Aegir was many things but he certainly wasn't patient. In his defence though, the same could be said for most kids his age. He'd soon grow out of it, probably? Possibly. When he-rather belatedly-realised his Ma had found something of interest he whirled around and raced to the lip of cave to see what it was. What had she found? Let him see, let him see!
Aegir expected her to present it to him, like a gift. But when she did not a mischievous idea came to mind, as a sneaky smirk tugged at his lips. He could steal it from her, like a dragon taking a treasure and adding it to his horde.
But that plan had been foiled before he could even think of putting it into motion. He read his Ma loud and clear, he was not allowed to take it until she'd checked it out herself. How boring! Aegir sighed dramatically and thumped his paws on the caverns floor for emphasis. He didn't want to wait, he wanted to see what she'd found and he wanted it right now!
In no time at all-but not soon enough in Aegir's opinion- Ma nudged the little thing towards him. Huh? What was it? Leaning in close he prodded it with his nose and took a sniff or two. A stone? What was so interesting about that? Boring! Not something he wanted to add to his imaginary collection, only the best would do for this dragon!
He just so happened to step to the side, his shoulder brushing against his Ma's ribs, when he saw the glint of light. The shine that had caught his Ma's attention in the first place. Oohhhh, pretty!
Sticking out his tongue, Aegir gave the stone a lick and then another. Huh, it didn't taste any different either. So what made it all bright and shiny like that? And why did it only work when he looked at it from a certain direction? Very curious indeed, a mystery to be solved if he'd ever seen any.
"Les' go show Da! He'll know what it is!"
After all, he knew everything.
