He was growing tired of traveling. His mother’s scent weighed heavy on the land the further they went west, which meant they were getting closer. She was somewhere close, just out of reach… it was infuriating. Especially since he kept running into undesirable wolves who had to poke their noses where they didn’t belong. He would be sure to pester the willow wolves more after he’d found mother and notified her of what had happened. And now there were two more wolves added to their group. An older brother, Odin, and his loud-mouthed lady friend. As though they had needed more numbers to slow them down… Sterling was growing impatient. They had travelled enough; he was ready to reunite with his parents.
Once more the boy had separated from the group, sneaking ahead of them in hopes of finding mother first. The morning sun had greeted him as he advanced forward, poking through the branches and illuminating the body of water in the distance. His nose lifted to the sky, nostrils flaring as he inhaled deeply. She was here, somewhere. A frown creased his features as he lowered his maw, brows narrowing darkly. He didn’t want to call for her—that wasn’t the point of their journey. They were supposed to find her and she had not made it easy.
He stepped forward, following the edge of the lagoon as he continued to follow his mother’s trail… even if she was not lurking around there had to be someone lurking about who knew where she was… The scent of others was strong here; they mingled with his mother’s. It was the same scents that littered the striped forest on the eastern side of the mountain. Which meant they were all here, somewhere…
