HALLOWEEN RE: You are plagued with nightmares that have made you jumpy and afraid of the dark.
@Firefly

Bane Aranna
i wanted to take you to paradise.
The nights had not been too kindly to Bane Aranna. For far too long he would stir, haunted by the memories of the past and the forming of his creation, bringing certain night terrors which left him waking up in a panic. It had been days now and counting as the images of his mother's insanity twisted in his mind. As the shadow of a dark wolf with gleaming golden eyes chased him, growling, laughing, and Bane would run - run - but he could never escape. He was a product of rape, created with hatred and evil and born into a life of loneliness, disdain and regret.

Once more, now, as hours had passed since the sun had fallen and as the Wildwood turned to darkness, he stirred, twitching and whining in his sleep. The night grew even darker, not the moon nor a single star in sight and he remained in his sleep, crying dedicating outside the pack's den entrance. In his nightmares, he was running again, but from who? The pounding of his own heart grew louder, breath heavier and soon he came upon a river, blocking his path. He whips around, but no one is there! Looking back to the waters, he leans in to see his reflection... and it is he who is mad. He who wears the wild gaze, echoes the hideous laughter.

Bane Aranna is left to awaken in a scream, crying out to the darkness of the night. A certain panic wells in him as he lays there, panting, fearful of the very night. He did not want to end up being like his crazed parents - his mentally unstable mother or cruel father. He whines lowly, knowing once more another horrible night was upon him.

Firefly of Whitecoats
It had been a long day for Fly. She had spent most of it out exploring the woods again, hoping to find her next great adventure. She was sleeping soundly, dreaming of actually catching one of those pesky two-legged mice. She had just sank her teeth into her prey, a feeling of victory pumping through her veins, when a terrified howl in the distance startled her. She dropped her prey and whipped around, only to find herself jumping to her paws in her den. Dang it, it was just a dream, she thought to herself as she growled in frustration. But what had woken her up so suddenly? Had that been apart of her dream too?

Curious, the lithe, russet hued hunter took a quick stroll through the downs to inspect her other pack mates. Had it been one of them that howled? This night was very dark; no moon or stars to light the way. Instead, Fly relied on her sense of smell to lead her to each of her pack mates. It didn't take her long to find the one responsible for the howling. Fly didn't know his name but she had seen him once before when an intruder her crossed into the Downs. He was bigger than she was but not very large, though she remembered that he was a yearling so that could change. His fur was a deep brown color that matched well with his orange eyes. Fly had not spoken to him before; he had been very quiet that day at the border.

Then Fly noticed that he was moving. Was he still dreaming? Should she wake him? He must be having a nightmare if he was howling like that. But Fly wasn't completely sure that he wasn't already awake. Surely he must have awoken when he screamed. Curious, Fly took a few wary steps towards her pack mate. Scared that if the male was still sleeping and she woke him he would be startled and lash out at her, Fly kept her head and tail down to signal she was not a threat. Then, in her usual high-pitch bell like voice, Fly called out from where she was: "Hey! Excuse me!" She tried to whisper, feeling like it would be rude to start shouting in the middle of the night, but she wanted to make sure she was loud enough that he would hear her even if he was sleeping. The result was an awkward whisper/shout. "Hey are you awake? If not then you should probably wake up!" She anxiously took one more step forward, now only a few tail lengths away from him.

He had not expected anyone to come up upon him, and yet why not? Settled in a sleep outside the mouth of the pack den he could have only assumed one might come with concern to his sudden outbreak, if not to simply tell him to keep his mouth shut if he planned on not waking the children within. Alas, he jumped at the arrival of @Firefly , one of the newest members within the pack. Being a man of quick reflexes, he is on his feet before he even knows it, standing her off on towering limbs. At first, in the darkness, he nearly had mistaken her for @Carys , a small, young and beautiful woman who had been gentle to him, kind and understanding of his shy and distant nature from the moment they had met. She was going to travel with him, just as @Ashton had promised yet alas, she had not, nor had Ashton. Still, Firefly's small build, rusty and brown hues, and even her brown eyes reminded him of Carys. Of course, Firefly lacked the oddly curled tail the other woman held and so after a second he realized who it was and who it was not.

"I-I'm...' He found the words stuttering out, having been caught off guard from his nightmare which had left his shaken and anxious. He was never a man to like being confronted by strangers, specifically outright, yet tried to remain as calm as possible in the face of someone who, although was a stranger, was also his pack-mate. "I'm sorry I woke you." He finally spoke, rather flatly in a manner of formality before seeing it best to turn quickly away and pad off before he made a further fool of himself.

