Hecate Liar
@Sven

Now, Hecate (like many other wolves) was naturally gifted with wanderlust- but this was absurd. What would a toddler be doing alone at 6:34 in the morning. He was completely unaware of her and his surroundings. Just pawing forward on little stubby white paws. She wasn't sure if she should say anything- her jaw parted in awe. She knew Piety had been missing for a while, but the real red flag was when she heard her name being screeched just the other night. Where had the woman gone? She asked herself, letting the echo rattle in her brain. She knew the hardships of missing a parent, both even. He was suffering and trying to be a "mother figure" would only make it worse.

"Boy," She said sternly, eyeing his ruffled and dirty fur. "You know, you shouldn-" Hecate intended on getting his mind off of his mother, a scary story would do just the trick. "Ah, never mind. Something like this could scare a young lad like yourself." Oh how she hoped he would take the bait, anything really to make him stop thinking. Where was Skoll? Being a single parent was difficult, but christ, the boy was prone to die at a rate like this!

Sven Archer
Sven had risen with his father, and as the weary man left to tend to his work, the small boy too had set out to spend his early day as any other was pursued nowadays. He wasn't entirely sure what Skoll's 'work' entailed, but he trusted that it was important as it usually kept the man away for the day and he always came back exceptionally tired. Far more tired than Sven had ever seen Piety, and anyways, father was still here. Each passing day it could be seen, even if Sven didn't fully understand it, that his father was working his hardest to keep everything together, and the boy dearly loved him for it.

That was a good portion of way he began to crave his attention more and more, though he refused to ask @Skoll for it. Instead, he basked in the rare moments given to him and when alone, wished largely for his father to get just one break so that he could come play or teach him something new (father knew so many things). Part of him still wished for Piety, but the expectation was absent. Skoll's presence was an actual possibility, and with each passing day, Piety's more and more became not.

He was thinking now about learning to hunt, remembering the many small creatures brought to them and how he had boxed them to death with his playing. It wasn't the same as hunting, he understood, for he'd seen similar beasties before and been unable to capture them as father had, and things weren't quite as worth doing if it couldn't be done as Skoll did them. Still, the pale boy was constantly on the look out, trying here and there without any success. Ears and eyes attuned to the earth for the pitter patter of tinier feet, he did not at all notice the presence creeping up on him until Hecate's rough voice snapped its way into his ears.

Whirling around, shock was only allowed presence upon his dial for a split second before he covered it all up with a scowl. She had startled him, and that only drew the match closer to the deep reservoir of gasoline within his chest. His over sized ears pressed forward to catch what more she was saying, and it very much sounded as though this stranger were about to scold him. Worse yet, her pale body only served to remind him of his mother, and a growl began to leak from betwixt his gritted teeth as he struggled to remember his manners.

Then, Hecate recovered oh so gracefully.

"Scared?" he repeated, losing a large dosage of the menace he'd held in his countenance just moments before. "Archer's don't get scared, 'specially me!"

The little man was filled with anger, absolutely teeming with fury. In his little steel eyes, she could see something break. It must have been hard seeing someone that resembled his mother. Hecate looked quite a bit like Piety with the exception of her venomous eyes and less... angelic purpose. Hecate was far from maternal, she could only help him through some sort of friendship.

The little man's response lifted her lips into a curl. He was right, the Archers weren't afraid of anything. Hecate, trying to really sell the young lad, sighed painfully. "You are brave... I guess I could tell you." Her voice dropping to a whisper, craning her muzzle over to his small ears. "There's things in these woods that will make your skin crawl... especially The Shaman." She retreated, glancing over her shoulder as if the imaginary wolf was watching. "You see, The Shaman only hunts in the morning... around this time. He has enchantments that would turn a grown man's stomach." Hecate was giddy with excitement- telling stories was such great fun. It was always her favorite pass time as a child, and hopefully his too. "But beware boy, The Shaman is always lurking for an easy dinner." The lass clicked her teeth together a few inches from his muzzle, sporting a playful smile. He was small enough to be picked up, but still, with an anger like his- it would be difficult to escape without any scrapes. "Pleased to meet you brave boy, I'm Hecate"

