Revon Argyris Archer
all welcome, open to 1-2 more | afternoon, light drizzle

It almost felt strange being home. She was a mountain wolf, through and through, but she had … enjoyed? time spent in the forest below. When she wasn’t petrified of getting murdered or eaten, of course. Nothing, however, could compare to the open expanse of the mountain. Not a bunch of ugly tree branches or weird lagoons. The mountain would always be her home, but the gentle gnaws of wanderlust were difficult to ignore.

Since her return the scarlet Archer seldom descended from the mountain. Mostly so her parents wouldn’t worry, as they only just stopped hovering, but also because her mother was expecting. Apparently Revon was getting some younger siblings. She didn’t really understand how or why (nor did she want to know), but she was happy nonetheless. It was going to be nice having some younger playmates, as the rest of the Aurora wolves were all older than she was. Not that she minded, but being serious all the time was hella boring.

She shuffled along the rocky terrain, a soft frown tracing her russet features. The sky was grey overhead, dark and looming above her gangly frame. She begun to worry that the snow would return once more, drenching the heights in a thick blanket. Instead, the firefox was greeted by a soft drizzle of rain—a much nicer surprise. Her movements paused, slender nose pointed toward the sky.

She wondered if Wendigo would have liked the mountain rain. While their meeting had been unconventional and resulted in the girl going missing for weeks, she had grown to enjoy his company. After he’d decided to return her to the mountain. He had attempted to redeem himself, but the redemption came too late. She should’ve forced him to stay at the base of the mountain, as she knew her parents wouldn’t listen to him. And, while the girl also knew that her father hadn’t meant to send the dark yearling off the side of the mountain, she knew that Wendigo’s fate had been decided for him the moment he stepped onto the heights.

A sigh escaped her as she continued along the stone path, her tail swaying slowly behind her...

doot doot sahalie potato coming in hot.

As much as she would have liked to settle down for a nap that she direly needed, all the pent up anxiety of the coyotes on their tail made it impossible to keep her eyes closed. Sure, she was safe here, but it didn't matter if she didn't feel safe. Kyna and her wolves were trustworthy, but Sahalie had changed a lot in the last year. It was not that she didn't trust them, just that she really wanted to trust herself, see it all for herself because that would be the only way to calm the rioting thoughts. Just a walk around the border, she told herself, just to check that they were well maintained and strong enough to keep a coyote out. There was no one to take with her because Kyna and Alastor were busy tending to her foolhardy mate's shoulder. So she went alone.

What could go wrong?

Only, Aurora Heights was not as big a pack as Oak Tree Bend or Whitestone Monadnock or Quaking Vale (in her/its' heyday) and obviously it took a lot of effort and constant upkeep to maintain the borders. With less wolves it was just harder to make sure it all smelled like Aurora Heights. And when it began to rain she was basically done in, since the area was so unfamiliar. Without even realizing it Sahalie had wandered straight out of the pack territory and back out into the inhospitable Heights.

But she thought she was still in the territory since she eventually ran into a wolf. From a quick assessment Sahalie could see she was young—lanky like a coyote, but tall—and her coat was bright even in the rain. Sahalie didn't even need to catch her gaze to know what color her eyes would have been, because it just felt like she was staring into the past. "Are you Revon?" she called from a safe distance, her tail respectfully and gently wafting the air at her ankles.

She didn’t mind the rain. It had been awhile since she had felt the soft drizzle of mountain rain, as she had spent weeks beneath a forest canopy. Despite the ache in the pit of her stomach the scarlet Archer was happy to be home; where she belonged. Her paws dragged along the stone as she continued her lazy patrol, her shoulders hunched over as she glanced around the territory. Nothing appeared out of the normal. There were no foreign scents on the wind; no strange figures in the distance. It was as though nothing had changed during her absence. As though everything had hit pause after her disappearance. It wasn’t bad, but she didn’t know how to feel about it either.

