RE: A pile of bones turns up near your cache, but your stores have gone untouched. Who left it there?
Open for one or two!  Cloudy, 50F/10C

Sure, stranger things had happened. Way stranger. But that didn’t mean Reyes didn’t stop dead in his tracks, slowing dropping the rabbit to his paws at the sight of the new addition to his personal cache. Ears laid back flat as he stepped around but…despite the bones, the stones didn’t seem to be overturned. Nothing had been dug up, so it hadn’t been stolen.

Was it a gift? (A fucking creepy one, anyways.) Was it someone fucking clueless, taking a snack right on top of his personal cache? Sure, it wasn’t within Shallow’s Edge, but it sure wasn’t far.

The wolf growled and dropped his shoulder to the ground, rubbing against with fur and bulk as he tried to mark it back. Get the strange stench off of it.

Lae Lave
a dream within a dream

Despite her white fur, Lae lurked in the shadows like an eager child. A strange malformed grin spread across her features as she watched, her good eye narrowed in satisfaction. She was completely silent. Even her breathing was light, restricted down to a soft whisper. She had followed the man for a while, hiding. She didn't leave the border without reason. She was too old and decrepit to do much moving, but the cold air was helping her bones stay lively. She was a good hider. Her small size kept her concealed, regardless of her blinding fur. It was even better in the winter, when the ground was white. She was untouchable then. For now though, she tried to stay in the shadows, behind trees and other shrubbery.

She didn’t want him to notice her- not yet. She wanted to watch him when he didn’t know she was there, his behaviour felt more genuine then. She could get a better understanding of who he was. He was clearly pack, but Lae had only met other women and Askan. This was a new toy for her to play with.

Reyes

If he could read minds, Reyes would have been horribly offended.

Thankfully, he could not. Instead, he continued to rub his growing coat on the ground, making quite certain that the earth was stamped down and very clearly stank of him. The alpha was just about to begin the process of removing the bones – as he had no idea who put them there, why, or what that could mean, no he isn’t paranoid it’s just a thing – when he realized he was being watched. His ears rolled back, moonlit eyes searching the shade.

It smelled like Shallow’s Edge. Which was a good sign. Probably.

“What do you want?”

OOC: it is totally a-okay!

a dream within a dream

The elderly lady was quiet for a few seconds after his question. She was still, her chest movement the only sign of her alertness. She was not dead, but she was certainly pretending to be- even on all fours. Her gentle, rigid breathing gave her away. She took her time though. For a millisecond she wondered if she should pretend to be deaf, ignore him all together and continue to watch. She wanted to observe him for longer. It was disappointing that he had noticed her so quickly. His words caught her off guard, a strange question. “A drink of water perhaps.”

Her voice was a soft, delicate whisper. “Maybe a nap.” There was no sarcasm in her tone, her eyes were light and happy. She was not trying to be difficult. She had not understood his tone, the sharpness of his question. She assumed he was genuinely interested in her wants. Her tail wagged a little even.

Reyes

It smelled like Shallow’s Edge, but once the older woman emerged, Reyes had to briefly wonder if he was starting to go senile. Or if it were the season. Or no, maybe he was crazy. Or no, maybe Askan was crazy recruiting elderly wolves. His brow furrowed as his mind raced, pale eyes narrowed as he studied the white female. Who the hell--?

Well, why wonder?

“Who th’ fuck are you?” he asked, brows still squinched together. Two surprises back-to-back weren’t exactly his favorite way to start a meeting. But she wagged her tail, and his shoulders dropped a little. So did his ears. “Askan’s recruit, I assume?”

Dios mio, he was getting out of touch.

@Lae -- Unsure if this is an improvement or not.

Lae Lave
a dream within a dream

Lae was starting to sense the annoyance in Reyes’ tone. It caught her off guard, made her tail stop wagging and her ears flatten. She didn’t like to be cursed at, especially when she wasn’t sure what she was doing wrong. It was a little daunting. The hurt was apparent behind her one good eye, shining with possible tear build-up. She didn’t cry, but for a moment it looked like she might be able to. She was old though. The water could easily be mis-identified as goopy eye syndrome (which she also had). “Lae. I am Lae.”

The old lady went through a thousand emotions in a single second. She was incredibly sensitive and out of touch. It was easy for her to wander across the map, start off happy and then become confused, offended, excited, sly, then happy all over again. It had very little to do with Reyes’ attitude, and everything to do with her own emotional functioning. She offered a soft, testing smile. “He didn’t have much say in the matter,” she purred. “If he didn’t let me follow him, he would have left me to die.” Her smile dropped slightly. “That’s a hard thing to do.”
