Askan Selwyn

That was... a good question actually. His first thought was to explain what the other Selwyns did, his kin, those who had all sorts of achievements under their belt. But they didn't really matter anymore, did they? They were all dead, but even if that wasn't the case their accolades wouldn't amount to much here. Besides, Askan had never been one to brag about his family name. Indeed, he thought it was worth something, but worth was shown through deeds rather than words. In time he would show Sachiel and Hawthorne what it meant to be a Selwyn.

He didn't even have time to respond, as Hawth soon chipped in with her own conclusion. Askan liked to think he was a restrained, serious individual, but really his sense of humour was far more pronounced than he'd ever admit. He couldn't help but laugh. Not loud and curt, like he had no shame, but earnest none the less. Almost carefree, as though he'd reverted back into the carefree pup he'd once been.

Shit though, she wasn't wrong. And that squint of hers? It was pretty damn on point.Pulling in a calming breath, he shook his head as he tugged at his few remaining threads of decorum. Even then he didn't let his smile die, for he was content.

"Something like that." He then cleared his throat, Askan supposed he ought to give them some food for thought."Selwyns...They do what needs to be done, what they must." He paused, to look between Hawthorne and Sachiel. "Don't worry too much about it, I know you already have what it takes. Wouldn't have offered otherwise."

Sachiel Leigh Selwyn

his own attempt at the iconic Selwyn squint. Naturally it did not work out as planned, as it was nearly impossible to wipe the lighthearted expression from his tawny features. Especially when their Edge Lord emitted his own laugh—a rare sound from the typically stoic leader. The boy gently knocked his shoulder against Hawthorne’s as he returned his attention to the older Selwyn, his tail sweeping against the ground as he waited for Askan’s response to his question. He didn’t know much about his own family—his birth family. Not until his grandmother arrived, frail and dripping in shades of periwinkle, on the shallows’ doorstep. Even then, Sachiel was oblivious when it came to his extended family. But he didn’t really care—not anymore. Reyes, Askan, and Pumpkin Eyes had become his family; they were all he needed now. Mostly the latter.

They do what needs to be done, what they must.

The agouti boy nodded curtly in response, the corners of his mouth tightening as he adopted a more serious expression. He liked that Askan thought of him—them—as Selwyn’s. Despite the joy that swelled deep within his chest Sachiel found himself at a loss for words. A strange concept for the sharp-tongued boy. He blinked, his brows tightening as he struggled to find something to say. His tongue felt blue-black. His mismatched eyes quickly fell to the ground as he tried to mask his bashfulness with indifference.

Feel like goin' for a Selwyn patrol? He asked as he finally raised his gaze, his hindlegs uncoiling from the ground as he took a step away from the duo. The talk has grown serious and Sachiel wasn't good with serious. He liked to keep moving; keep his head distracted. Without waiting for them to chime in he bounded away with a playful flick of his tail, a wide smile tugging at his lips as he trailed through the trees... he did not doubt that they would catch up with him soon... especially Pumpkin Eyes.

Fade.
