Anastasia Starklen
There was truly no reason for her to fear her pack mates. Anastasia knew a good handful of them, including the Maksim who had recently regained his ownership of the pack she had come back to. That was not her main concern, though. Anastasia was worried that she might not feel as comfortable as she once had simply because she had missed so much. A year had been taken away from her and she didn't want this to be some sort of ad hockery. Cut Rock River was her home and it had been her home even through the times that she had not spent here. What of its members? Karpos, Maksim, Lachesis - she knew them well enough and hoped that they all were as excited to see her as she was to see them; but what of the others? Their scents were potent as she crossed along the pack lands and while she was confident that Maksim invited good members who were accepting and kind, she couldn't always rely on that to keep her steady.

To gaze upon the pack lands that were now hers to tread upon was like a mystery to her. This felt so right to finally be back home where she belonged but on the other paw, it didn't feel the same. With so much of that time having gone and past she simply could not accept nor wrap her head around all the changes that had been made. Both Karpos and Lachesis had begun to explain but there were still so many holes and space sin the timeline that it had become too hard to patch them together.

Spring was well on its way. Mating season would soon be here and the agouti king found himself plagued by a scent that had not been present in the river territory for nigh on a year now. He shook his head, hoping to end the strange torture that nagged at him. Missing for so long, though never presumed dead ... perhaps Anastasia Starklen really had returned? Licking his lips nervously, Maksim scowled for a moment before he turned and began to follow his nose--follow her smell. He simply needed to know, needed to put the demons to rest. And yet ... the more he walked, the stronger it became. The stronger it became, the faster the king moved, 'til finally he was thundering through the forest. Glancing up, the Mackenzie suddenly halted, skidding forward and kicking up pine needles and dirt. Almost toppling forward, his brows furrowed as he struggled to make sense of what he was seeing. Her name bubbled from his throat and dripped from his lips.

"Anastasia?"

Maksim's voice was quiet and surprised, the Mackenzie male cautiously approaching the snow white figure before him. The dove-like woman truly was here then--her scent was no figment of his imagination. Her bounded forward a few steps, more than excited to see his cherished friend alive and (hopefully) well. He stopped himself, his tail swaying behind him. "Gods above, you're here." Another deer-like leap forwards before the male reigned himself in, closing the distance between them with a swift trot. He tapped his nose to her cheek in an affectionate greeting.

Oddly and sickeningly familiar, yet it also felt a little disorientating. All along she had been coming to reach this place for so long and after all that searching, she was here but it still felt surreal. As if she had been chasing a dream that wasn't even meant to be real or ever come to fruition. It was not until she heard the delicate tones of a very familiar baritone voice that she felt her hair curl. They stood on end and relatively shocked, poised for the moment when she had wanted to appear at least somewhat well-kept and beautiful for when she would meet him again. It wasn't until her blue-eyes locked onto his that she felt her tongue move to her stomach in a nervous, anxious pit of what had only ever been admiration and a sincere, unspent crush.

"It's me," she answers. Her voice so light and airy that she swore she had barely broken the air with her sound. Ears pivot forward and she knew only then that her feelings for Maksim still existed. Only thing was... so much time had passed and surely everyone had moved on without her in more than the usual way. Anastasia was glad that no one had risked their lives to find her but somewhere deep down Anastasia was not as selfless as before-- but it was a tiny selfishness--and she wished that she hadn't been gone for long so that she would miss out on the life she would have wanted. "I... I'm so sorry Mak," she feels her own guilt eat up on her for having been foolish enough to get lost in looking for Karpos and Adsila in such bad conditions and she knew that he would likely say that it wasn't her fault but it certainly wouldn't make her feel any less off.

The gentle and affectionate move to her cheek pushed her heart to flutter within her chest. A notion that her emotions were still there and had not gotten lost in the whirlwind of snow, rain, thunder, lightning. That no weather had tampered with and no time had broken its gleaming shine. "Oh my..." she whispers sheepishly, bringing her muzzle down to the ground. All this affection she was receiving after a long time of not having anyone to share with was overwhelming. Though, to be honest, she didn't want it to stop.
