RE: A herd of caribou has entered the Snowmarch Expanse.
Late morning | 28.4 ° F, -2 ° C | Light Snow

It wasn't uncommon for the Rye second to make her way out into the Lowlands after her morning duties were finished. She took this time to survey the tundra for any signs of the herds that seemed to have departed after their last pack hunt. Also, to make sure there wasn't anything out of the ordinary as far as potential dangers to the pack. With three growing children in the Rye, the mother needed to be vigilant when it came to protecting the precious beings that were brought into the world. Her heart went out to the little girl, @Kisetra that seemed to keep losing the presence of her mother. Luckily, cinnamon child had her dutiful father, though Adelayde tried as much as she could to include the girl and give her as much support as she could.

As her mind wandered thinking of the Rye cubs, a distant noise alerted her tawny ears to the presence of what she was searching for this chilly morning. A dusting of snow covered her back as she sat on her haunches overlooking the herd that laundered within the Lowlands. The caribou decided to return to the Rye hunting lands, their numbers as larger than last time as the smaller migratory groups joining together for the winter. Keen mismatched gaze picked through the crowd, trying to detect any weakness among them. Seeing a few, she knew it would be a good opportunity for the Rye to pick through the group while they were in their hunting lands. It looked promising for them to be traveling towards the Surge, meaning their allies too would benefit from the return of the herd.

Nikolai had curled up under the snow-laden boughs of one of the few trees that dotted the borders of the Rye Fields, it was a nice peaceful spot where he could slip off to collect his thoughts out. Hunting had become nearly an obsession for the adolescent. It was the key to their survival and on occasion, he would try and badger anyone that would listen for advice and tips. It worked too, his last solo hunt aginst a scrawny hare hadn’t ended in disaster. It could have gone better though. He replayed the memory over and over, trying to figure out where he had gone wrong in his planning. He should have been able to account for it diving into a hidden burrow.

A frustrated sigh escaped the pup as he shifted, a particularly thick clump of snow fell down and smacked him between the ears. He grunted and stood up before giving his fur a rough shake to dislodge the accumulated snow that had built up onto his tawny sides. A noise in the distance caught his attention and the inquisitive pup perked his ears while sniffing the air. There wasn’t anything out of the ordinary yet, but there was something out there. He crept through the snow, following the noise to its source. He caught a very familiar scent and he grinned,d his tail wagging when he picked up his mother’s smell. His fiery orange eyes finally found her perched amoung the snow and stray stalks. Fearful of alerting the herd he crept up toward her side, making plenty of noise in his clumsy attempts at stealth before he whispered softly “Hey mom, what's up?” before plopping himself right next to her paws and smiling.

As her gaze continued to look through the caribou herd, her tawny ear swiveled towards the crouching noise of an approaching body. The memorized scent filled her nostrils as her tail thumped against the snow covered ground in response. Her gaze turned to her son once he deposited himself next to her side, an easy smile crossing her ebony lips at the sight of her oldest child. Reaching her salmon tongue out to groom his cheek and nape as his question filled the air.

Hello, love. The caribou have returned, so I'm looking to see if there were any injured. Her routinely gaze looked over her son to make sure everything was in order and to keep her worried thoughts at bay about her children's welfare. Bicolored gaze looked back out to the herd. Do you see any? The mother asked, her eyes finding the few she had noticed moments before her son joined her. Nikolai was obsessed with practicing his hunting skills and with good reason as a wolf, in order to survive, you needed to be able to successfully hunt. Being in a pack helps your odds, but Ade wanted her children to be prepared for anything. The Lore was harsh for those unexpecting.

The young wolf closed his eyes when he felt his mother’s tongue on his cheek fur. He inhaled her scent and leaned into her as he listened to her explanation. He always knew he’d be safe with her and his father around. He wanted to do the same for @Vasilisa . The peaceful moment was shattered when she asked him a question and he shot up into an attentive position, his eyes looking out at the herd. He leaned forward slightly for a better view. The herd rippled and moved like water on a lake shore. He tilted his head this way and that way as he concentrated.

