Lumi Spitfire
(Lumi has not yet crossed boarders)

It hadn't been easy to say the least, but with struggle Lumi had followed the deer herd. They were trickery and more agile than the caribou and often times she thought she had lost them. Still she had managed to follow their trail far away from January and hopes of doubling back had vanished. Now she just clung to the idea of staying near these strange caribou-like creatures. Lumi had discovered she couldn't get as close to them as the Caribou otherwise they'd flee.

From spending all this time with the small herd she had figured out who was who. There was the older doe who led, the younger doe that was often off with the two yearling does, and then an ancient buck. He was large with one mighty twelve point antler remaining on his head, the other he had shed not too far back, and being fortunate, Lumi had been able to see him loose it. Now she carried it with her to show her brother and cousin whenever she managed to reunite with them. However, being her first heat, the girl had taken some frustration out on the poor thing and chewed it up to some extent.

Now Lumi lay only a few yards away from the herd, hidden between a group of tree trunks. The old male deer had been acting funny the past two or three days, and Lumi wondered if he was dying. Surely he was old with how big those spikey things on his head had become. Mindlessly she chewed away at the antler between her paws watching as he briefly stumbled. Perhaps her following them would pay off. Scavenging leftover kills here and there along the way was not really keeping her weight on.

Lumi's attention drifted as the older doe, who still seemed younger than the buck, called out softly to the other three does. With the call they were off on the move again, but slower than normal. It seemed the others had lessened their pace in favor to the old buck.

After awhile Lumi could smell it, this strange stench of many many wolves. Why had they gathered here? What was this? She became wary, unsure if she should continue to follow the deer. Thankfully the lead doe halted, tail flagging. Lumi waited and watched to see if they would dart off. She prepared herself to chase after them. One of the does looked to her, but oddly enough did not start. She was perhaps closer to them than normal. Were these strange caribou-like creatures becoming used to her? She wasn't sure how long she had followed them at this point. With the buck having such mighty head spikes and a bad attitude, she had learned them taking off wasn't the only cost of getting to close. She had managed to not get hurt before, but that didn't mean she could risk anything. The two year old took a few steps back from the herd, losing the does interest.

The lead doe slowly, calmly, but with tail flagged, started to lead the group away from the possible threat. Lumi looked to the strange scent marker's location, noted the forest's density here and stored it in her memory, then twisted herself around to follow the herd.

Hawthorne Selwyn
guardian demonstration 1/3

Hawthorne had cleaned up her act some after bothering that boy in the northern woods. She minded her own business, did her job when needed, so on and so forth. It was a brief slip up on her end and she wanted to make that clear to @Askan. She was finally on the verge of being some kind of grown-up (yearling really but it was better than this pup thing) which meant she could not risk being kicked from the Edge - not when she was finally about to really start proving her worth.

So she hovered near the borders like a vulture most days. She marked them like everyone else, made it real clear to any passerby that there was a crowd of them here who wouldn't take trespassers lightly. There were two scents on the wind in the woods that stirred her from her thoughts. One seemed promising, one she was sure that the pack could tend to later. The second was another wolf that felt a little too close to home.

Her hackles raised as she moved around a few trees, catching sight of the small female. Hawthorne was pleasingly larger than the stranger thanks to being a near yearling. She halted only about a yard away from the girl and let out a growl, her ebony lips pulling back to expose her teeth.

The message was clear. "Get lost."

Lumi Spitfire
Lumi of course followed after the herd, deer antler firmly in her grasp. With the buck being so weak now she was sure he would give out any day and her efforts would be worth the work. If were to get better though, Lumi had no problem following them until January or Olwen found her. It was something to keep her occupied after all, and the closest thing to being like back to home. Next to the large expanse they had come from.

Lumi trailed behind the deer with distance, not wanting to startle them or anger the buck again. She had learned her lesson, even if she managed to not get hurt. The growl drew the girl's ears pack, her head turning quickly to look at the larger wolf. Just as quickly she looked back to the herd. Spooked by the menacing sound they had taken off away from the pack, causing Lumi to panic. "Now look what you've done!" She said in a hushed like yell between clenched teeth, the antler effecting her speech. "Why would you do that?" She asked more to herself than the female. Looking at the ebony girl it seemed she wanted Lumi gone for whatever reason, and the girl snapped her response "Oh we're definitely on our way now sour pants."

Spurring into action Lumi started to run after the herd, wide eyes scanning the scenery for the buck. He was slower than the rest, so she could follow him with more ease, but he was still running. And through all these dang trees! The young woman was careful not to catch the antler in her mouth on something, all the more slowing her down. Her speed was caught somewhere between a run and a trot.

@Hawthorne

He hadn’t seen much of his greyscale friend since the meeting, which made the boy feel odd and out of place. Had they run the course of their friendship already now that they were nearing their first birthdays? Was this where they distanced themselves from each other? A frown caused his dark features to furrow, his ears sweeping back against his skull. If that was the case… did he stay in the shallows? The thought of leaving was tempting. To see the rest of Lore; all the colours. But he couldn’t do that to the Edge lords—not after everything they had done for him. He did not want them to think he used them throughout the colder months for food and a place to sleep.

A sigh escaped him as he moved forward through the trees, his paws dragging along the cold ground. Hawthorne’s scent was stronger along the borders, beckoning him forward, but he hung back. Maybe he had spent too much time with her and she’d grown tired of him. Sachiel would probably be sick of himself too if he was her.