SVEN ARCHER
& the night is closing in

As her tale began, the boy was clearly skeptical, and such reflection was written upon his smaller face. Yet still his ears pressed forward and his eyes did not waver from her animated face as she recounted this legend. Not only did it interest him, this thing that was supposed to be oh so terrifying, but he was reminded bittersweetly of the daily routine in which his mother would draw him close, cradling him within her arms as she whispered fanciful stories to him while the sun set. He could not know the word shaman, but enchantments struck the chord of an old memory. Sven struggled to pull the recollection up to the surface of his mind and brush off the dust, but soon he was able to make the connection. Mother had warned him of witchcraft, and unholy thing that made the wolf in the sky extremely unhappy.

A scowl formed upon his face and his chest puffed out, indignant to know that such a sinful thing slithered around these parts. Yet then she warned him that this Shaman sought to make a meal of wolves, and the horrific bridge between this story and the reality that he unfortunately knew was laid in concrete as Hecate's snapping jaws made him flinch. She continued on, suddenly smiling, but he couldn't make out exactly what she said. A ringing had begun in his ears, steadily growing in volume until he could hear nothing else, not even the rapid beating of his heart within his own bat-like ears. His entire frame began to feel fuzzy, disconnected as though he were about to simply evaporate like dew in to mist in to nothing.

A burning sensation worked its way up his spine to the base of his skull, and when he could take it no more, a twisted, choked and yelping bark fled his jaws to resound loudly throughout the air.

"He eats wolves?!" Sven cried, limbs splaying as his pale eyes looked frantically about himself before locking onto Hecate's poison green optics once more. "And they let him come here? Why don't they kill him? What if he hunted her? What if he killed my mother?!" The child screamed, unable to escape this sudden realization. It cloaked itself around him as though already proven to be truth, and his entire body shook uncontrollably. It was not fear for himself, in fact he dared this Shaman to come find him on any hazy morning. If he had taken his mother, he would tear him apart.

He was hooked, eyes widening as she went on. She was having a splendid time talking to this young ma- wait, no. No stop it. Her mind thought, watching as the child snapped to conclusions. Her smile began to fade, turning into a more frustrated stare. "What the fuck?" She said quietly as the boy yelled. "No, he don't eat grown wolves. He eats ki- never mind that, jesus christ." She scoffed, trying to bring him back to the surface of reality. She felt a lurch in her stomach, a reminding feeling. It was the familiar feeling of being homesick and being home. "Listen, I'm gonna drop the Shaman thing and I'm going to be real w'you for a second. Can you handle that?" She asked honestly. She wanted to explain something that apparently nobody had explained before to him. He seemed capable, so with out giving him a chance to reply, she continued. "Sven, I know ye want yer mum. And I sure as hell know sh'wants you. But lad- I been through similar things and you need to focus on yerself rather than other things." She sighed heavily, he might not want her help but it would be a crime not to offer it. "If you need to talk to someone or get further information about yer mum- I'm always 'round an I'm quieter than y'think." The woman winked and gave him a sneaky smile.

No, Hecate firmly countered, and Sven's whole being froze as he looked up to her with pale grey eyes rimmed in white, hanging on every word that fell from her mouth. He didn't eat adults, so he didn't eat Piety? His very being begged for confirmation but she cut herself short, exasperation dripping from her fangs. At first, the boy reacted with confusion, before he came to realize what had happened. She had lied to him. He did not know stories to be false, as Piety's tales had always be true (at least so he'd been told by his mother). Hecate had done nothing but given him the scare of his life for no good reason. An ugly scowl twisted his poltergeist features as she pressed on, daring to ask if he could 'handle' what she next had to say. Truth be told, he didn't want to hear anything more from the woman's mouth. Already his cheeks burned with embarrassment that he had allowed her to fool him.

"You don't know what I'm going through!" he shouted back at her, unable at this moment to be thankful for the help she was offering him. "No one understands! No one cares!"

