The pads of her paws were no longer soft. They were rough, and calloused from the sharp landscape surrounding the plateau. A lot like her heart. It only seemed to further coat itself in layers if to let nothing out, and nothing in. Would it work? Her siblings had caught her in height, and she still tried to look after them. Still tried to be their big sister, and somewhat of the mother they had lost. She was starting to see how unnecessary her presence was. They knew how to hunt, and probably knew the lands better than herself. She wasn't sure what she was to them any more. They didn't need her protection, her advice. They were now part of a thriving pack. There was a question that unsettled her the most. Would her father need her come spring? Would there be more puppies, but this time a new pack to watch over them. Like the one she had had? The dizzying thought, made her snort. She imagined Phineas wasn't about to let another into his life, and yet Silver Moon had grown, more so with females. A scowl twisted her features. Where was her place?

Softly, pink tongued drew over the small cracks beneath her toes, and she dismissed the thoughts of family. Instead the girl wondered if they would toughen even more or if they would eventually bleed from her wanderings when there was no more snow. Ears dropping against the sides of her head, she didn't feel comfortable being on her haunches, and found her feet. They would have to rest later. Maybe, she wouldn't climb the heights tonight. They guilt she had carried so long as a child was fading, replaced by anger and wants of her own. Of what she did not know.

A light swat of her tail, with dark nose to the wind she inhaled. Hyp was assured she was the only living wolf out here for the time being. She wondered if it was usually like this, and why. Wasn't there anything to be found? Anything of use? Hating the idea of returning without anything for the pack, she began breaking the hard crust of snow, digging fiercely for anything. Pale orange caught her eye, and she pawed at, revealing a nest of dead flowers. Mouth agape, she suddenly glared at the corpses. Then taking some in her teeth she flung them aside, and began digging more furiously, sending them all over the landscape, hating what they reminded her of.

Sorrynotsorry

Ordinarily the young man would be content to remain amongst the sentinel trees that had looked over him since his birth, slipping in and out of sight like a wraith, watching, waiting, searching… But lately waiting had begun to chafe and the oppressiveness of a single location weighed heavily on his shoulders. Taima had long since fled the forest, but whats to say she hadn’t moved on to the Lagoon, or the Marsh, or anywhere else nearby?

Trusting that his brother wouldn’t come looking for him in the next day or so he had set out with the intent of stretching his legs and taking up the search where he had left off, but all pretence quickly melted away when he was finally able to stretch his limbs in the stark snow blanketed openness and run. The cold air whipped through his fur and the snow slowed him down but it was just what he needed.

Feeling rejuvenated he had decided to extend his journey, not terribly long but long enough to reach riddle heights at least. He had long since reduced his speed to a casual wolf trot, head canted to keep better awareness of his surroundings. It wasn’t so odd to bump into other wolves on this side of the mountain it would seem, and he wanted to be ready, to avoid reverting to his old startled persona.

As the sound of frantic scratching came to his ears, brows drew down and he slowed to a walk, allowing his eyes to focus on what his ears had been unable to see. Snow was flying everywhere as the girl dug, and he couldn’t tell from this range if perhaps she had found a lemming colony under the snow or perhaps she was seeking some long ago buried treasure? As he drew closer and his presence was still unnoticed he unleashed a greeting bark, stopping and allowing his pale tail to wave a friendly greeting over his back. He could only hope she was as harmless as he.

Just like that she was broken from her destruction. Suddenly body jerked back, eyes whipping around for the wolf who had barked. Right away she knew it was a male, and there were quite few she cared for of the opposite sex. She wasn't about to let one think he got the best of her. Eyes combed through white, grey, and brown it was his nose, and wagging tail that rapidly gave him away. Bemused, she held back a grimace. Why he appeared friendly enough, the idea he could have gotten so close without her notice ground her nerves, and cut at her pride. As if she was not already in a foul mood.

"What?" She barked back, not pleased in the slightest. In no way feeling she needed to hide the fact. It wouldn't do either of them any good. There were no signs stating these lands belonged to anyone. It shouldn't matter to him what she was doing. Didn't he have something better to do?
Since she did not care if he answered as if he was not there, she began digging again. This time only into the earth where there were no dead flowers. Just the frozen ground she could rip into if she was doing more than wrecking damage to this untouched place.

If she did not find what she sought, she padded away, and  over to a large stretch of pure mud. Why she did not have her back to the stranger, she still did not over him a direct glance. No, she scouted the ground finding a fresh set of rabbit tracks. With him here she wasn't sure if she should try to pursue game. She had no mind to share, nor let someone else take what she needed to take bring home.
