RE: Winter makes a comeback! A cold snap drops a dusting of snow across Relic Lore, killing early spring flowers.

She had not expected the snow dusting that she had woke to that morning. The world covered in a thin layer of white. Flowers hung heavy with the new weight and any patches of green had been covered up. Likely to turn brown from the sudden cold snap.

It was ominous in her mind. Would winter never end?

She rose, shook free the dusting on her and carefully padded through the magnolias. It was not how she had remembered it when she had arrived a few days ago. Entirely different with the snow. Perhaps she just had to hold out for summer. Spring dreams gone from her mind as she looked all around her.

Scully Archer
Scully wasn't much bothered by the change of weather, the dull greys suiting him just fine. He prowled the thinly veiled earth, both bored and insatiate. Perhaps he could find something to bring back to his sister, but what he really wanted was his own satisfaction. Hungry eyes roamed ahead, and lit up when finally something novel caught them.

Company.

He spoke up with a soft trio of woofs, trying to reach the distance across them and grab her attention. His tail arced through the air with amiable wags as his paws punched through the thin, crisp powdering.

She hadn't expected anyone. Not really.

Perhaps she had daydreamed thoughts of @Leander exploring the snow with her, but it was just that. Daydreams. She hadn't bumped into anyone else so far. So while she startled at the simple sounds of woofs towards her, she also welcomed them entirely.

Quickly she gave the stranger her attention. Eager and trusting of someone who naturally seemed so friendly! Her own soft, youthful woofs called back out to him. A small tippy-tap of her paws as she wiggled with excitement. An invitation for him to continue his course towards her.

Although he was bigger (and a stranger!) she did not feel any inkling of unease. Quite the opposite! Some sense of comradery for their similar monochrome looks and friendly ways.

"Hellooooo!" She called out in a feather light singsong tone to him.

She met his beckoning with enthusiasm, ramping up Scully's own excitement. Running into strangers out in the wild, outside of a community like the Ridge or Torbine, was always such a mixed bag. The full spectrum of wolfish emotion was laid bare from encounter to encounter, and he had learned quickly to expect literally everything. That didn't make him cautious, however.

He picked up the pace, now racing over the snow-dusted grass to close the distance between them. When he reached her, his paws didn't dig in to stop until he was right there, nearly about to knock into her.

A toothy grin stretched wide across his gilded muzzle, and he promptly dropped his chest down toward the earth, bowed down into play position.

"Heya," he growled out, an impish glint in his eyes.

She adored him already. Which was an easy thing to do when he was perhaps the liveliest, most radiant wolf she had crossed paths with. Even if he did come close enough to almost knock her over in his quick approach, enough to have her step back with a momentary wariness of being bowled over.

His grin was charming, as was the way he bowed towards the snowy earth. She mimicked his pose with ease. Her tail swept to arc over her back with playful challenge.

"Who are you?!" Some wild delight in her voice. His energy intoxicating, infectious. She needed to know more.

She continued to rise to the occasion, matching his vibrance and thrilling him with potential. The wolves around here were far more friendly than what he had grown accustomed to under Empire rule, like an old home town kind of vibe. Why hadn't they returned sooner? He could get used to this fast.

He laughed at her question, and bounded backwards with an awkward-looking but successful leap. One more flash of his teeth, and then he turned on his heels, leaving words and a thin flurry of snow in his wake.

"I'll tell ya if yer fast enough!"

She had her dainty size on her side for this chase. Quick on her feet, able to zip off after him with laughter trailing the air around them. The light dusting of snow kicked up behind each of them. For her, that meant a vision obscured with the fine dust that flew up wildly behind him.

"No faaaaaair!" She practically howled out to him. He had taken off first! Not to mention he had longer legs!

Nightingale would not be a sore loser though, even if she was a whiner. She was keen to keep this chase after him for as long as she could maintain it.

Scully pumped out long strides as rapidly as he could, attempting to put a bit of distance between them in order to give himself something of a head start. Her complaint had him grinning, and when he felt he'd finally gained a sliver of that desired advantage, he promptly spent it. Cutting an arc through the snow he turned around, and plowed straight toward the girl. As he closed in on her, Scully would attempt to dodge. He was agile, adept at this game; it had always been a more fruitful recourse for him than wrestling, having failed to build the same kind of muscular bulk his father had.

Still, it was more fun on the edge, even in play. He stayed close, all but dancing from paw to paw as he lunged close then side-hopped away, rinse and repeat until she succeeded in touching him.

She let out a soft squeal when he suddenly turned and was coming right at her! She slammed herself to a halt, eyes squeezed tight shut as she felt herself lurch with her sudden loss in momentum. Which was worse? The fact that she had to wait for impact or the fact that it never showed up.

Only when she felt brave enough to crack open an eye did she see him instead dart in and out, much like a wild wave. Which explained why he had never knocked her over.

"Come here!" She shouted with laughter, fully prepared to crash herself into him if that was what it took.

It was difficult to resist the urge to poke and prod her, but the bar had been set and he needed to see the game through. His whole greyscale body wriggled joyously when she re-engaged with him, and even more energy was poured into his playful antics. Then, she got him; first by the paw, pinning it for a split second but long enough to affect his balance, and then they knocked together audibly as he tipped forward.

"Oof," he breathed through a closed grin, rump promptly plopping down into the snow.

She'd won.

"Okay, not bad," Scully commended as though begrudgingly, but there was a betraying amount of glee in his voice.

"It's Scully, punk," the word was spoken affectionately, like a pet name; "who're you?"