He was shaking again, with a different kind of rage, the one that had been lurking and building beneath his skin since his guardian angel had left him behind.

"If the whole pack was looking for her, she would be back by now... but they won't even lift a paw..."

FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT FIGHT

She had what she wanted, he was angry now. His voice rang in her ears, a affirmative smile adorned her lips. She had explicitly exposed him, pulled away his sheet of all knowing. He needed to yell and scream, kick and fight. He was all pent up and she wanted him to release some pressure. "Yes, yes yes!" She prompted, a deep crease forming between her brows. The assuring woman he was looking at before was all but there, she was now telling him to get angry. A loud laugh came from her mouth as he told her nobody cares. She got up abruptly, turning in a wide circle; this allowed him the space to explode. "Get angry, scream, yell goddammit!" She shouted, her voice overlapping his next string of words. He hit a sad note, this new emotion getting her all riled up- heart racing in her chest. She nodded fiercely, eyes wild with excitement. "NO! YER RIGHT THEY DIDN'T DID THEY?" She asked him outright, cocking her head to the side and taking a step forward. "They didn't do SHIT, di'they Sven?" Hecate raised her brows, shaking her head side to side. The woman pursed her lips and mouthed a sarcastic 'no?'. "D'you know why they wouldn't do anything?" She cut him off before saying another word. "Because, Sven, th'world is filled wi' fuckin' horrible people. And you?!" She yelled at him and made another round, head tossed up in bewilderment. "Yer stuck. Right in th' middle. And you ain't got shit smarts about how t' cope." The words coming from her poison laced lips were shallow and lifeless. Hecate was practically forcing him to fight back, to get in her face and retort. But, there was no retort to be made. She hoped him to be smart enough to agree, because he wouldn't last a day without accepting this.

Hecate gave a rough a hoarse sigh, backing away and bracing herself for a threat yet to be made. "Fight me. Come on, tell me how angry you are about your mum." The woman said, softly; the words allowed for only him.

SVEN ARCHER
& the night is closing in

His anger seemed to excite her, and this only served to fuel his rage. Was this what she wanted? To poke fun at him and his misery, to turn his pitiful circumstances into a joke for her own amusement? His hackles raised and his lips parted to display his fangs, outraged by her audacity. Perhaps this was how they all were, merely pretending not to find his situation uproariously hilarious. Perhaps it was truly only Skoll and Morganna who cared at all.

And then she instructed him to do as he already was, he began to grow confused. She was... doing it on purpose? What was she getting at, what was the point of this? The child couldn't know, and it only frustrated him further. Everything, from the looks of her to the words she spat, caused him immense stress, flaring his temper and skyrocketing his blood pressure. Then she was stepping close to him, and repeated what he knew, asking him for confirmation that she clearly didn't really want, and he didn't know what to do or what to make of things, but wanted more and more to make her shut up.

Then she capped it all off with an insult, sneered so matter-of-factly, and he could take it no more. He didn't need further goading, even as she supplied it, to let out a rageful scream and launch himself at her. It didn't matter anymore what was wrong or right. What mattered was getting her to stop, to closing her goddamned mouth, to see regret pass through her poisonous eyes.

She had pressed his buttons in the right sequence, the little ball of fur hurling at her with a sharp yell. Now, this was unfortunate. She had wished the child would have come up with a creative way to try and fool her. This was just Sven trying to swing his weight around, she wanted action; finesse. A delighted smirk adorned her as the young woman merely braced herself on impact, the collision staggering her backwards. Her back legs pushed onward, scooting the small body to back pedal while he gave a few measly bites. Hecate reached down with her muzzle and gave him a powerful nudge away; taking it upon herself to prance elsewhere around him. She was careful ti be light on her feet, thanking god for her swift feet.

"Don't scream. Yer givin' me a warnin' when ye do tha'." She tipped him off, bracing for the next impact. She expected no noise from this attack, they would rely on very little chit chat besides her words of advice- take them or not. In fact, Hecate didn't expect her words to get through to Sven at first. But eventually, he would understand the importance of what she was doing.
