Cancer
open for anyone to come ruin cancer's day

Things were pretty alright here. No one really bothered him. They were a pack, often communing together, but he still could feel like he had his space even when they were altogether. They didn't have those, expectant looks for him or try to prod him into conversation. They didn't care about his opinion on dumb shit like the day's weather or whether or not he thought the herds would stay the winter. So long as he worked and was around, he was allowed to just be.

This would be a much easier winter than last to get through.

A crack snapped through the air, echoing softly off of the snow-covered trees. He'd finally worked the bone in half, and now happily accessed the marrow within. His tail was even thumping against the snow merrily, a rare show for the dour wolf. He'd caught his own meal that morning, and was now taking his time in enjoying it and cleaning every last morsel off of the bones. If he had it his way, there would be nothing left for the decomposers.

Hopefully, things stayed like this. Just him, his kill, and the silence of solitude.

Sachiel Leigh Selwyn

The Edgy crew had acquired a new member—one that the boy had caught glimpses of but had never formally introduced himself to. Sachiel kept himself busy with patrols, either stalking the night with Pumpkin Eyes, or choosing to take up early morning patrols for he liked the crisp air and the soft glow of the rising sun. Which meant whenever he visited the communal den to bunker down for a few hours of sleep most, if not all, of his packmates had already departed for the day.

A sharp crack captured his attention, his nose twitching as he redirected his path, his dark brows pinching together. Shades of caramel swept through his vision, uncertainty clinging to his chest as he meandered toward the sound. As he drew closer the familiar scent of the newcomer reached his nose, causing his hackles to lower as he approached the blue-eyed yearling. He maintained a respectable distance between himself and the older wolf, as he did not want the newest Edge wolf to think he wanted to steal his bone. Sachiel had no intention of doing so. He was just curious as to who this wolf was.

With a single cocked brow he observed the dark wolf, waves of deep navy flooding off the male’s dark body. But there was still shades of umber, for he did not know how this wolf would react to his presence. Uh, he started lamely, his head tipping to the side, hi.

He was off to a great start.

Cancer
Well, of course it wouldn't last. Cancer was so enthralled in picking his kill clean that he hadn't picked up on the boy's approach until that hesitant greeting slipped off his tongue to assault the black wolf's ears. They flicked back in annoyance, his teeth still working the bone as his blue eyes picked up to look his pack mate over. One of the kids. There were two of them, weren't there? Not that it mattered...

Cancer grunted in acknowledgment, then promptly picked up his hindquarters and shuffled them around, turning his back to Sachiel without ceasing his work. His rump plopped back down with a low thud and that was all that would be heard from the crotchety teen.

Huh. This one certainly filled the grumpy stereotype, which meant he would fit in nicely in Shallows Edge, but they were packmates. Grumpiness aside, they were supposed to socialize or whatever. Be friendly toward each other. He understood that the dark teenager had a bone placed between his paws, but that didn’t mean he couldn’t have at least greeted Sachiel properly. He exhaled sharply through his teeth, his toes curling into the cold ground as he remained rooted to the spot, the dark tip of his tail flicking in annoyance.

Super nice t’meet you, he cooed, ignoring the older male’s disinterest as a crooked grin found its way onto Sachiel’s maw. I’d offer you a snack but it looks like you already found one. Water, perhaps? Shelter? A tour maybe? Being annoying wasn’t usually a specialty of the Leigh’s, but today it was.

Cancer
Cancer had really hoped that the kid would've picked up on what he was laying down. Of course, he couldn't be that lucky. In fact, his ears lifted to catch the other wolf damned determined to get on his nerves. Every syllable grated against his hearing and a scowl deepened over his lips. He'd been on such a good streak here, too. It had been like. Days gone without someone thoroughly pissing him off.

He stood, and angled his body to better face the youth without turning around completely. His blue eyes made his annoyance clear, which he was sure the teen would eat up but he didn't feel like having a pissing match right now. This time, anyways.

"No, but you can help yourself to a clue. I'm busy, go titter at someone who cares."

A reaction. Ah-ha! Finally! The boy had gotten precisely what he was looking for and, oooh boy, was it sweet! A wide grin stretched lazily across his agouti features, and while the blue-eyed wolf before him screamed crimson, the bold Leigh did not retreat just yet. Tut, tut, he clucked in response, his mismatched eyes rolling in his skull as he put all his weight on his right foot. Dono how Askan let you in with that attitude, he added, his nose angled to the side. Not a good way t’make friends. Especially with one of Askan’s favourites. Despite his age Sachiel liked to think of himself as a close confidant to the grumpy Edge Lord. More so when his partner in crime, Pumpkin Eyes, was not around.

Cancer
Of course that wouldn't just be it. The boy couldn't take his small victory and go, he had to run with it. Man did Cancer hate when he had to deal with a mirror reflection like that. He retained his narrow-eyed expression as the boy went on to poke at him, and considered just picking up his bone and leaving without another word. This had been his spot though, and he was pretty sure the pup would just follow after him anyways.

"Yeah, I noticed you're all sweet as apples here," he replied sarcastically. After having gotten to know his alpha, Cancer had grown pretty sure that it was his rough edges that had gotten him into the pack.

"But here's a thought. Maybe just 'cus I'm here doesn't mean I gotta be your fucking friend. You certainly don't need to be up my ass."

Pestering the blue-eyed yearling wasn’t fun anymore. A frown had creased Sachiel’s dark features, his lips pursed into a tight frown as he observed the moody teenager. Askan really knew how to pick them… but what did that say about Sachiel? The grumpy Edge Lord had asked him to join his group of misfits—was he, somehow, similar to the wolf before him? Not possible! He shrugged in response to the yearling, his tail waving dismissively behind him: Alright, alright. Sorry for pesterin’ you. His mismatched eyes rolled. Jus’ wanted to introduce myself. And he hadn’t even gotten a chance to do that. See ya around. Another roll of his shoulders was given before he stepped away into the trees once more. He really hoped that more wolves like this grumpy yearling didn’t join the ranks; Sachiel did not know if he could handle all the negativity…

Sachiel’s exit unless stopped.

Cancer
would you be able to throw up one more so we can get 10 posts? <3

Just as quickly as he'd started, the boy backed down, giving Cancer his win. The grumpy teen settled back in with his scraps, paws and teeth grappling with the halved femur bone once more. His blue eyes watched @Sachiel just long enough to make sure he was actually leaving.

He didn't care about how dejected and putt off the yearling looked, didn't mind for it to be known that he could out-salt anyone looking to piss in his coffee. Yeah, maybe the kid had just wanted to be friendly, but Cancer had made it clear now wasn't the time and he'd gone ahead and pushed him. Well every other wolf was a force of their own too and they'd push back; he might as well learn that now if he wanted to able to survive without his pack at his back.
