He paid the searing pain in his ear no attention as he gave the mutt one final shake before releasing his grip, lips still curled into a snarl. Once the shadow and the newcomer were done here Greer would seek out medical attention from Lorcán, but right now he had much more important matters to attend to. Losing a meal to a couple of vermin was not something he wanted to explain to his sister and the silver spider. Just as he spun on his heels to flash his teeth at the remaining coyotes his partner in crime beat him to it. Greer offered his own fangs as a threat to the lingering scavengers as he lurched forward, the fur on his back bristling. One had retreated quickly, tail tucked and thin legs moving frantically over the frozen ground. The other tried fighting back but was unsuccessful and met with Alastor’s teeth.

As the final coyote bounded away, blood dripping from a cut on its cheek, Greer’s shoulders sagged in relief. His injured ear twitched as he turned to the carcass they had won, and the two fallen mutts. He flashed his partner a cheeky grin, his tail hanging low as it gave a soft wag. There was certainly enough for the both of them to fill their stomachs and bring some back to the monadnock. The newcomer proved to be a worthy asset—Greer would be sure to let his sister now that he approved of the addition.

Feel free to fade in your next post @Greer c:

In the eye of a hurricane there is quiet

The boy gave final, deep bark in the direction of the coyote claiming the carcass as their own in case any other mutt decided it wanted to try and come at them. Certainly they would think twice after their little display. He turned and was greeting with an approving grin and posture from the other, a grin of his own spreading across his maw. “The bastards will think twice about coming after prey in our territory after that,” he said, tail giving a pleased flicker behind his frame. With all the meat he knew they would be able to all eat, something he was extremely pleased at. But, now that everything was settled he remembered his manners and rank. Moving back he allowed himself to settle into a laying position, nodding toward the carcass as telling the higher ranked male that he was waiting for him as way appropriate. Once he was given the go ahead he’d then fill himself too, but only then.

After everything was said and done he lifted his muzzle to the sky and called for the rest of the pack. Instead of hauling it to them they could just as easily come to the meat. It would prevent them from expending too much effort and it would keep them from having to leave it to the possibilities of the scavengers coming back for a bite.

A lop-sided smirk tugged at his lips at the silver wolf’s comment and he snorted in agreement, his brows narrowing as he watched the tawny scavengers disappear in the distance. It seemed winter was hard on all creatures of the Lore this year, but the Whitestone wolves could not afford to share with mutts. Their numbers continued to swell; they needed to be persistent with their hunting (and scavenging). They could not turn up their noses at any meal, even if it was already partially digested by others.

He felt uncomfortable as the silver wolf stepped back to allow the shadow to eat first, but he did not object. The hunger pains in his stomach were impossible to ignore as he stepped forward to gorge on the meal they had fought for. The throbbing in his wounded ear began to subside as his teeth tore at the carcass. Once the remaining meat was brought back to the monadnock’s caches Greer would seek out Lorcán for something to combat infection, and perhaps something to dull the pain even further.

After his hunting partner finished eating his fill, Greer joined his call for the Whitestone wolves. There was enough to feed their hungry mouths and replenish the caches. His tail wagged excitedly behind him as he waited for their packmates to arrive, his cherry tongue lapping up any remnants of meat along his whiskers.
