Wild Rye Fields I now pronounce you...

She had heard Askan's call, about coming home with company and her heart had sunk. Who did he drag home this time? But despite her initial trepidation all was well. She was a visitor and Percy had allowed herself to relax and enjoy the strangers company until she realised the traveller was probably as tired as Askan had been and it was probably rude to keep her awake chewing her ear off and asking questions about the lands that stretched beyond those she had already explored.

Caring less about being rude to Askan, she had taken her leave and gone to seek the dark man out. Her head dipped low as she spotted him, sleeping soundly. Silly Askan. He should know better than to let his guard down, even within his own territory. Her shoulders bunched and she lowered herself, wide smile already working its way onto her face as she envisioned all that was about to go down. There would probably be yelling, and grumbling, and a lot of laughter from her silver ticked face. Should she do as she had when she was younger and tug on an ear or should she try to grab him by the snout with a challenging growl?

Never mind that, she had land her hit first. There was hardly a need to creep up on him, as soundly asleep as he was, but she did it anyway, for the sake of practicing.

Askan indeed was sound asleep. And why wouldn't he be? As productive as he liked to be, he couldn't let the chance to nap pass by. The way he saw it, he'd more than earned it. He deserved some peace and quiet, so as soon as he was able he had slipped away and curled up in his usual spot, as tight as he could manage. After a few minutes of blissful calm, the Rye wolf had fallen asleep and had intended to remain that way for an hour or two. Or at the very least until he was needed. But to his dismay (poor poor Askan) the world Percy had other plans. Devious plans.

He thought he was dreaming. His eyes were closed, all he could see was black. Could barely feel the ground beneath him, his leg twitched and he sighed, snuggled deeper into the snow. Then something, a presence? Footsteps? A dream surely. Vague, nonsensical, it had to be. He ignored it and tried to bury himself in sleeps embrace but- Teeth. A tentative pull. A little more. YANK. 

"OW!" Askan yelped as his eyes flew open, his teeth bared. "The hell-"

Oh. Askan uncoiled his muscles and pressed his stomach back down onto the ground. Percy. He should have known. Only she would have the audacity and desire to yank on his ear as though it were a plaything. He thought she had grown out of such shenanigans but apparently not. Percy's playful demeanour and cheeky smile was too much for Askan. How could he be angry? It seemed like too much effort, so as quickly as his ire emerged it retreated back to whence it came. Probably from some deep dark pit, or something gloomy like that. Untucking his tail,  he bowed his back in a quick but effective stretch before his attention returned to the not so little pup. If you could even call her that anymore. How she'd grown.

"Thought you'd outgrown that sorta thing." He grumbled for good measure and pawed at his still stinging ear. It'd fade, so he paid it little interest then moved on.  "What's got you feeling so chipper?"

She snuck up on the sleeping wolf, wow he must have been really tired to not even stir when she deliberately stepped so loudly. She struggled to contain her giggle, a silent snicker, as she flung herself forward and across the sleeping wolfs back, grabbing a hold of his ear with a sharp tug. The teeth and the yelp were all drowned out by her laugh as she dropped her weight on his chest and lost her balance, sliding off his flank with feet in the air and stomach exposed to the sky. She quickly rolled over, regaining her footing and apologising with a lick to the offended ear and a toothy grin.

Her tail thumped the ground as she bought herself to a seated position, wondering just when she had gotten so tall. "I made some friends!" she told @Askan, her voice low enough to tell him that her parents didn't know and they hadn't been passing by close enough for her to meet them while doing as she should and staying within the borders. "I followed the river through the trees and met a boy, and a bit further along I met a girl, and they were my age!" Her excitement was obvious from the sweeping of her tail in the snow to the huge smile that was plastered on her face.

"You met a boy?"

He of course noticed she had said friends- plural-and the fact she'd also mentioned a girl, but he elected to ignore that. For now anyway. He couldn't help but wonder where these wolves were from. He knew that there was a pack nearby, so it would be natural to assume that they were from there. He would have asked, but he wasn't sure whether Percy would know where they were from, or whether she would even thought to ask. She was probably just glad to meet a wolf of her age. He was happy for her, truly he was. She deserved friends, other than himself that is.

As happy as he was, he couldn't resist the urge to tease her.After what she'd just done, she deserved it really, and he felt as though he could do with a good laugh. It'd been a while.

"Oh? What was he like huh?" He dragged himself closer and nudged her with a bulky shoulder. "Where did you meet him?"

It felt a little silly chatting so casually like this, but at the same time if felt good. Amazing really. He could be so relaxed around her, so at ease. It felt natural. And he knew why, they were friends and this was what friends did, right? They talked and they felt comfortable around each other. It was almost laughable that a while back the thought of being her friend would have gotten him all worked up, but now it felt as natural as breathing. Only for her. No one else, he was content with just having Percy. But as he thought before, the prospect of her having friends wasn't a foul one.

"Come on, spill it." He urged, with an amused glint in his eyes, his lips curling up a little at the corners.

The nudge was met with a wry smirk, she hadn't expected to get away with the news without some degree of teasing but that didn't mean she couldn't play along, maybe make him sweat a little. "Yeah, he was all browns and greys with blue eyes..." she batted her eyes and sighed for effect, struggling to contain the peals of laughter that wanted to break forth in rolling waves. "We met in the forest, by the river, we ate berries." She was trying to make it sound like a very romantic date indeed, like something her parents might do together, unaware of how her companion might take her play acting.

Her head tilted as she remembered that she needed to figure out what fir trees looked like, "Hey Askan, which ones are Fir trees? Apparently he lives in a bunch of them somewhere south of us." Perhaps he even knew where the pack was located and could give her direction or show her the way? Surely he would be happier to come along and make sure no shadows swayed in her direction. Her tail continued to thump a steady beat, watching her friend closely to see just how he would take her acting.

Askan couldn't help but guffaw until his sides hurt, till he had to wipe at his eyes with a paw. Percy, wasn't she something? No one else made him laugh like that, and he doubted anyone else would ever be able to. What they had together, it was almost like a secret, a part of themselves that they only showed to each other. This fella of hers though, Askan knew full well that she was laying it on thick, but that didn't mean he couldn't do the same, right?

"Does he now?" He asked, once he had managed to catch his breath. "Sounds like a catch."

How he managed to say that with a straight face was beyond him. But truly, Askan had little interest in this new boy. By no means was he against her having friends her own age, but that said he was no friend of Askan's. And he intended to keep it that way, unless the situation changed. The idea of Percy dating, was honestly rather weird. That said, she was quite a deal younger than him and his best friend, so thinking of her like that was beyond his usual realm of thoughts. He wouldn't be all that surprised if she turned out to be a bit of a heart breaker when she grew up. She was rather striking after all.

"That sounds all very... Wait a second."Askan squinted, suddenly very serious.

He had an idea of where she was talking about, but come on. An opportunity had just presented itself to him, he'd never get a chance like this ever again. He had to grab it now, when he could.

"You ate berries with a White Fir Notch wolf?" He gasped, the epitome of shock and concern. "Please tell me you aren't serious." His voice levelled out into it's usual serious, sombre tone. "You went south and... Percy!" He nipped at her ear in admonishment. "Why'd you go and do something as stupid as that? Do you want to leave your home? Leave us, me?"

It was hard to contain his smile, it was struggling to wriggle free, but with great effort he managed.
