Ryker Lieris
Ryker got a bit too curious for his own good lol. But he's outside the borders and just wandering around nearby @Askan

The young wolf was heading north of his pack a little, having noticed there was now another pack close by. He wondered if this was the pack his friend Percy was from, since she had said they were nearby. He hoped so, becusse he'd like to see her again. And if it indeed was her pack, they weren't far away so it'd be easy for the two to see each other and play.

It wasn't a long trip or hard to find the borders, of which he carefully made sure he didn't put so much as a toe over, skirting around them carefully while taking in the scenery around him. His parents probably wouldn't be happy that he had snuck away to check the pack out but it honestly wasn't a long journey and he didn't plan on being away long. His young curiosity had gotten the better of him and his want to know if this was his friend's pack had made it difficult to ignore. This was the first time another pack had been so close to them and since his parents had yet to say anything about staying away from them, Ryker assumed they were at least neutral toward them.

The land around him was different to him, trees eventually turning into flat land and he wondered what grew in the plains during the warmer months.

As always, Askan patrolled the borders, pausing every other step to leave a scent mark behind. Despite the pack's small size, it had to be commended that their borders were very well maintained. Askan would claim that it was all his work- or at the very least he deserved most of the credit- but really it was a group effort. As he trudged along his nose picked up on various scents. Drestig's, Jessie's, a hint of Percy and a fair amount of Adelayde. Not enough Icicle, or so Askan thought.

By the time Askan made his third round it was early afternoon. Warm breath air puffed from his open lips and he pace slowed till he was walking at a snail's pace. By no means was he done for the day, there was still plenty to do, but he intended to take a breather. Or at least he did until he spotted a tawny figure slinking around the edge of the field. From where he stood-about two hundred yards away- it was easy for him to come to the conclusion that this wolf posed no threat to the pack. They were young, a little lanky, not quite full grown yet. If anything they were having a quick nose about, or were lured in by the rumour of a new pack settling in the Lowlands.

Either way, Askan saw it as his responsibility to meet them. He doubted he'd have to chase them away (he would if he felt like he had to) but he imagined he'd have to explain who they were and so on so forth. Wonderful, more socialising. And maybe this time Askan wouldn't be so rude, as Jessie had put it the other day. Then again, he did tend to find kids more tolerable than grownups, so there wasn't too much danger of Askan getting all grumpy, well grumpier than he usually was. He wasn't making any promises though, it all depended on what the stranger had to say, so with that in mind he broke into a trot and met the outsider.

It was difficult, but Askan smothered the instinct to snap 'the hell you want.' If he wanted to represent the pack well he had to exercise some tact, he couldn't get snarky with others lest he offend their pack in turn. And yes, as soon as he got close enough Askan realised this kid was a pack wolf. He reeked of it. They carried a familiar scent, but not one he could put a name to. Where the hell was this kid from? And why was he slithering about like a snake in long grass?

"You planning on skulking round for long, kid?" That wasn't much better than his usual, but at least he managed to lessen the bite in his tone. Now he only sounded mildly irritated.

Ryker Lieris
Having been so caught up in his exploring, Ryker nearly leapt out of his skin when the other wolf asked if he planned on skulking around long and whirled around with his ears plaster to his lowered head and tail tucked between his legs.

"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to skulk, I justwantedtoexplore-" he hurriedly tried to explain, his words stumbling over themselves as they were blurted out towards the end. But Ryker soon realised the man wasn't being mean or about to attack him. He truly just wanted to know what Ryker was doing here. Yet Ryker still felt very nervous.

Taking a few deep breath, though keeping his posture low, Ryker answered the adult's question.  "I'm just - I met a friend a while back, a girl named Percy. She said she lived around here, with her family. A-and I noticed there was a pack nearby so I wanted to see if, if this was her home." He rambled a bit but he was truly nervous. It was clear the wolf before him was from within the borders he had been carefully avoiding and Ryker just hoped he hadn't been watching the entire time and just maybe, waiting for the pup to make a mistake so he could be chased off. Ryker had made sure he hadn't done anything g wrong.

"I-I'm Ryker Lieris, from White F-Fir Notch a little further south." Maybe his parents were already aware of the elder's pack and maybe this male had heard of it. Or so Ryker hoped.

