This was absolutely the winter from hell, Oula was convinced. For a short week they were teased by enough sun and warmth to start chipping away at the deep drifts of snow, a few intrepid blossoms daring to press through the heavy white layer and peek their petaled heads out into the daylight. But in this case, the early bird did not get the worm, and Relic Lore was again thrust into the depths of winter, killing the blooms where they stood. Oula's nose wrinkled in distaste as large flakes filtered down through the needled canopy, dusting her pale creamy coat in a layer of white.
Still, neither the foul weather nor her widening sides would distract her from her tasks. Fortunately she still had a healthy appetite and minimal nausea, though terrible cramping did cause her to slow every now and then, pausing to catch her breath when she was sure nobody was watching. Occasionally she worried that she might be blessed with another lovely birth experience like last years, or worse, but tried not to linger on those thoughts for too long. She tried to keep herself positive, looking forward to the little lives she would soon bring into the world.
Oula made her way towards the borders, weaving between the cedar trees as she balanced her large white paws over the hard crust of the snow. She occasionally stopped to proudly lift her leg to mark her trees in the most subtle act of defiance of having her rank of second stripped from her by an overgrown yearling. Growling under her breath, she made her way to another tree, roughly raking her shoulder against its rough, red bark and lingering to scratch her rotund midsection against the sturdy trunk.
