RE: The nearby plants sparkle with autumn frost.

What had begun as a simple errand in an effort to take some weight off the shoulders of Emrys, had turned into something much more. Jynx found herself further south than she had anticipated. She had only intended to be away for a maximum of twenty four hours, after making sure someone had an eye on the children, and informing her mate of her brief absence. It would feel good, she knew, to get out and stretch her legs away from the Notch. She had been fretting too much as of late. With being a mother and overseeing a dwindling pack at the same time, was a perfect recipe for stress. She had needed this breather, which was thus far, doing her good. The recent arrival of two new wolves, Blackmoore and Sharan, was a definite boost. But, experience had taught her to be skeptical, to be less trusting than before. She would see if these two proved her wrong, or if history repeated itself. With her spirits somewhat heightened, she knew she may soon be ready to take her place back at Emrys' side.

She felt badly for him. For placing the burden of leadership solely on his shoulders. He had just as much to contend with as she, if not more. The least she could do was help him out in any way she could, even if it meant a trip in search of much needed herbs. Autumn would be over soon, and the medical den would need to be well stocked for the winter, in case of an emergency. Jynx was making use of the little time they had left, in an effort to find and gather what plants were still viable, yet to fall victim to the frost and plummeting temperatures.

It was late, well into the darkest hours of the night, when the tranquil rush of water reached her ears long before she saw the falls. It was this sound that reminded her that she hadn't meant to come this far south. She must've breezed through the miles of forest behind her faster than she thought, finding slim pickings further north. Much to her dismay, as she pressed on, the leaves and foliage around her were covered in an icy layer of frost, suspended in time. Although the sight was beautiful, as the frozen plants glimmered like diamonds, she would have no use for them here. What did capture her attention after a few more paces, was the falls which fed into the pool below. Slowly, she came to a stop, as if captured in the same icy grip as the foliage itself. Yellow eyes slowly filled with recognition. It had been so long...possibly even years, since she had visited this very spot. The same spot in which her life at Relic Lore had begun. She tipped her head down slightly, shutting her eyes gently and recalled the past...of who she had been then, and who she was now. Oh, a trip down memory lane was not the sort of venture she had expected today.

Though no one could yet tell him of a stone river he wasn't heartbroken. He believed he just hadn't come across the right wolf. So he continued stretching his map of the region. Remaining close to the mountain range where he felt at ease. Often he paused, casting his nose to the sky, checking. Always checking. He didn't need to miss any more meals. Being caught off guard wasn't a favorite of his. There were no tells of his kind, and with a huff he changed his pace.

By evening he played hide and seek with a pika. Going quite the number of rounds. But, it had home advantage, and managed to keep its life. The charcoal loner merely chuckled, and let it be. There was a coldness descending with the drifting of the sun. Why he was nagged with the thought to hole up somewhere and rest, he thought better of it. He could curl up, and try to sleep, but that would be as far as he got.

Eventually, the inky blanket full of tiny, twinkling lights descended upon him. For a long time it seemed to be the only thing to keep him company. Not that he minded. He would gladly let it. It was easier to blend in with the glow of moon, and stars. With it came a deeper coldness. He didn't need a reminder what was to come. Instead he spared a moment to gaze upon the heavens. Thinking maybe it was time to stop. The sound of water pulled him back. Or...could it be? Sometimes when the sun disappeared he could hear that sound on the stone river, and see even brighter lights. Lit with hunger his limbs shifted more rapidly as he sorted through the undergrowth, and watching trees.

White ribbons of steam loomed from his open mouth. The cold honing in on the heat. The sudden roughness in his throat made him contemplate what he really wanted to find. There was a reason expectations weren't gonna matter.

The white falls loomed to his right, muffling his haggard breath. Half disappointed, he dropped to a walk. It was not the sparkling scenery that caught his eye. It was the russet that did not belong to the foliage. It was wrapped around a fit figure he took a pausing second to admire. His quarry didn't twitch an ear, nor turnabout...yet. With slow, exaggerated movement he crept till he could see her eyes were shut from him. He wanted to stand right in front of her nose, but instead he froze a good couple lengths from her left flank. "You're too pretty to be a windigo," he murmured just loud enough. Blue eyes ready to capture her stare.

A voice split the peaceful silence. The voice of another wolf...a male, directed at her. Lifting and turning her head to the left, Jynx opened her eyes again, allowing stark yellow to meet cold blue. Her features remained neutral in the seconds that followed, but the slow swish of her tail gave away her good mood. What had he meant by his statement? Surely it was a compliment. Dark lips parted to form the words that followed. "I can't exactly say I have heard of a...windigo before, but thank you." A single brow rose thereafter, just to ensure her train of thought was correct.

Her gaze landed on him fully now, a wolf nearly as dark as the night that enveloped the falls. He looked to be in good health, and his appearance didn't remind her of anyone she had seen before. The glaze of ice on the plants sparkled dimly as she turned to walk closer to the edge of the pool. The thin layer of icy crust crunched under her paws, a slight dusting stirred in their wake. From the pure, clean water, she took a slow drink, keeping one yellow eye on the lone male. She didn't think he was hostile, as he had yet to present himself as a threat. But even the friendliest of faces could hide the darkest of intentions. With her thirst sated, she turned to face him directly, seating herself. "What brings you out at this hour, stranger? And to here, of all places?" She queried with a tilt of her head.