It was, at that moment, when her lonely patrol gained an audience of one. The scent reached her before the voice, causing her fiery gaze to lift from the stone and settle on the chocolate-coloured female. Her sides were swollen like her mother’s, leading the girl to believe that she was pregnant as well, but what was she doing alone? Are you Revon? Her nose twitched. Who’s askin’? She retorted as her creamy paws stopped, a small frown creasing her scarlet features.

asks for thread and then never replies to u whoops

It was weird seeing Kyna's face take that sort of tone with her. Kyna had never been so bold as a young girl, she'd been a wall flower trying desperately to find any soil to grow in. There was nothing wrong with the way her daughter was speaking to her now, but it certainly gave Sahalie a startle. Ultimately, she reminded herself that it would be equally weird for someone you'd never seen before to walk right up to you and guess your name. She had not been given a "yes," but she had also not really been asking. Blinking a few times, she shrugged and smiled. "I'm an old friend of Kyna's. We were dumb kids together."

Except, really, Sahalie was still a dumb kid.

"I met you when you were very young. Or, well. When you weren't even young. Would have been around this time last year." So strange, on how so much changed in so little time. This girl was nearly fully grown.

Old friend, huh? Her nose twitched at the news, but she couldn’t help but smile at the stranger’s next set of words. We were dumb kids together. It was hard to imagine her mother as a dumb kid, as Revon always pictured the scarlet queen to be poised and diplomatic—even as a child. It wasn’t that she believed her mother to be a stick in the mud—quite the opposite, actually. Her mother always appeared so composed and put together; as though she always plotting something. But dumb? Reckless? It was hard to believe. Mom? Dumb kid? She couldn’t help but laugh. Hard to picture that.

She remembered the she-wolf vaguely, but the scarlet girl didn’t remember much from her youth. Little bit of this, little bit of that. Mostly faces, but names… names were a little trickier to pin down.

That trait she had picked up from her father.

Where’d you go then? She hummed, curiosity getting the best of her as her chin canted to the side. The name was on the tip of her tongue—S-something. There was a lee sound somewhere… but she couldn’t… quite… remember…

rip coyotes do you wanna just end this thread prematurely since it kinda old anyway?

Sure, Kyna was always calm and collected and thoughtful as a kid but they were dumb in the way that all kids were. You grew up, and got smarter, but in the meantime they thought pumpkins were a kind of berries and didn't know what eagles were doing when they did the naughty. They thought they understood the adults and now they wore their problems like borrowed clothes. They traipsed up and down the valley and then feared that their kids would do the same thing that they did: stupid things. "Yeah, your mom was smarter than the rest of them. She was always very..mmm... I guess I'd say regal, even when she was little." Even when her paws fell out from under her when they were ice-slipping or when Nalda had fallen in the snow she'd maintained her composure.

"There was some stuff that happened at our old pack—do you know Oak Tree Bend?" They weren't far from it. The girl had probably been near there or someone had mentioned it to her. "Some rank challenge drama and we went our separate ways. Then your mom set up this pack and I set up my own east of here. Not that far from here or Oak Tree Bend. It's not there anymore though. I kinda failed," she shrugged, silently saying "what can you do?" and kept a light smile on her face. It was a lot easier to admit her failure to this kid than all her peers. They all had standards to live up to and expectations they'd set for her and other leaders. She couldn't bare to meet their eyes and discuss these things yet. But this kid was okay.

A shiver ran down her spine as the off-tune "song" of coyotes rang in the air. They weren't close, but Sahalie couldn't be sure they'd stay away. "We should go."

Regal. That was a good word to describe her mother. Her mother was just as graceful as her father, but she carried a radiant energy with her while her father preferred to slink in the shadows. Revon was struggling to master both traits, as she strived to be the perfect mix of both her parents. That sounds more like her, she commented with a soft laugh, her head tipping to the side. It was still hard to believe that her mother had once been a reckless youth… she always seemed so composed and refined… it didn’t seem possible.

Mom’s mom leads the Bend. I’ve never been there, but I’ve heard of 'em before. She didn’t know if she even wanted to visit. The scarlet Archer had only met her grandmother once; would the silver woman even remember her granddaughter? Her expression, however, softened as the chocolate female mentioned that she had formed her own pack; an unsuccessful one. But the failure wasn’t a bad thing—not all packs could succeed. Maybe it’s f’the better, y’know? She offered warmly.

Her fiery gaze only wavered when a strange song filled the sky. The voices did not belong to the wolves of Aurora—no, this was a different type of creature. Coyotes. Immediately the fur on the back of her neck bristled as she took a side-step away from where the sound originated from, despite it sounding like it came from everywhere. Yeah, probably a good idea.
