The sun was rising in the sky causing tendrils of pink, orange, and violet to streak across the sky. It was a gorgeous display but mostly hidden by the trees. A shame, the lone wolf thought as she travelled along with her gaze turned upwards to catch what she could of the spectacle. Her breath frosted on the air, sending echoes of white out of her maw as she breathed. It was a shame that she couldn't see all of it but nonetheless it was certainly not boorish.

As she walked along, gaze skyward, the woman found that the setting seemed to change. Not really the trees themselves but something in the very atmosphere itself... Hmm...

She pulled her golden eyes from the sky above to look around. It was still a wooded area. Nothing visible had changed but the air... it felt heavy with something other than the frigid cold. She couldn't put her paw on what it was. Her gaze was curious as she looked around at everything around her. Her reddish tail hung loosely behind her as she sniffed and walked around, ending up at a tree where pawed at some soil that seemed recently disturbed. Smelled like some musky thing had been rooting around but was no longer there. More importantly... that certainly wasn't the reason for the strange feel in the air.

Woya Macieo
Woya was getting hungry again, and that meant she was also getting cranky and impatient. As the hours passed with her stomach actively demanding food, she became increasingly narrowminded. This girl needed to eat, dammit.

The sky above meant nothing to her, even as it's floral colors reflected off the ice encasing the forest, causing it to glint and glimmer as though jeweled. What she wanted was that scent of something that kept tickling at her nose but as her paws took her onward, the smell thickened and she was able to recognize that it was just another wolf she'd discovered. Her muzzle wrinkled with displeasure, before Woya was reminded by the little angel on her shoulder that a fellow set of teeth meant better chances for a kill.

Begrudgingly, the pale woman pressed on, following after the stranger's trail.

When the auburn other at last came into sight, she forced on a small smile and slipped into view.

"Hey. You uh... noticed anything edible lately?"

One thing that wasn't conducive to one's health was being so distracted that you didn't focus on what was around you. Gyrfalcon was the culprit of this as she studied this place, slowly padding forward and stopping every few steps to investigate. The tree had been left alone briefly as she looked at a neighboring bush. Snuffling noises could be heard as she investigated the object of her interest... all the way up until someone else entered the scene.

Gyrfalcon gave a start, head lifting sharply... only to get caught on a branch of the bush. "Owowow!" She hissed sharply as the branches tangled into her fur. Ah crap! Crap! This was not the way to meet new wolves! She shook her head violently, trying to shake herself out of the branch. "Uh! One moment! Thank-you for your patience!" She said with a breathy laugh as she tried to feign nonchalance at the whole situation... even though it stung quite a lot to try to dislodge herself.

Finally, though --sans a few pieces of hair-- she managed to free herself. There was no telling what the other wolf thought of her so she did what she did best. Joke about it. "Certainly nothing edible under there." She said with a wide grin as she looked at the pale she-wolf. "Although I smelled something by that tree," She gestured to the roots that she'd been examining earlier. "But it seems like it's long gone at this point." Of course, they could always track it down or find something new. How long had it been since she'd eaten last? It wasn't every day that you ran into another wolf that you could team up with for a bit of easier grub.

"We could try to find it though."

Woya Macieo
Woya saw the wolf jolt, but certainly didn't trip over herself to apologize for startling the woman, nor did she rush to assist when she got her mocha-shaded fur visibly caught. After all, it wasn't her fault the other hadn't been paying attention to what was going on around her. She might have even started to get impatient with the wolf, as though the stranger were indeed deeply inconveniencing Woya by getting into this situation. Instead, however, she found herself smirking with amusement at the other woman's ferocious efforts to free herself.

Contrasted with the abrupt pause to deliver a flustered apology, gratitude for her patience of all things, Woya was positively bubbling over with giggles at the whole picture. While she could be a very abrasive wolf, especially often after being on her own for so long, this time at least there was no malice or derisiveness to the music-box-like laughter. She simply found it all to be comical, and in all actuality, it helped lift her mood just a smidge.

By the time she was able to free herself, Woya's glee had subsided, but the crooked smile remained. She raised a brow, smirk hitching higher simultaneously, at the other wolf's remarks. Had it been just moments earlier, the Macieo would've been likely to jump down the stranger's throat for daring to joke about food when she was starving. Those brownie points were being eaten into however, as Woya's company got her hopes up then immediately cut them down again by mentioning whatever stale scent she'd found under something else with branches.

