Drestig Avalon
@Laike <3 - Set ~10 weeks after the injury

He was almost sure this should be going so slowly. Granted, he was no medic, nor had he ever had an injury like this, but surely it couldn’t be right that he was still to rest? He could walk alright now, took a lot longer before he got tired anyway, but he still felt weak. He wanted back to his borders, back to his life! Sphinx was still lost, and with no adults to spare, he had been forced to send Gale out to their allies, asking for aid. Now two of his children were out in the world on their own. Three... And he was supposed to what? Relax, take time!

Growling lowly in his frustration, the Rye king lifted his head from the morsel he had been picking at, not feeling hungry in the least. In front of him lay his beloved Fields, their golden glory buried under a large weight of snow. Along the creek - just a uniform dip, completely covered in snow - a path hard been carved by wolves coming and going, heading for the Gateway or Lookout. But other than that, there was little trace of anyone living here, not a soul in sight or sound to be heard. Drestig sighed heavily, feeling tired to his very bones; Spring… Seems So far away..!

LAIKE ARTEMIEVA

He did his best to wear his burdens with his usual stoic features. The large male had his own slice of life to worry about but lately, he had added things to worry about. He consoled @Adelayde when she fretted over wayward children, made sure borders were heavily marked to make up for those busy with the injured leader and did his best to make sure no mouths went hungry despite his lacking hunting skills. Laike was not going to make anyone pick up the slack or ask for help when he could shoulder it himself.

Or when he could at least try to shoulder it all himself.

With a huff he padded slowly through the snow expanse, eager to make his way back to communal area. Perhaps he'd catch sight of his love or even exchange small talk with another member. His time in Rye had expanded his small talk skills for the sake of maintaing bonds. But there on the horizon was the peppered spot of Drestig and there was something akin to hope in Laike's chest. The more the older man moved about the more it meant he was recovering.

The large second picked up his pace, tail waving in a neutral position. "Sir." He rumbled warmly as he halted away at an appropriate distance. "Everything okay?" Briefly his orange gaze trailed to look out where Drestig had been looking. Had he missed something on his patrol?

And then all of a sudden, a figure appeared out of the snow, having been camouflaged by his pale fur. Ember eyes widened in surprise, then followed the young man as he traced that same trail, quickly moving closer. It was only when he veered off that Drestig realized he too had been spotted, brows knitting into a frown. He had no time to retreat before Laike addressed him, making a subtle escape impossible. “Don’t call me sir!” He snapped, looking away from that searching orange gaze and down at his paws. Another deep sigh was emitted, making his shoulders sag, ears drooping forwards. “Sorry,” he muttered, forcing his eyes back up to meet the other’s; “I didn’t mean to snarl at you, just… Drestig is fine, alright?” His voice was rough, a hint of embarrassment edging it; It’s not his fault…

He wished it was someone’s fault, that there was someone he could blame for everything. It would make his own guilt a whole lot easier to bare. But alienating his pack mates was about the worst thing he could do right now, he knew he had Laike and Adelayde to thank for the pack surviving. He shook his head, a humorless smile parting his lips. “It’s… rough,” he admitted, looking out over the Fields again; “I’ve never had to stay still for this long, and at a time like this…” Teeth clenching, he shifted in spot to try and find a more comfortable position for his stiff leg. He hated feeling so helpless! It was even worse than with Percy, at least back then he’d been able to go out and search the Lowlands; All this REST is driving me nuts!
