Matos Eastfall-Slayer
For @Magg <3

Springtime was about renewal. Out with the old and in with the new. A time for change and rebirth. Change...thats exactly what had happened and exactly what the dark Eastfall-Slayer boy didn't like. Everything felt like it had changed. He was growing older, almost to his full grown size now that he was a year old...a yearling. The feeling was strange, growing up. If that wasn't enough, Dad was sick, Gramma was clearly much more fragile than he remembered. Mama was running the pack while smelling different and having her belly grow in an unnatural fashion. Which apparently meant he would be having more siblings. And now? Mona was leaving! He shook his head as ebony paw moved easily over the rocky terrain of the cove. There was only one individual who understood exactly how he felt. Green and amber searched the sparce forest for his tawny littermate. She would understand how he felt with, with everyone and everything really. What was going on?

Magg Slayer
Magg had exceptionally mixed emotions on the idea of more siblings coming and the departure of her agemate sister both. When it came to Mona, she supposed the more dominant emotion was... relief? She had been the one wolf Magg had never been able to figure out how to act properly around, and had long ago grown tired of trying. To no longer have that awkwardness and pressure felt good, but there also went her chances of ever having a good relationship with the other girl, or at least so it felt to her. More importantly, the impact it had on her parents and brother.

She noticed Matos appear with scanning eyes, and raised her head to give out a few welcoming yaps. Whatever he was looking for or thinking about, Magg was here to assist.

Green and amber scanned the similar colors of the forest for his tawny littermate. Though his eyes searched it was his ears that found her first. Magg’s notifying yaps reached his fluffy dark audits. Flicking in her direction his gaze finally caught sight of her. A small sense of relief came over his as he made his way towards her. A nudge was given to her shoulder then her chin in greeting “Hey sis.”

A sigh escaped Matos’ inky maw giving insight to the turmoil that swirled within him. Would growing up always be like this? Everything changing? Or would it settle once he was an adult? Only time would tell. For now he would have to figure out how to navigate it and hoped his remaining sister would be able to help. Or maybe if he helped her through any feelings she had it would also help him.

“How ya holdin’ up?” he asked Magg as his onyx rump found its way to the ground. His think fluffy tail wrapped around his rear legs in a subconscious effort to comfort/protect himself. He didn’t really feel like he could talk to anyone about what was going on because he feared they wouldn’t understand. So if he asked his littermate how she was doing and she opened up maybe he’d fully be able to as well.

Magg touched her nose to his cheek when Matos greeted her, tail thumping happily against the ground. Her relationship with her brother had always been the opposite of that with her sister, and she genuinely hoped it was the same with whoever was joining them. It seemed things were weighing on him today, though. Magg's own mood tempered, shifting to match his somberness. She looked out toward that lake of theirs, its shimmering ever present no matter how many trees stood in-between.

If it had been @Galen asking her, she would have admitted that it honestly felt better not being judged all of the time. Matos had always cared for Mona though, or so it seemed, and she didn't want to risk putting that kind of wedge between herself and her sibling, especially not if it would favor her sister.

"I don't know. Trying to think about other things but... I'm worried about Dad."

He knew that his sisters’ relationship was strained and seemed like it always had been. Would Magg feel the same way about her leaving? The young boy surmised that she probably didn’t but Mona was still their sister…and to have just left? And with Dad being sick what if something happened and she wasn’t here like Kateri wasn’t? And speaking of that would mean their younger siblings wouldn’t know yet another older sibling. And and and…

Matos’ dual gaze seemed to glaze over as the thoughts swirled violently within his mind. They ate up so much of his attention he almost missed the answer to his own question from his tawny littermate. Green and amber snapped to look at her while his brain fought itself to catch up and process what had been said. Dad. “Yeah same…” he trailed not much of a support in this moment. At least her answered had allowed his mind to focus on one “catastrophe” instead of them all at once.

“He’ll get better” He assured her with a small smile. “He has to” he added to himself in attempt to convince them both. They couldn’t lose him like their agemates had lost theirs – they just couldn’t. “Mama is lookin’ after him. He seems better.” He added for some extra assurance. Their mother was a fantastic healer. If anyone could make him better it would be her.

Of course her brother shared her sentiments, and of course he tried to reassure her. That was Matos. She couldn't help but chew her lip though, anxiously trying not to say what was on her mind.

That was what they'd kept telling them about Aleister, too.

"Yeah... I know," she settled on once able, resting her chin upon her outstretched forelimbs. It was difficult to be as honest with Matos as she might have Galen, because rather than separate, her brother was in this with her, going through exactly the same things. That meant her words could hurt him, drag him down, and she didn't want that.

So instead, she opted for gloomy silence.

What had happened with Uncle Al wasn't lost on the elder Eastfall-Slayer child. He knew that things had been alright and he was getting better but then - wham he was gone. But this was Dad they were talking about...he just had to get better. There couldn't be an alternative. His mind swirled around as the pair sat in gloomy silence. He was unsure of what else to say. It wasnt like anything they said would be able to change anything.

He shifted uneasy next to her as he thought of a delicate way to bring up their sibling leaving. "I know ya 'n Mona didnt get along but do ya think she's alright? He asked as gently as he could. Ever since he could remember his littermates have fought. He didnt really understand why they fought so badly. He loved them both so why didnt they love each other?
