Slide by the Goo Goo Dolls @Lachesis only please

Her tail still lashed from side to side, her fur bristling along her spine as she was ever so kindly escorted back home by a wolf she really would have preferred to have left her alone. She just couldn’t win and the burning was only intensifying – she still had no idea why, but it was like that one itch you sometimes get where the longer you leave it, the more it bothers you until you finally scratch it. “What th’fuck is yer problem?” She finally snapped with another growl, her electric blue gaze mentally stabbing him repeatedly with a very sharp stick.

Why did he have to interfere? Was he purposefully trying to cause her physical and mental pain? She swore she felt like she was going insane, and her behavior certainly suggested it.  But no, because Mr. Save-the-Day couldn’t keep his nose out of her business. She hadn’t been considering the consequences, or the fact that she had no real right to act on these behaviors – she was not alpha, Kisla was. Despite her displeasure, she would wait for an answer, freezing in her tracks before they reached the border to stare him down. If he wanted to go on, he could go without her until he explained himself. She was not a child and she refused to let him treat her like such.

Stupid, stupid, stupid.

The alpha should not have followed the blue-eyed sparrow out of Hearthwood, nor should he have tried to restrain her within their borders. With both Kisla and her daughters also going through heat, it had been the stupidest thing he could have done, but he had acted irrationally. The ghost had wanted to keep an eye on her, to make sure she did not do anything she would later regret. But he had chosen the wrong method, and now he was paying for it.

He recoiled as she snapped at him, her teeth flashing white as a growl emitted from her chest. Despite his rank, the leader’s ears fell back against his crown, his paws skidding to a halt. Never had XIX heard a cuss word fall from her tongue—while she was a bit of an anxious mess, she was still composed. Or at least, tried to be. “I don’t have a problem,” he hissed in response, a line drawn between his brows. And he didn’t have a problem—at least, he did not think he did. If anything, Lilya was his problem for not listening to him, but he couldn’t say that. Not unless he wanted to keep both ears or his tail.

“I-I,” he started, lamely, his voice much softer than it had been previously, “I’m sorry, Val.” It wasn’t an explanation because he did not know if he could give her one. He didn’t even know why he had acted the way he did in front of that loner. What she did was none of his business… but he wanted it to be. Lachesis had not liked the way that the espresso-coloured wolf had looked at her—like she was a piece of meat, just waiting to be ravaged. The thought made his skin crawl and throat grow tight. He didn’t want to see her with any male… because why? Because he wanted to see her with him?

As soon as the thought entered his mind he dismissed it, his chartreuse gaze focused on the sparrow wolf. No, he couldn’t care for her that way. Every wolf he had felt that strongly about had deserted him; Lachesis could not lose her too.

@Lachesis - Gif coming later when not in school

She felt overly fidgety, like she couldn’t sit still, her eyes flashing around between him and their surroundings, anxious about the idea of being around others… except him. She was still trying to figure out why his presence didn’t bother her like that, even if she was extremely irritated with him at the current moment. He hissed back and her tail lashed faster, trying to keep a lid on things because if she didn’t, she couldn’t really guarantee what would happen. He thought better of scolding her again as she paced around, back and forth, unable to stay still for one minute.

He started to apologize, her brushing her fur against a tree as she paced, trying to shake this feeling which was legitimately starting to concern her. She was noticing hints of her behavioral changes, though not quite the severity of them all. She was better off far from here – but this was her family now and she couldn’t leave, and it wasn’t exactly like she was allowed to leave, anyway. “No, not good ‘nough.” She snapped again, her paws digging in the ground, trying to stay still but her limbs started to shake slightly when she did so her pacing resumed. “Whatre ya doin’, Lach? What game are ya playin’ ‘ere?” She needed a reason for his seemingly bipolar behavior.

She didn’t know what she felt. She knew what she felt in that moment, but she couldn’t be sure if it was actually her rather than the season affecting her brain and their friendship.

He knew it wasn’t good enough, but the words wouldn’t come. The ghost did not know how to explain himself without angering he sparrow further. He was still trying to figure out why he had acted the way he did, and he knew that Lilya wasn’t going to leave him alone until he gave a justifiable reason for his actions.

