He did better by North's side. The sight of him helped him remember things were different. That he could take a moment and see the world as it was. No calculations, and critical thoughts. Scenarios that may never come to pass. But familiarity could breed contempt and he was weary of the thought. All he had was North. Splitting up for a day or two wouldn't be bad. They could cover more ground. Collect more information. Find an ally or something to eat. Though North would probably have better luck with the first, and him with the later.

Taking in a lung full of the cold air, there were certainly traces of prey in this part of land. Mostly the small variety, with a hint of deer. Pushing himself faster to keep the blood pumping in his limbs, as his blue eyes fell on the withered bushes he was a bit reluctant to get started. There were worse things than thorns, thistles, and burs but he wasn't fond of them sticking his nose. North would laugh at him if he came back covered in them. "Just plants," he muttered to himself, sweeping closer to the first patch where he found tracks. These ones went meandering through the sticks, and his blue eyes hung onto them for a long time. Eventually turning up to inspect the blackberry bush. Though this time of year it wasn't much of a bush. It was more like thick sticks, and a few dead leaves. Still he wasn't going to be able to push through them like a rabbit. He trotted further down the line, trying to hone in on the deer's scent.

Garmir Ghostpaw
OOC: Saw lonely thread and thought about hopping in. ^^

Leaving gathering information and spying to his apprentice had made Garmir's life much easier for sure, but occasionally the sole scout of Charred Ash Draw felt like travelling outside the borders and venturing into the wild even if for just the few days. Winter was nearly upon them and this was propably last time Garmir was going to travel far from the pack until spring would come again - unless told to do so ofcourse.

He had failed to find Lord Triell or confirm he was dead and while he no longer actively sought the father of wolf he worshipped like a god, Garmir still hoped he could some day be blessed with a sight of him.

Blackberry fields. Garmir knew much of the central parts of relic lore but he always could enchance the map he had of the area in his head. There was no aim to his wandering today, just enjoying travel, picking up scents, tracking movement of the prey and of course - trailing strangers. By chance he had come upon scent of a young male and immidietly Garmir had begin to follow. Trail was recent and there was a decent chance he would catch up with the stranger in time. Why did he randomly follow wolves like this? He had no reason to follow Cyril either, other than for his own amusement. Fun and games were not his thing but he loved to test others every now and then.

He noticed the stranger was trailing a prey as there was second scent joined with the wolf's own. Idea of spooking a stranger while he was enjoying meal was entertaining even if it brought chance for conflict. He wasn't looking for a fight, but idea of real threat was thrilling - enough to bring smile on his face. As Garmir finally came upon young male, he noticed there was no dead rabbit to be seen. A shame really, but still - he could least say hello. The earthen male barked to gain attention. No approach or words, just waiting patiently for reply while keeping respectable distance.

Glad you did! :D

ebbing and flowing

pushed by the breeze, i live to make you free

He couldn't quite pick a single deer's scent. There were several who came to trample around here, and it seemed about all the same time day in and day out. None of them really had anything wrong with them either. At least not by their scent so his chances dropped even further. If he waited he was sure there was probably one weaker than the others, but if they didn't have meat on their bones it wouldn't do him a world of good. He was just overthinking it all...again.

Thinking perhaps North had caught up to him his head lifted, but instead a bark sounded from a stranger at hand. Not a big deal. His eyes drift to the man, a slight wariness was in them. He didn't like being barked at, and he didn't like social interaction. It was something he in fact dreaded. A brawl was a lot easier as talking wasn't required.

Cal didn't get his fur ruffled. He liked to think he stood there rather neutral, looking over this one. For starters he had a lot of scars on his face. Ones that left little guess what they were from. There was life in his green eyes, the brightest thing against the shades of brown and grey. Why it really didn't matter, he was glad he had a couple inches over the guy. It was hardly an advantage but he'd take what he could get."A hello there works too you know," he mumbled. Even he knew that.

Garmir Ghostpaw

Garmir approached without word spoken, holding curious look on his face as he studied the stranger. It was as if he was trying to decide if what he saw was fellow predator or prey. Ears remained up, pointing towards him and his eyes never blinked while he closely followed details of the fellow wolf. Garmir noticed a scarring on young male's muzzle, something which did seem like evidence of past violence. Wether it was gained battle experience of recieved beating, Garmir did not care. Even when the other male stood slightly taller than him, the earthen male was perfectly confident in his abilities.

Did he have to consider this stranger as potential opponent? Sure, fighting was entertaining to a decree but he was more curious about the character than testing his skills. Without further posturing or attempts of intimidation, Garmir adopted more friendly approach, something he had got to practice plenty in the Charred Ash Draw as of late. A little tail wag here, smiling face there, relaxed posture to make it all better - all of sudden Garmir seemed like he was greeting a long lost friend of his, his first words also on script. "Yes... Hello, friend." -he said, now closer to Calix but still not too close to trespass into personal space.

ebbing and flowing

Calix didn't like to be gawked at. If the man would just say something, or get that strange look off his face. But he decided to keep that piece of information to himself. It wasn't worth getting into a scuffle over. Nor was it the time or place. Logically, anything that took effort without great reward was to be avoided. An idea that was deeply ingrained. He needed to do all he could to retain his current shape. Why North might be able to talk them into staying with some kind of pack Calix wasn't going to count on it. He'd probably be harder to swallow.

This stranger wasn't making it easy for him. Chirping off like they knew each other sent the warning bells in his head blaring. Abort! Abort! It was a trick! A lie! A bluff! Calix didn't have anything for the stranger to necessarily take. So he kept his legs planted. It was only a a touch of question that crumpled part of his fur above each of his eyes. Friend? He was damn sure they'd never met, and even if he hadn't been raised differently he was pretty sure that was odd. Not for the first time he wished North would pop up. Since he wasn't here Calix had to make the best of it. Would it be bad to have a "friend" already? He did look like he ate well, and Calix was quite sure he wasn't on his own. What the hell did you say to that? His silence likely made it obvious he didn't know. He began to stumble for the right words. "Uh, erm...sorry I don't think we've met." He remembered such things too well unfortunately. It was clear he didn't want to upset the man over the fact.

Garmir Ghostpaw
Ooc: phone post. Sorry for long wait. :/

True, they were not friends and Garmir had no real interest in being one. It was simply something he said to signal good intentions when meeting someone unknown. He thought he was making a good impression so far. "You are right. We have not." he confirmed with what he least tried to make sound like a friendly tune but what might have come off as something bit creepy.

His gaze turned away from the stranger just for a moment as Garmir took in their surroundings. He was looking for something but did not see it. "I was hoping you would have caught it... Oh well." came the words out of his maw as his eyes shifted and adjusted back on his friend.

Garmir inhaled the stranger's scent from distance and from what he could tell, there was a faint hint of someone else... a companion perhaps?