Ah, he was one of them wasn't he? The sort that just blurted out words without thinking them through. It was a little annoying, for sure, but at least the kid had the mind to be apologetic. The kid held his head low and his tail was curled between his legs, as though Askan was scolding him like a disapproving parent. If he'd been brash and rude in his response Askan certainly wouldn't have taken kindly to him, if anything he would have shot a curt word or two his way and sent him packing. But with the way things stood, the Rye wolf was willing to hear him out. For now.

@Phoenix liked to explore, so he could hardly blame this kid for doing the same. He was about to brush his apology to the side, as he wasn't typically the sort who said 'there there, don't worry I forgive you', however, he was quite distracted by the tawny kid's next words. He knew Percy? What? How? As he thought before, he had never been under the impression that Percy remained with the pack's borders at all times. He knew full well that she went off and did her own thing, and she was free to do so. So really he shouldn't have been surprised that she had ran into a kid of her age, if anything he should have been glad. Hanging out with him all the time wouldn't do her any good. Lest he wanted her to turn out as grumpy as he was.

"Yeah, Percy lives here."He told him, pronouncing each word slowly and with care. "Which friend are you again?"

His latter question turned out to be irrelevant, as the kid continued to speak and all became clear. Ryker Lieris. The last name didn't ring a bell, Askan had never heard it before, but the same couldn't be said for his first name. Ryker. As in...? He was from White Fir Notch, so he was Gent's kid? As well as Percy's 'Berry husband.'

It had been a little joke at the time, his way of getting back at Percy for waking him up. But her reaction had been so funny he couldn't come clean and tell her the truth. It was just a bit of harmless fun, so he didn't think stringing her along would hurt her any. But he never imagined that said berry husband would appear at their borders to look for his 'wife.' He would have laughed right there and then, it was funny, and it certainly provided him with more ammo to tease Percy with. But being his usual stoic self, not a hint of amusement showed on his shadowy face. Not a hint.

"So you're Ryker." He looked the kid up and down, with a derisive glint in his eyes.

He didn't look like much. And as much as Askan knew it was all a joke, he concluded that Ryker was not husband material. He was too timid for one, Percy would walk all over him and use him as a rug. He clearly needed to do some growing up, and perhaps whilst he was doing that he could also grow a spine. Askan snorted in contempt and stared at the kid again. He had blue eyes like his father, and he wasn't exactly ugly or deformed. He was just... wimpy.

"What are your intentions towards Percy?" He asked, deciding to cut to the chase. He wanted to hear what he had to say in his defence.

Ryker Lieris
What are you intentions towards Percy? Taken back by the question, Ryker blinked slightly. His posture, though still curled downwards, relaxed somewhat.

"I'm...I just want to be her friend?" Ryker answered, slightly confused at the elder's question. His intentions toward Percy? It almost sounded like this wolf was expecting him to be more to Percy. But they'd only meet once before and while they'd gotten along, the girl was just his friend. Besides, though the young wolf knew wolves could love each other like his parents, he didn't quite understand love outside of the love of family yet. "I mean, we got along okay when we meet so I figure that's what we are."

Ryker then wondered why his name saying was familiar with the man saying "So you're Ryker?" As if he had already meet him.

"Y-yes?"
Ryker answered the question, still confised. "Did Percy mention me to you?" It wouldn't be too much of a jump to assume that was the case, if this was Percy's home, like the other had confirmed. And that made Ryker feel happy. He'd found Percy's home and knew how to get there so he could visit more often without worrying he was intruding on another wolf's family.

There was one question floating around in Ryker's mind and the young boy opened his mouth to ask it.

"Are you one of her parents? Or one of the others of the pack?" Feeling a small burst of confidence (but mostly unbridled curiosity) Ryker half blurted out the question. He couldn't be Icicle, since Ryker imagined with a name like that, the wolf would have a paler coat. What was the other names Percy had said? Adelyade? But that was a girl's name... "Cause Percy did mention a few names to me but she was polite enough to introduce herself at least, when we meet."

