Everyone felt his anger, clearly, as all fell silent when the River leader's voice boomed out. The loner immediately tucked himself away, ears pressed against his skull and tail coiled up between his legs. They let out a high pitched whine at the agouti beast's charge and Lalani was quick to try and defend herself, pleading her case again. He snorted, like a bull ready to lower its horns and charge. She claimed to have taken care of Bastet but all Maksim could wonder was who on Earth that was. His eyes flicked, momentarily, to Ubasti. Was she this “Bastet” character? It mattered little right now. What was more important was that this vagabond who had been allowed to take what was rightfully Cut Rock River's food left. So when Maksim snapped at the lad, it was understandable they were more than willing to escape with a brief, fleeting whine.
As soon as the boy ws gone, the agouti wolf was quick to take his position in front of Lalani. He stood tall, tail held erect and muzzle wrinkled, yet no snarl vibrated in his chest. “Don't think me a forgetful or absent minded fool, Callahan. I know of the food you've brought back,” his words were low yet his gaze was burning fiercly, as magma oozed beneath his skin and within his veins. “But you should know that no wolf is to be offered food on this land unless they are pack.” His jaw was clenched, as Maksim directed his gaze to the woman who had told him her name was Ubasti. “She is pack. No technicality involved.” Immediately his gaze returned to Lalani, becoming harsh and clearly frustrated. There was a pause as he stared her down before his jaws parted and he grabbed her muzzle in a dominating hold. He did it once before and he was more than willing to do it again, remind her of her place: she was the lowest of the pack.
Maksim released the girl's muzzle and snorted in frustration. “If I see you offering some loner food on the borders ever again, Callhan, I won't hesitate to remove you from my home. Now leave—return to the territory.” He focused on Ubasti now, his gaze not as harsh. “You will stay with me. We need to strip down the remaining meat and store it.” That, and he needed to ask about this Ubasti-Bastet situation.
