillage? Fight for scraps against starving and less powerful lone wolves?

Bastet Akhenaten
She was silent a moment, listening to both wolves speak as her comment began to linger in the air--forgotten by the male and higher ranking female who's name she did not know. It would not surprise her if she met Lalani during another encounter, maybe there she could get the woman's name. When Lalani assured Jessup that he were allowed to forgo his posture, dismissing the importance of ranks, she felt her stomach lurch with surprise considering that he was a wolf without a home. She would not test the other woman, never trusting the need to dismiss rank dominance but she was glad that Lalani was a down to earth girl--it was something she would have never guessed about her.

When the meeting moved toward the carcasses in the snow Bastet could help feeling of pang of disbelief boil within her, she didn't want to share her food with a stranger, let alone a stranger that was a highly capable male, but she would question the higher rank wolves motives. Maybe the dark female had a reason for sharing the food with a loner, if only so that she felt no guilt for leaving a wolf without food. She lingered in her spot momentarily, moving toward the duo only when she saw the woman take her first bite, and when Jessup ate away at the carcass a growl formed in the back of her throat though she dared not let it slip. She was in no position, both physique wise and respect to rank, to keep this male was eating food that was obviously for those of Cut Rock River; when he gave his name she thought it a perfect time to give her own. "I'm Bastet" she gave, wanting to sound as friendly and welcoming as possible so that the male had no idea of her dislike for his intruding their meal. Glancing toward Lalani she wondered if the woman would give her own, or if another meeting would ensue before she had the pleasure.

Maksim Baranski
dun dun dun ...

“Just what do you think you’re doing?” A bark broke through the sounds of the forest, the large agouti leader stepping forwards with his hackles bristled and a snarl on his face. With his lip raised to the current party of wolves, Maksim Baranski’s reptilian eyes narrowed on Lalani. Was she an idiot? What on Earth was she playing at? How dare she offer food to some lowly loner when they were in a famine! “Get your mouth off that food, loner,” he commanded, striding between towering cedar trees with a threatening growl. “And you, Callahan.” It was safe to say Maksim was not pleased. He feigned a charge at the two wolves, tail held high and shoulders squared, trying to drive them away from the kill. He shot a look at Ubasti—hopefully she would assist him in this.

“We are in a god damn famine,” he hissed at the lowest of the pack, “and you’re just giving away food?” They’d been struggling to find enough food this winter; the girl must have known that. Loners who didn’t find a pack were fools. They deserved nothing but the cold they struggled through. “I told you, Callahan, you had one chance. I gave you a second chance.” His muzzle remained wrinkled, eyes narrowed and his teeth displayed as if he was ready to lash out at any second. “And this is how you thank me? By giving away food that we need—that your pack needs?” It was sabotage. Pure and simple. How could she have done this? “You,” he spat, staring at the loner, “leave. Now.”

Lalani Callahan
(She is going to refer to some threads that take place before this, though they haven't been completed yet)

Lalani watched as the male tore into the food. She felt tension in her muscles, as the meat went down his throat. He quickly introduced himself. Call ing himself Jessup. As the male continued to eat, Lani layed back her ears and flashed her teeth. "Enough! I have other mouths to feed. Now, if you would come with me-" She froze when she heard his voice. There would be no need to take the loner to her alpha.... because he was here. She was stunned for a second. What the hell was he talking about? Of course she knew what the winter had done to them and their lack of food. She knew better than most. "I know this alpha. I was just about to bring him to you. I know there's not a lot of food to go around. That has been my first bite in days. Everthing I find I give to the pack. I brought those rabbits back didn't I? I didn't even think about eating them, because I knew there were pups that needed them more. I helped discover an island that could have food on it. Everyday I patrol these borders looking for other wolves. I scan the territory looking for something to hunt. I even leave its safety in order to scrounge up something for the others to eat. You never gave me any thing to do Maksim, so I've been doing everything. Not once have I thought of myself, everything has been for the pack." She was shaking, though in rage or fear she couldn't tell.

She was pissed, she knew that much. Hear she is, busting her ass for this pack, trying to prove herself and he's about to throw her out. "Ive forgone any sort of meal I could get from that carcass. I didn't drive Jessup away because he looks strong, capable, I figured Id bring him to you and see if he'd like to stay. I even took care of Bastet, though I wasn't obligated to. She's not technically pack. But I have. I have done nothing without thinking of the pack." Stepping away from the meat, she walked around and ushered Jessup back. Bastet didn't seem to be in any danger, but Lani wouldn't put it past Maksim to target the loner. If it came to it, shed probably have to take the fall in order to get him out of here in one peice.

