For @Leotie, but others are welcome to join as well!

Mid-afternoon, after recent snowfall

Nose to the ground, the Oak Tree Bend subordinate breathed in deeply. He could smell the dirt and the dead grass, but mostly the cold. Lifting his front paw, he swatted at his nose, shaking free the loose snow that had collected on the end of his muzzle. Winter had made Serach restless, and so he had wandered away from his pack's territory and into the unclaimed land of Spectral Woods. He hadn't really had a destination in mind, but the slow sound of water running had piqued his interest and he had found himself moving north. Loping easily through the woods alongside the banks of the partly frozen creek, he dimly noted that he was fast approaching the land that used to belong to Magnolia Glen. Once upon a time, that would have sent him running back home, but it had been a year since the Bend's rivals had lived in this forest and their scents and claim to this portion of the forest had long since faded. His frequent stops to scent the tree trunks and foliage confirmed that much.

By and large, the creek was frozen solid - it was too cold and the creek not deep enough to withstand winter's icy touch. Only where the water tumbled down hills and turned to rapids did it continue to move. Lifting his head from the snow, he turned to the side and watched one of those rapids now. Wonder if there's any fish, he thought, but he made no movements towards the water to find out. While in some places the ice would have been solid enough to hold his weight, he didn't trust it here and the last thing he wanted was to be doused in the icy spray.

Leotie Rhys

Her time in Oak Tree Bend had not been long though winter had clearly settled in and Leotie was glad that she had found the pack and they had allowed her to join. The weather was much different to her now that she was out in the forest on her own. At home all she had to do was wait at the door for her humans to let her into the house but there was no chance that that would happen now. It was something she had to get used to and she thought that she was doing an okay job at it.

She was still practicing her hunting skills like she had been shown before she had joined the pack but with the recent snow fall she felt that she might not be getting things exactly right. Often she felt that she had lost the scent and had trouble getting it back. She had traveled further from the den than she had in previous days though she felt confident that she would be able to find her way back when she was ready. Her journey had taken her to a creek that by all appearances seemed to be frozen and she did not want to find out for sure by ending up in the water which she felt would be colder than the water she had fallen into in her last adventure with water.

She traveled some ways up the creek in search of some area that might afford her a small drink after her failed hunting trip. She came to an area where the water caused a rapid and she noticed another wolf that she recognized from her pack though she hadn’t formerly met him, till now any way. “Hello,” she said as she approached him head down slightly below her shoulder blades, “I’m Leotie, What bring you out here?” She asked cheerfully.

Sorry for the wait!

The subordinate had been preoccupied with sniffing at the ground, willing his senses to be able to sniff through the ice to detect any signs of life below. So when Leotie called out to him, he jumped, lifting his head quickly to face the intruder. As he turned to face her, his nose was assaulted with the scents of the Bend and he relaxed. Looking at her directly, he recognized her, having seen her around the Bend for the past little while, but they had never had the opportunity to talk with each other one on one before. "Hello," he returned, his lips upturning into a smile. "I'm Serach." Tilting his head to the side, he gestured towards the partially frozen creek. "I was looking for fish, if you can believe it," he grinned at her. He was not a particularly capable fisherman-not that she would know that-and trying to hunt down a fish when the water was mostly frozen was just absurd. Maybe if the creek had been a river and the ice had been solid enough to hold him, it would have been more feasible.

"What brings you out here? Just exploring?" He asked her, genuinely curious. Of the wolves who had come and gone throughout his time at the Bend, those who were less likely to stay around always seemed to stick as close as they could to the Bend's central territory before they disappeared without a trace. Maybe this was her exit and he'd caught her? He narrowed his eyes slightly, looking at her with newfound suspicion.