Firefly of Whitecoats

Fly jumped several feet back when the dark wolf quickly got to his feet and spun around to face her. His lithe figure and toned muscles made it easy for him to react and move quickly, but once he squared off to her Fly found him to be larger than she had thought; he was not built thick but he had length in his limbs. Orange eyes alight with scrutiny, @Bane looked her over and for a very brief moment Fly wondered what he was seeing when he looked at her. Not one to place much importance on looks, Fly quickly brushed off that train of thought. Instead, she focused on how shaken he seemed by whatever nightmare he was having. He stuttered out the beginning of a sentence but then stopped. Fly was about to ask him if he was okay, but the dark male quickly adjusted his bearing. His flame-like gaze which had before observed her appearance with intense scrutiny, orange eyes wide with the remnants of fear from his dream, now seemed flat and uninviting. His tone equalled this as he apologized, rather insincerely, for waking her up before turning and padding away.

Indignation quickly bubbled up in the young woman, who always tried her best to be kind to others. She had done nothing wrong. She had merely checked on him because he was causing a ruckus! What had he seen about her that made him so repulsed? Or maybe he was angry with her for waking him, or for finding him in the middle of a nightmare. Fly's mind buzzed, quickly running through every possible way she might have offended him. The girl knew there was only one way to find out for sure what exactly she had done to warrant such behavior. Impulsive and determined, Fly trotted after the young male until she was beside him. It was difficult for her to match his gait, his long legs carried him twice as far as each of her steps did for her. But Fly's turnover was fast and her heart was fortified by resolve. Walking along side him, Fly's brown eyes narrowed and her gaze fixed itself on the dark male. Most of the time Fly's voice sounded light and airy like a very high-pitched bell, but when she became angry or passionate about a subject her soprano tone would take on a richer, more powerful sound, something more like the sounds of bird song. It was in that rich, powerful soprano tone that Fly now addressed Bane: "You know, a thank you would have been nice too. I could have left you alone." Fly tried to catch his gaze, to somehow let him know that she understood just how bad a bad dream could get. She still thought that his behavior was totally out of line and would without a doubt let him know that, but her mission at the moment was simply to make him talk to her. She was not one to be looked over or ignored.

She came after him.

He had a hope that he might have been able to catch the small woman off guard with his sudden awkwardness and need to flee the scene, but there she was, her thin, long legs on a small, compact build hustling to keep at his side as he moved in long, flowing strides with no intention just yet of stopping. It was very obvious that Firefly did not know him at all, for if she had she might have understood his manners and had left him be, in a manner that Nina or Hollow might have when he lived back in Secret Woodlands. Leaving because he wanted a /fresh start/ and not be known was exactly why he was here and yet still he felt bothered by this woman's determination to understand. Confrontation was certainly not his thing but at least her voice was plesant enough, despite it's demands.

"Uh... sure, thanks." It was obviously half-hearted, forced on her pqart by her words. If he wanted to thank her for anything, he would have. Truth of the matter was, her arriving so suddenly to him had alarmed him, setting him further on edge then he already was and how she reminded him of Carys only pained him. Her presence, as ill as it might sound, had not been wanted and so he felt no reason to thank her for anyhing at all. His gaze however, remained ahead, his movements never slowly. Although she had seemingly wished to open him up and break his shell, the pressure was on for Bane and he was certainly growing uncomfortable...

Firefly of Whitecoats

Bane never slowed his pace, but Fly had not really expected him to. She didn't really expect anything because it wasn't in her nature to think things through or consider the future. She always just reacted and continued to react, always being spurred on by the actions of others and how they made her feel and not ever stopping to make calculated decisions. And this time, the girl wondered if perhaps she had made a mistake. Bane thanked her but she knew it was only because she had asked him to and she had a feeling he was hoping that she would leave now that he had done what she had asked. That certainly didn't make her feel good. In fact, it kind of hurt. Had she failed in her attempt to make him talk? It seemed like she had actually accomplished just the opposite and made sure that he would never talk to her. Well, the fiery young woman thought, it isnt going to be that easy. If he wanted her gone he would have to say so and preferably to say why. She would not be made to feel guilty when no charge had been brought against her. Firefly wore her heart on her sleeve, so to speak, and was always flustered about where the hell everyone else kept theirs.