He just wanted to be her friend? That was a rather innocent desire. Not that he expected something dastardly and devious from the kid, sure Askan was suspicious of most strangers but he wasn't paranoid. He wasn't always looking over his shoulder and he didn't assume that everyone was out to get him and those he cared about. So yeah, he did believe the kid, his intentions were pure. But be that as it may, Askan wasn't going to break out into a smile and go easy on the Notch kid.  It wasn't in his nature, but at the same time he wasn't going to deny anything either. What would be the point in that? Besides, he was an honest wolf, blunt but honest nonetheless.

"Yeah she did." Askan told him, fondly recalling that conversation. Not that it showed on his scowly face."Said you ate berries together. She didn't mention me? Hmph, thought she would have." He muttered, a little bitter.

It seemed as though this kid didn't know all that much about his neighbours. Which was understandable, Askan supposed. Percy didn't know all that much about the other packs, she really didn't show all that much interest in them. She had much better things to do, apparently, such as waking Askan up from a well needed nap. Was he still bitter? Not quite, he had gotten his own back by now, but he wasn't going to forget what had happened any time soon. He clung onto things like that, he had a petty soul like a grumpy old man.

"I'm her friend, Askan. Second of Wild Rye Fields." He told him easily enough, after all it was information he deserved to know.

His next words ,however, were a little too blunt for Askan's tastes. He deserved to be scolded, after all he was being rather impolite, but he didn't see it that way. A kid, insulting him with a coy little jab? Oh no he didn't appreciate that.  By no means was Ryker as brash and bold as his Father, but Askan had seen a spark in his bright blue eyes, a possibility that perhaps one day... The world didn't need another Gent. And Askan wasn't sure whether he liked the idea of Percy being friends with such a wolf. But it wasn't exactly his choice was it? She was free woman, not quite yet fully grown, but still capable of choosing who she wanted to associate herself with. Whether he liked it or not, she was free do as she pleased.

"No need to be snippy kid." He warned, his eyes narrowing in annoyance. "I'll send you packing if you're going to be an ass."

Ryker Lieris
Lowering his ears when Askan warned him about being too snippy or else he's send his ass packing, Ryker felt a little bad for his tone.

"I'm sorry," Ryker apologized towards the older wolf. He didn't wish to be rude to the other, because it felt like if Askan really did decide to, he'd make it difficult for Ryker to see his friend. "I don't mean to be so rude." And he was being truthful. He honestly didn't mean to be and hoped askan would accept his apology. "Percy...She's my first friend outside of my two sisters so I don't really want to lose her."

When the bush was mentioned, Ryker nodded. "We met cause I wanted some time away from my sisters and we came across the same berry bush. There was a bunch of crows trying to eat them so Percy scattered some for them." Settling into a more relaxed posture, and hoped Askan wouldn't take it as anything else. "We just got talking as we ate from the bush. Percy mentioned a few of her family but not everyone."

"So Wild Rye Fields is your home?" Ryker decided to ask him a question, tilting his head slightly out of curiosity.

Askan Selwyn

At least the kid- once again- had the smarts to be sorry about his sass. If this had been Percy, he wouldn't have gotten an apology, or at least it wouldn't have been offered so easily. He would have had to work for it. Bit of a pushover, wasn't he this kid? But then he went onto explain why he was so eager to please and Askan felt like he understood him a little better. He was hardly going to deny Percy from seeing a friend, not that it was really in his power to, but the kid before him certainly seemed to think he was. So Askan supposed he might as well settle his nerves and put Ryker at ease.

"Don't sweat it. I won't stop you from seeing her, after all you're her berry husband, right? I ain't got the right to do that." He explained, pressing his lips thin so he didn't break out into a smile. "No wolf has. Wolves who eat berries, stay together. Forever."

Maybe he was being a little mean by dragging this out and extending the joke to Ryker. But really, what was the harm in it? Kids were so gullible, he couldn't miss a chance like this. His sisters had toyed with him as a pup and he'd never had the chance to do it in turn. So he was taking up this moment to do it now, whilst he could.

"And yeah, I'm a Rye wolf. There's more to our lands than just the field though, we got some woodlands too and the creek." It was all pretty harmless information, so he felt as though it was safe to share.