It was only the scent of another that lured the boy away from his path and toward the silver girl. But the stranger and his packmate weren’t alone. There were deer lurking at the borders, too. His nose twitched, hesitation causing his steps to falter. No—this wasn’t one of the loners he and Askan had encountered before.

Good.

The loner had shouted at Hawthorne, causing his steps to quicken. Idiot. Were the borders not marked heavily enough? Were loners unaware of the pack’s presence? His mismatched eyes rolled in their sockets as he launched himself forward. The female was chasing the deer—how foolish! A low growl hummed in the back of his throat as he propelled himself past his greyscale friend, his gangly legs pumping furiously beneath him to catch up to the older female. He lunged for the antler grasped firmly between her jaws, his teeth seeking its smooth surface in order to pull the female to the ground. Or get it away from her. If not, he would try shoving her next. These deer were on Edge territory; they did not belong to some dumb loner.

Hawthorne Selwyn
guardian demonstration 2/3

She snapped her teeth feverishly at the small female's words. Hawthorne was going to make her intentions clear to the girl but before she could there was a familiar tawny form charging past her. She stood back for a moment, admiring her companion and how he seemed to take charge. There was a warm feeling that spread in her chest. She didn't know what it meant but the feeling certainly wasn't a bad one.

Then she regained control of her feelings again and chased after the duo, trying her best to keep up with their speedier forms. She needed to be there for her partner if anything went wrong. The deer was the last of her concerns at the moment. They could be dealt with later (if they didn't flee the scene all together) after this loner learned a bit of respect.

Lumi Spitfire
(Lumi falls, but on the ground tries to make Sachiel fall down by first tugging at then suddenly releasing the antler.)

There! There he was! Lumi could see the buck's staggering form as he struggled to keep up with the herd.

Then it happened. Quickly. Completely unexpected. Lumi watched the world spin suddenly, her small frame falling to the ground in an awkward twisting motion. She held tight to the antler at first, pulling, then released it hoping he would fall backwards. Then she hasitly rose back up onto her paws tail tucked and ears back. Her teeth bared nervously but not inherently in an aggressive manner, pink tongue licking her nose.

"What was that for? Please leave me alone, I told you that we're leaving and that was what we were doing. Why are you stoping me?" Lumi spoke while backing away from him and the joining female, rambling with fear. "I don't want no trouble with you two, I'm just tracking the herd until my brother finds me..." No, Lumi didn't think she owned the herd, but she sure thought it was her only way to getting found. Owlen knew her well, surely he would know she would follow them, and when he found the herd he'd find her. Then they could take the buck down...but that didn't matter now. What did these two want so badly? The herd? They could have a deer if they wanted...but not the whole herd. She needed them in order to be found.

They were clearly pack wolves, but what did they want? Why did they make this land so smelly? Where was their caribou herd and why weren't they following it? "Please let me go, they'll leave and I'll have to find them all over again. I've been following them for days...from...a huge lowland to these...many trees here." she pleaded with them.

He hadn’t really taken into account how strong he had gotten. He lurched forward as she fell to the ground, her neck craned as she pulled back in an attempt to make him tumble with her, but he was sent stumbling backward as she suddenly released the antler. Nearly falling on his rump the boy struggled to find his footing, mismatched eyes fixated on her pale frame. He gave his head a quick shake as he steadied himself, a low rumble rubbling from deep within his chest. She started rambling, earning a frown from the agouti. Something about we—was she talking about herself and the herd? He exhaled sharply through his nose. Who said the herd belonged to her? His growls grew louder as he flung the antler between his jaws into the trees, away from her.

These deer are on pack territory. Ours. They do not belong to you, he hissed, his tail arched above his back as he took a threatening step toward her. Find somewhere else to hunt and other deer to follow. He didn’t care how long she’d been trailing them for. She was dangerously close to hunting on pack land and out of the wolves she could have encountered the duo were the nicest.

She caught up with their tumbling forms as she slid to a halt. The words of the female mattered little to the peppered Edge wolf. Her jaws opened to snap in a harsh warning. While her tawny companion took on a dominant stance, Hawthorne's stance seemed more prepared to fight. The fur along her neck raised as she lowered her head so that it would evenly line up with her back.

Go back to the lowlands, you are not welcomed here. She hissed with venom dripping off her words. The stranger was most certainly not welcomed and that was a fact Hawthorne was willing to stand by. The loner had not made her presence known by call and she had the brains to try to track a herd through pack territory. Her parted jaws were ready to seek the small female's skin should she not heed the warning from either of the Edge wolves. The peppered female was more than ready to do the dirty work that her partner likely wouldn't.

Sachiel did not understand the fixation loners had with hunting near the Edge borders. Were their scent markers not strong enough? Frequent enough? Were they not doing a good job at patrolling? The latter didn’t appear to be the case, considering the agouti boy (and his silver partner) always seemed to be crossing paths with wolves lurking too close, which left Sachiel feeling perplexed. It had been months since the Edge wolves had settled; surely it couldn’t be lack of knowledge attracting the loners to their borders.

He took another threatening step closer to her, an unfamiliar, deep growl rolling from within his chest. You heard her, he snarled, leave. We don’t want you here. If she wasn’t going to leave on her own terms they would do it for her. Sachiel had no problems with dragging her away from the Edge borders.