He couldn’t make anything out of the ordenairy except for an occational stagger in the movement as a whole. A single one stumbling here or falling behind there. He opened his mouth before closing it once more. Unsure if this was important or not. “Um...I think so mom, There’s um...one or two don’t look like their moving at the same pace as the rest."

Hope its ok to toss her in here if not let me know :)

Since the pack hunt her brother had become near obsessed with hunting. Vasi on the other hand was curious but not near as much as Niko. Sure she wanted to learn but not as bad as her littermate. She preferred to socialize more with those in the pack and to try to bring spirits up. She did however find interest in being stealthy and sneaking up on others...especially Nikolai.

The pale agouti child bounded through the snow sending the white powder flying everywhere. The scent of her littermate filled her nose leading her to his not so secret place. A grin formed on her creamy maw as she went to tracking him. With her tail high in the air and nose to the ground Vasilisa followed him to a clearing. Lifting her head to try to find him visually the girl spotted her mother with him. Excitement bubbled up in her chest and when she was about to let out a yip the bellow of a caribou filled the air. Her creamy maw quickly shut as she hurried to her mothers other side. She missed her mother's question but caught her brother's answer. He pointed out that one or two weren't moving as fast as the others. Vasi's head cocked as she looked at the heard trying to see what he saw but she couldnt. She could however smell that something smelled funny not knowing that it was the scent of an infection within the herd. She kept quiet to allow her mother to answer not wanting to be rude.

Just before Nikolai responded to her question about the herd in the distance, her youngest doppelganger daughter joined them sitting herself on her vacant side. Again, reaching over to groom her child's cheek with her tongue like she had to her brother moments before. Letting her muzzle affectionately bump into hers before she drew back to look for the weakness her son pointed out. Nodding, Very Good, Nikolai, those were the few that she had noticed before their arrival. He was certainly progressing very well for his age and she could tell he was going to make an excellent hunter once he grew more experienced.

Turning her gaze over to sweet Vasilisa, she pointed the question to her as well. Can you spot any injuries or weakness within the herd? Her voice soft not at all challenging. She didn't want them to feel pressured to see what her experienced senses could detect. As long as she could guide them towards the right indicators that they can search for once they were confident enough to hunt and track on their own. Adelayde only wanted the best for her children and as long as she could help them along to becoming successful wolves of this society, she would be proud. As long as she could help it, they were not going to be nescient.

Nikolai’s nostrils flared, and the wind carried a scent on it that he had known since birth. SHortly after his sister joined the trio and the boy grinned, his chest puffing out at his mother’s praise. He was about to repeat himself for Vasi to hear but he paused when their mother asked her the same question. He looked at his sister curiously, he knew she hadn’t been studying as much as he had been, and he wondered if it’d make a difference.

“Their moving a bit slower.” he said quietly, poking his head under his mother’s forepaw so that he could lean into his sister’s ear and quietly he whispered “psst, Kinda like dad does sometimes.”

Her mother asked if she could spot any injuries or weaknesses within the heard and Niko repeated his answer before whispering like their dad did. Vasi couldnt help the giggle that came from her creamy maw as she met her brothers gaze and nodded. Getting her laughter under control the youngest turned her attention back to the question. "Well somethin smells funny mama" she reported back to her doppelganger with a grin "Kinda like Niko" she also teased her littermate, he wasnt the only one that could make jokes.

Nodding in approval at her son's observation that one individual in the herd was moving slower than the rest, Very good, she approved just as he mischievously whispered to his sister. However, the mother easily caught the oldest's words bantering about their father. A light chuckle fell from her lips, He can still beat you in a footrace, young one...

It was Vasilisa's turn, her words also granting a soft nod from the mother as the youngest twin spoke of peculiar smell produced from the elk herd. A smile easily formed upon her ebony lips as Vasilisa in turn teased her littermate. With a gentle shake of her head, Ade turned her gaze back to the herd in front of them. She would keep track of the herd as they migrated, keeping tabs upon them until the pack planned another hunt. Come, lets go find Dad. Maybe we can see how fast he can actually move in a foot race, she motioned for her children after a chuckle left her lips as she turned from the herd to head back towards the Rye.