Chartreuse gaze followed her as she paced, his heart thumping erratically in his chest. His blue-eyed friend spoke once more, her tongue spitting out venom between them. “I’m not playing any game, Val!” He growled in response, his ears pinned forward. He did not know what he was doing. Lachesis was positive that it was just a side-effect of the season and their close friendship. The alpha knew how the sparrow was and about the demons that still plagued her thoughts periodically. He couldn’t stand to see her get hurt, physically or mentally, because of something she couldn’t control.

“I j-just…” he started, tone much softer than it had been previously, “I don’t want you to get hurt.” His thoughts were finally voiced aloud despite his apple-green gaze was focused on the ground between them. “I-I…” Stop. The words hesitated on the tip of his tongue, his skin crawling. The ghost took a hesitant step forward, his pale gaze softening as it finally fell onto her agouti frame. XIX did not stop until he was just a tails-length away from her, his ears pressed to the back of his skull, his veins pulsing at the thought of being so close to her. “I couldn’t…” he tried, tongue suddenly dry as he tried to choke his thoughts out, “… c-couldn’t stop myself. I saw you with him, and I…” Stupid. She was surely going to rip his face off now. Fuck. He cursed aloud, unexpectedly, for perhaps the first time in his four years of life. He took a step back, giving her space, the white hot feeling of embarrassment washing over him. Forget it. Just forget it. Do what you want, Val.” He shrugged, a frown cutting into his pale maw as he took another step back. He didn’t want her to do whatever she wanted. No, for some bizarre reason he wanted her to stay with him. And he felt foolish for thinking that way.

She couldn’t explain it, and really everything was jumbled in her head as she tried to sort things out. Her heart felt like it was going to beat on of her chest, her fur achingly hot despite the colder weather still being settled in along the north – so much so she just wanted to roll around in a lake to cool down. I’m not playing any game, Val! Part of her recognized the fact that he wasn’t while a different part of her did not believe it… it was just frustrating and she was projecting her problems onto her friend and she really shouldn’t be.

There was some semblance of sanity lingering in her eyes at his words, looking down at her paws for a few moments as he tried to continue on with his explanation, managing to get something out and that was confusion really tore into her. “W-Wh-What?” She questioned, her tone softer as her mood shifted yet again. He took a few steps back, sending yet another mixed signal as he cursed. Funny enough, she’d never heard anything that remotely assembled a curse from his maw before.

She felt heat rise to her cheeks, and she wasn’t entirely sure why… well, she knew why, she was just sort of in denial still. Forget it. Too late – he’d said it, and she couldn’t forget it. With his next step back, she took another step forward. Even in the state she was in, she cared about her friends, even when they irritated the fuck out of her. “Lach…” Her voice trailed, and she found herself at a loss for words.

She was slowly calming herself down, breathing in through the snout and out through the muzzle before she finally found the words for him. “Ah can’t do what Ah want.” Well, that wasn’t very subtle, and she found herself starting to fidget a little again, looking at her paws though her icy eyes couldn’t make eye contact with him, especially not if he didn’t get it or he reacted the way she was fairly certain he was going to.

HAHAAHAHA RIP ME HAHAHAAHAHAA @Lilya

He shouldn’t have followed her to begin with. He shouldn’t even be following her now. The ghost was only infuriating her further and driving her away—the complete opposite of what he wanted. His tail slashed back and forth in anger, apple-green eyes focused everywhere but on the sparrow. Even as she said his name he forced his gaze to the ground, dismissing her voice with a gentle roll of his shoulders. He regretted all the words that had tumbled off his tongue, but it was useless; they had already stained the air. They had already been heard. There was no retracting them now. His stomach was in knots and suddenly the medic felt nauseous. “No, no, he started, his head shaking softly, “forget it. Please. Lachesis wanted to turn away, leave her to do what she pleased, but he couldn’t. Despite already taking a few steps away from her, he was rooted to the spot, a heavy weight forming in his stomach.

Her voice lulled him from his thoughts, filling his head; consuming him. Perplexed, his heart thumping in his chest, XIX finally looked at her. Apple-green met cerulean and suddenly he couldn’t breathe. His ears perked up as he stepped forward, hesitantly, his head falling slightly to the right. “What do— “ a step forward, eyes still focused on her “—you—” another step, his nose now just inches away from hers “—want?”

