The future was ever changing, but she did not doubt there would be plenty of new mouths to feed. She felt a jolt of bitterness for it. She wanted more than the Dell had given her. Was this place really different from it? She would be expected to take on more responsibility but what benefit would she reap?
A huff of disgust, she dug her toes into the cold mud. For a moment she tried to concentrate on the sensation. Tried to get the feeling to leave her and dissipate to the earth. Whelps, even not her own, were a blessing. New ones to teach, and she couldn't deny they would be special. There would be possibility. It wasn't enough. She could not cast her resentment aside. Again, she'd failed to center herself. To clear her mind, and wash out the impurities. There were other things she should do. Could try but in the moment her patience was thin and t here was a lure of blood on the air. Weak prey. Something she knew how to handle.