As the alpha told him to leave she was confused. She understood that he was angry, but it had been her mistake. Here he was telling the wolf to leave, not even enquiring as to why he had been here in the first place. What if he had been searching for an audience with the alpha? Lani looked into the lone wolf's gaze. She didn't even know if he wanted to stay in the first place. She tried to tell him silently not to go too far, just well enough away from the territory. If this went badly, she was going to need a companion. She didn't think she would make it alone.

She waited with her head down, for her alpha to say something. Anything. She didn't want to leave, she had friends here, she had spent time and energy on the wolves of this pack and it had started to grow on her. How was she supposed to leave it all? God, Anna. She wouldn't have a clue as to what happened.

Jessup Argis
(uh oh! alpha's here x( )

"Fine fine." Jessup licked his chops and stepped away obediently from the carcass at the Lalani's orders and tossed his head over at the one named Bastet. He was in a good mood now with some food in his belly and he had these two to thank for it, "Been a pack member long, Bas-" The male jerked his head towards the even larger male that just arrived and a great shudder went through him. Fuck. The alpha. The very angry alpha. Fear that was too strong suddenly ran through his veins like poison and his ears pressed flat against his head and his tail lowered between his legs. The snarky and stubborn Jessup had been reduced to a whelp.

When the the much larger male charged, a shrieking whine came from the loner's chest and he darted off from the kill, what remained of his tail tucked and his eyes wide. Nostrils flared out hot air, white vapor snaking around his head before it dissipated. Jessup made sure to keep his distance from them, suddenly feeling very alone. The alpha frightened him more than anyone else and the fear of loosing more than just fur off his hide made his stomach churn.

Still, he felt waves of sympathy for Lalani. Most of the alpha's anger seemed to be directed at her and even through his fear, which had wiped away most of his "attitude" for the time being, he could see her frustration and anger. Pack wolves, huh. He clung to the trees, not running away but not straying too close until the Alpha spoke to him directly. “Leave. Now.” Amber eyes flashed once at Lalani before he crept back several feet, gave a small undignified whine, and spun around and ran. There was no pride or dignity in him.

Bastet Akhenaten
Her attention snapped toward Lalani when the woman's words demanded that Jessup back away from the kill--there was more to be had for the rest of the pack. When Jessup did as he was told her attention moved back to the male with interest and renewed respect, as he had been wise to take heed of Lalani's words and left the food for those of the pack who rightfully deserved it. No sooner did Jessup's question leave his mouth did she notice the musk of Maksim in the wind, it was as powerful as she remembered the day they met, but something about him lingering near their meeting made her nervous. She couldn't help wondering if speaking to this loner would lessen the trust that the burly male had for her, or the fact that Jessup was eating from the carcass reserved for those of Cut Rock River despite the need to conserve as much food as possible during this unpredictable winter would anger him.

His burly physique stood tall and proud against the backdrop of the Cedar trees covered in snow, and his voice loud and deep, held the rage of thousand bulls charging--he was much more intimidating then she remembered from days ago. He was larger than every one of them in attendance, Jessup included, but she was wise enough not to test his strength and bowed on his arrival immediately, not wanting to disrespect him further. His focus remained on Lalani, whom she learned during the conversation was the lowest in the pack, and chastised her for sharing the meal with the stranger during hard times. When he squared his shoulders and advanced toward them with bared teeth she stood on her spot, too afraid to interfere in case he decided to turn his focus on her instead. Like Lalani, she had little room for error.

No sooner did his words fill the air did the dark female begin to defend her reasoning, stating the many ways that she had defended the pack, and helped those who were in need during such harsh times. She had even helped out Bastet, which was true, and the woman nodded her head in agreement before finally lifting her head, just slightly, to the male before her. She was much too afraid still to talk, but she would not let Lalani get kicked out the pack without assuring Maksim that she was not totally in the wrong. The male finally demanded that Jessup leave the land, it was a rightful request that Bastet did not take the time in defending, as he was a loner without a home. When Jessup was gone from the area she felt her heart lurch in her chest, afraid of what Maksim would do to the dark woman, but she remained still for the males judgment.