The muscles in her jaw tensed in preparation as Woya was about to cut in to try and get to the chase; her stomach twisted uncomfortably, upset with being teased. Then her acquaintance said the magic words, and the gathering clouds dissipated abruptly.

"Yes," she answered enthusiastically, wry grin stretching over her muzzle, "I'd eat anything right now."

That was an exaggeration, but whatever, it's how she felt.

It seemed as if her hasty apology was not even needed. She could just hear the peels of laughter from the other she-wolf. Perhaps a lesser wolf might have been offended that their plight was a source of maniacal joy but Gyr was happy that she was able to provide such enthusiastic amusement. Even if it hurt to get the tendrils of fur pulled out. Worth it. Was what she told herself.

When she had freed herself, she noted the smirk on the other's face. A smirk that she mostly read as a gleeful smile. Company with a good sense of humor, it seemed? That was how she read it. Completely oblivious except to the most overt of signals from her any companions that she found herself with. The woman let a smile sit on her own face. It lit up her face, fully manifesting in her eyes as she began to trot over to the tree that she'd previously smelled that stale scent from. "Anything? Hopefully we can find this thing so you don't have to resort to eating something too disgusting." She said with a chuckle.

"Smell came from over here." The woman stopped once she was next to the tree and began rooting around for that scent. What was it? Too musky for a rodent and not nearly foul enough for a skunk. Badger? Wolverine? Hopefully not the latter. A badger was bad enough but wolverines were aggressive little buggers. She had a cousin get half of his ear get ripped clean off because he tried to show how tough he was by fighting one. "Alriiiight, let's see where this trail leads." Two noses were better than one in this case and she was glad to have someone else here helping out to find out where this piece of prey had gone.

The brown and russet woman began to snuffle and track as she tried to follow along behind the stale scent with her companion hopefully along with her.

Woya Macieo
Woya's nose immediately began twitching as she watched the other begin her tracking. Her belly gurgled eagerly as her pale paws took her over the crisp snow and to the stranger's side. Sandy eyes watched closely, hopeful that her companion would pick up on something quick. Again, she was not a wolf of even moderate patience.

She did indeed follow after, attempting to grab hold of the trail as well so that she could maybe help. It was one of those rare instances in which she didn't mind doing so, because of course it was for her own dinner, and maybe it would be necessary if she wanted to expedite the process. Her sniffling nostrils caught something and with her muzzle leading her Woya veered from the older scent toward something far fresher...

Gyrfalcon took the lead, following the trail intently with her nose down and twitching as she tried to follow the very old trail. It would be tough to locate but it would certainly be worth it when it was found. Although, if it was something tiny they'd have to split it in two and that wouldn't really be a big meal... but she supposed it was something. Of course, she could always be a jerk and just try to run off with it.

Naaahh... wasn't worth it. Karma and all that crap. Besides, her conscious would eat her up if she ever did that to someone that was obviously so hungry.

She probably shouldn't be up in her head like this. She'd never locate the mustelid at this rate. She had to be absolutely focused so that--

Huh?! Was the other wolf leaving? Gyrfalcon pulled up to a stop, head lifting as she turned her mismatched eyes onto the other she-wolf with a quizzical expression. "Hey! Where are you--" She stopped speaking then as a new smell wafted to her nose. Deer! Very close at that. Now that was far more promising than the badger they were trying to track down. "Ooohh..." She said out loud in understanding as she abandoned her trail and this time, fell in behind the paler wolfess towards the young deer.

Woya Macieo
Woya's ears leaned back as the other spoke, clearly surprised by her deviation from the chosen path. The other was quick to catch the scent for herself, however, and the two predators both locked in on the poor fawn's stranded existence. Together, they were all but guaranteed to successfully trap and swiftly kill the other animal. Again, the paler wolf's mood saw an uptick as their prospects increased markedly.

Her earthy eyes caught sight of a pelt the same color, moving between the darker tree trunks. There. She chuffed lowly to her companion, hoping that the other wolf saw their mark as well. Woya shifted to moved away from her partner once more, this time so that they could approach the unwitting fawn at opposing angles, making it less likely the deer would be able to outmaneuver them and escape.