She took a deep breathe, held it for a moment, and then let it go in an exaggerated sigh. Carefully she considered how best to get him to explain what she had done to offend him. Being direct had obviously failed to coax him out, so she decided to try a different approach. "Well, I could be wrong, but" Fly paused and tried her best to make eye contact with the stoic male. "I am getting the feeling that you didn't want company." Her voice was gentler as she said this last part and her brown eyes were searching for some sign or answer. "Sooo, maybe I didnt do you any favors after all." Fly admitted generously. She could see how a stranger barging in on someone having a nightmare could be intrusive, but she still stood by her belief that at the very least she had not done anything wrong. "But you did wake me up, and I certainly cant get back to sleep now. So it only seems fair that you should keep me company now that we are both awake." Fly smiled at the dark wolf and wondered if it wasn't entirely too late to get him to talk to her. Worried that even now she would lose this fight and be left never knowing exactly what she had done to upset him, Fly added in a particularly soft, almost nervous, tone "I'll leave you alone if that's what you really want, but when I have a bad dream the last thing I want is to be left alone with the memories of it."

It became more and more clear as they fragile, first moments between the two pack members arose, that they were very, very, opposite. Firefly acted before she thoughts, throwing her emotions, her ideas and wills out in the open much like her 'heart on her sleeve'. She pushed, demanded and had a stubbornness to her that made Bane want to curl up into himself and cry. He was far the difference - weary and skittish of strangers, having a demanding confrontation. He was a quiet fellow, moving amongst his brethren by communicating using body language rather then words - a language which this woman seemed to be completely ignoring in him, which screamed 'please, back away. your making me nervous and uncomfortable'. He was your typical wall flower. The dark and mysterious kid with the intense gaze and trench coat, who you longed to know but could never get close enough to figure him out, because he did not want to be figured out.

Even as she continued to speak to him, he quivered. Obviously, he could not tell her what the nightmare was about - that he feared he would loose his mind like both his mother and father had. That he feared of what he could do, that he could turn into the murderer and rapist his father was. She mentions then about the fact that he had woken her up from her sleeping, the reasoning he had said 'sorry' to her in the first place, for having disrupted whatever she had been doing in the first place. He stops then, finally, though with a lowered head shifts his eyes away from her direct gaze in obvious sign of submission. He did not bother say he was sorry again, yet shifted rather awkwardly and uncomfortably on his long, willowy limbs. She smiles to him, which he catches from the corner of his gaze, her words softer. What should he say? What could he say? He felt like falling into himself again and although he had done his best to run from his past, wanted nothing more to have @Nina (or hell, even @Inali ) at his side now...

Firefly of Whitecoats

Finally the dark wolf stopped and Fly almost stumbled as she tried to stop next to him. Excitement made her heart start to beat faster, imagining that she had won and finally convinced him to be more friendly. However, the russet lady was woefully disappointed as the dark Guardian averted his eyes, a sign of submission, and seemed to only become even more off put by her smile.

Fly frowned, realizing that this was a battle she was not equipped to fight. She had not wanted his submission and she certainly didnt want to see him withdraw even further into himself. With a short, curt sigh Fly accepted that this man was not going to explain himself. It was becoming obvious that he desperately wanted to be anywhere but here. A mix of anger and frustration whirled around in the pit of the young girl's stomach, but more so than either of those feelings she was succumbing to a brand new feeling, one she had not yet experienced and couldnt exactly identify in the emotional moment she found herself in. This was the sting of rejection. She had grown up with only her mother and her brother as company and aside from the two of them had only come to know the Down wolves who had all welcomed her into the pack with friendly smiles. This man did not have Inali's kindness or Lugh's good mirth or Kova's openness. He was different from anyone she had met and as far as Fly could tell, he did not like her. That was a first for her.

Since she was too naive to understand the hurt that was turning her stomach into knots, the young girl translated it into anger. "Fine." Now her bell voice was flat as his had been in the beginning. "I'm sorry that I disturbed your solitude." Her tone slowly started to take on an edge, though she wished it would stay even. For once, she didn't want her emotions to be out in the open. Now her brown eyes left his and she cast her gaze on the ground; if he didnt want to look at her then fine, she wouldnt look at him either! Jaw clamped tightly shut, Fly wondered if she should just leave but something kept her rooted to the spot. Though she didnt quite realize it, she was still hoping that this could end on friendly terms, that she wouldnt have to walk away tonight burdened with this feeling of rejection. But now she was on the edge and it wouldnt take much to push her off and send her back to her den, hurt and confused.

Short closing!

She was hurt, this much he could tell, but at the same time he did not know what to do it order to fix the situation. Was he supposed to spill his guts to this stranger? What exactly did she wish of him to say? His act of submission to her authoritative stance had only seemed to have put her off further. Still, even as he had stopped (which she had wanted) and decided to hear her out by standing their for her, she only seemed to reject it with her sudden flat and snappy words. As she turned to leave, he did nothing to stop her. If she wanted to go, he wouldn't, without a doubt, stop her from doing so. As brief as their meeting was, it had become more then he could stand already.
