Laike Artemieva
Laike Artemieva
i remember, i remember the days
when i'd make you oh so afraid

These coyotes were awfully dumb, weren't they? Soon enough the two other wolves were attacked and his instincts kicked in. His loyalties lied deeper with Kisla's daughter so it was no surprise when he had swooped to Risaela first. While it was busy latching onto her flank, he charged into its side with all his might. A wolf as thick as himself had no problem with knocking a more lithe creature like the coyote right off.

He feverishly snapped his jaws at the coyote with intentions of keeping it away from the yearling. The arch of his tail and crinkle of his face were more threatening than he had ever presented. Laike was fairly certain that he had never been so protective in his life but life had changed for him in the last year. He protected and led a pack now, was expecting his first litter of children this season, he had everything to lose now.

While that was such a terrifying thought, it fueled him on.

tldr; laike slams the coyote off of risaela and is using himself to keep it away from her.

Risaela ???
Ris was able to breathe for a moment when Laike took the coyote off of her. The bigger wolf was much better at fending off that coyote, and was clearly having no issue with it now. But there were still three more of them to worry about, and Ris’ attention went back toward Cancer.

Formerly, her loyalties would have lied more strongly with Inna. But she was currently more concerned with her companion. After all, he was closest to two coyotes that she could see - the third was not in her immediate field of vision, and she would have been concerned that it was heading toward Inna’s den if she hadn’t been more focused in on the one creeping up behind the black-furred boy she had grown so fond of.

This one was easier to handle. It wasn’t as big as the other - perhaps a bit younger. Though it did end up taking a chunk out of the soft skin where her hind leg met her flank and battered her up, she was able to pin it down and bite down on the back of its neck until it gave in and she could let it go so it could retreat.

Would this be over soon...?

Cancer
Cancer had never been much of a fighter. When things had gotten violent with others he'd always found a way to slip off and disappear rather than stick through a conflict. As such, he was at a disadvantage despite his larger size, his bites and hits nowhere near as effective as they could have been had he known what he was doing. He could see the second coming toward him, in glimpses where his vision wasn't being overwhelmed by his current opponent, but there was nothing he could do about it.

He was useless, and he knew it, and the anxiety built like a storm within his chest, urging him more strongly every second to run.

Then he got lucky, and his teeth found the coyote's throat. The lesser creature tried to twist free but this only aided Cancer in tearing him open, and then finally he was free. Pain wracked his body, the blood coating his fur was equal parts his own, and his throat felt as though it had closed on him, breathing an excruciating chore, but still he did not run.

Bleary eyes searched frantically for Risaela, and when they locked onto her, he lurched forward on shaky limbs and pure adrenaline. This was all so terribly familiar, but this time he was in the fray too, this time maybe he could make a difference.

Before he could reach her, she was finished. The coyote fled with its tail between its legs, and she was there still standing, catching her breath and bleeding but alive.

Cancer gagged, struggled to breathe, didn't know what to do next.

Inna Baranski

you fill my head with pieces

of a song i can't get out

Inna tucked her remaining pup further under her as the sounds from outside the den filtered in. She watched closely the entrance as shadows passed across it. The Raven didn't know if they belonged to her savours or those come to take her children and quite possibly her own life.

It was almost too much for the second time mother to not know what was happening outside. She wasn't normally one to sit by waiting to find out the outcome. The safety of her son was the only thing keeping her from running out to help her family.

Time seemed to pass so slowly inside the den and in that time her fiery gaze lit on the shadow of a figure that seemed to be lingering near the entrance. Quietly she moved her son behind her in case she needed to protect him from a coyote entering the den. She'd made a silent promise that she wouldn't let anything happen to him and she wasn't one to break a promise either.