Lachesis didn’t even know what he wanted. The ghost was beginning to understand, with each moment that his pale eyes lingered on her, he was beginning to realize why he was acting this way. But he couldn’t tell if it was from all the hormones in the air, or if it was him. If he had felt this way all along. Perhaps he had repressed it because of his luck with the opposite sex. Everyone always left. XIX was beginning to realize how important the blue-eyed sparrow was to him, and the thought of having her leave too… it made the weight growing in his stomach even heavier.

Neither of them were leaving, both drawn to the exact same place. She wasn’t sure if he was there because of discomfort or obligation… his words, he was trying to shake off whatever it was and pass it off as nothing but she wouldn’t take it. It was too late – she heard things and she took it to heart, overanalyzed them. She was more sensitive than she let on and that said something, because most of the time she was extremely sensitive. She finally met his eye, and it felt heavy. She could hear the beating of her heart through her ears as they twitched, that question daring as he stepped forward, tilting his head as her tail slowly wagged behind her.

What did she want?

“You.” She whispered softly, hints of nerves striking her just for fear of his reaction. She didn’t know for sure if this was just the season talking, or if this was something else – something that she’d been denying for a while now. She’d run once before – she’d fought and seen others die… she couldn’t leave behind those she cared about. She made that mistake once and she was still paying the price for it. It’d taken a physical toll on her and he, as a healer and her friend, knew that, though not details leading up to the damage that had been done.

“Lach, I want you.”

can u feel the love tonight starts playing in background

You.

He blinked, dumbfounded. That he had not been expecting. It was the answer that he did not know he had been hoping. It had to be spring—all those stupid, stinky hormones—causing her to be like this. There was no way she could feel that way about him… they were friends; he couldn’t lose that. But i could be so much more. Despite the doubt that burned furiously within his chest, his heart still soared. His cheeks flushed crimson beneath his alabaster fur as she spoke once more, confirming the single word spoken previously. Slowly a faint smile cracked his composed exterior as he bumped her chin with his nose before pressing his forehead into her chest. “I’m all yours, Val,” he murmured into her fur, breathing in the intoxicating scent that radiated off her. Whether it was just for now, or continued after the spring madness began to dissipate, he meant it.

Whether or not she intended this—whatever it was—to be long term, Lachesis did not care. Not now, at least. He would worry about that later once he was alone, and most likely lose sleep over it.

Removing his forehead from her fur XIX trailed his back along her chin before stopping at her shoulder, his nose resting in the small of her back. Despite the warmth that spread through his body, XIX couldn’t stop the fear bubbling up from deep inside his chest. The ghost had an awful track record of being abandoned—by both significant others and friends. His heart could only take so much before it collapsed on itself and losing Lilya… he did not know if he would recover from that. Just don’t leave, he whispered suddenly as he nipped at her shoulder affectionately despite the frown that he wore.

Lowkey jamming to Piece by Piece by Kelly Clarkson while writing this...

Lilya didn’t like to take things fast – she was hesitant in nature, and because of that, she’d shut the idea of actually finding someone from her mind, focusing on her duties, or running away from her demons… anything but the actual future. Perhaps that was why it’d taken her that long to see what was right in front of her, no matter how infuriating he’d been lately. His nose bumped her chin, her grin growing wide and warm as his forehead pressed against her chest, her nose softly nuzzling at the fur along the side of his neck. I’m all yours, Val. Her heart was racing, funny enough it was the medic making it beat out of her chest. Val… that was his nickname, and no one elses.

The feeling was euphoric, and it just felt right. The fusillade of emotions and silent confessions seemed to be winding down, Lilya having little left to say until those words entered her ears, his smile turning into a soft frown with him. She let her tongue glide along his neck up to near his ear in an attempt to reassure him. “Ah can’t imagine bein' anywhere else.” She promised softly. The River was her home now. It had been for months and would continue to be until they didn’t want her around anymore… “Ah’m 'ere as long as you'll put up with me.” She murmured that promise with no hesitance as she nipped at his coat.
