Vinnie was trembling, and she hoped she could pass it off as the cold. She didn’t move as Neo moved closer, concern painting his features, with a war clearly raging in his eyes. What that war was about, Vinnie was not of the mind to try to figure out. The boy stopped before reaching her and let out a short whine, clearly trying to catch her gaze as he apologized.

She closed her eyes and took a deep breath, trying to convince herself that it was okay, she was very far away from home and they were less likely to find her than she them, because they wouldn’t be looking. She doubted they’d even leave the territory when - if - they noticed she was gone. The most she’d get was the label of ‘deserter’ and they’d move on with their lives without her. As long as she didn’t go too far east, she would be safe.

Most likely.

Looking up at Neo again, Vinnie offered him a small smile and forced herself to stand straight again and relax, swishing her tail a little to try to show him she was okay. ”It’s alright… we can just forget about them.” she said faintly.

Vinnie smiled a little more genuinely at Neo’s next words, promising her a place with him in his travels. Her ears lifted again. ”I would like that,” she said. ”I look forward to meeting your sister.” she took a couple steps forward and gently bumped his shoulder with her nose, all but holding her breath in the hopes the contact wouldn’t be rejected.

Vinnie smiled and stood up her frame seeming okay, but was she? Neo didn't wanna believe she was, how could she? Her family sounded horrible, sounded nothing like how a family should be. But he wouldn't be the one to force her to stay on a topic she did not wanna talk about. Instead, the blond Hervok sighed and smiled this time a genuine smile. She accepts his offer and seems happy by the idea of traveling with him and he is determined to make sure she doesn't feel whatever had family had made her feel. He would ensure she was happy, make sure she had a place to call home a real pack who could be family like the Fell had been to him.

As her nose meets his shoulder he smiled down at her bumping his nose to her forehead. "Let's move one then, get away from that distant fire" he takes a few steps forward tail wagging before he looks back to see if she will follow him. "We should head for those streams and then maybe find something to eat?" he offers trying to come up with a plan for the next couple of days. He generally knew where he was going and guessed they could reach the open plains in a few days if they didn't get turned around.

Vinnie relaxed when she felt Neo’s nose touch the top of her head. If he was going to turn out to be cruel like her father, that would have been the time to do it. He genuinely seemed to care that Vinnie was okay, which was odd for the girl to think about, yet caused something warm to stir inside her. Is this what it meant to have a friend?

She followed as he walked, nodding with both of his suggestions. Moving away from fire seemed best, and at the mention of food her stomach growled. Her ears flicked in embarrassment, but she didn’t pause. With two of them, they might be able to find something a little more substantial than the winter-thin squirrels and rabbits she’d been able to find.

For the first time ever, Vinnie felt at ease. Maybe things in this strange new world wouldn’t be so bad after all.
