The crow looked back at the sleeping forms of her children. She'd only just woken up herself when the sound of rain hitting the ground outside the den woke her. It was hard to believe after so much time without it. Oksana had gotten to her feet and made her way to the mouth of the den to watch the rain fall.

She'd thought to rouse the four sleeping pups to show them what rain was. It was for her after all a time to celebrate. She hoped it would last long enough to bring the lake back to them. A smile did cross ger features as she raised her muzzle into the air to call to her packmates, it was a song of hope and happiness.

It wasn't necessarily the light, foreign drumming of rain against the den that had awoken the once slumbering child from his pleasant dreams, but the sudden song that erupted from their mother that had finally done the deed. Lifting a sleepy head from amidst its former position tucked between oversized paws, an ear flicked while trying to find the strength to open his eyes and see just what mother was singing about. Clearly in the depths of the den and the darkness wouldn't do.

Groggily the boy made his way towards the mouth of the den and to where she sat, the drumming against the den growing louder with each step. "Wut dat?" Galen asked in an equally groggy voice while taking a glance outside from the safety of between his mother's legs. Wet stuff kept falling outside and boy was it strange looking.

Di had yet to learn what it truly meant to be cold, but she did understand the absence of warmth and she had certainly been warm when she'd fallen asleep. The young girl groggily raised her head, sniffing the air and squinting in the dark den. She hadn't felt mom leave, but when she'd shifted she had noticed her brother's sudden absence. It didn't take long to locate both of them, sitting in the den mouth and silhouetted against the faint light from outside.

"Mama?" she yawned, stretching and crawling up to join them. She wormed her way next to her brother, sandwiching herself tightly between him and mom's leg. She sniffed again. Outside smelled... nice, but water was trickling towards her paws. She didn't want to be wet right now. "Whyzzit crying?" she asked.

The sound of the rain hitting ground around her was a sweet sound in her ears. She hoped that it would bring them the relief they needed. More so she hoped it would mark the end of the drought, they needed that more than anything. Her orange gaze looked up toward the dark clouds in the sky choosing to just live in that moment. She was soon joined by two of her children both with their own questions.

She thought that her song might have woken them and that was alright. They should have the chance to witness this if they wanted to. She smiled down at both placing kisses on each of their heads. Her attention was first turned toward her son. "It's called rain," she told him before looking to her daughter, "It does seem like tears doesn't it? It's how the forest gets its water like we do from the lake." She thought that explanation would make the most sense to them. "Its what we've been waiting for."

Galen unsurprisingly wasn't the only one that had been stirred from their dreams by their mother's song. Before the curious boy could gain some new knowledge about the giant world around him, a familiar presence wriggled herself into the small gap between himself and their mother. Diantha posed her own question about the strange wet stuff. Crying? Galen tilted his head curiously at the thought, taking another glance at the falling water. For a moment his lips turned down into a small frown. Yeah, it did look kinda sad.

Alas, a swift kiss on his head from his mother had his attention back to her as she finally revealed what it was called. "Rain." Galen mirrored the word she had used, gaze wandering back toward the outside world while a further explanation was offered. "Rain gud den?" Apparently, this stuff helped the trees, and in turn, that helped the pack. It was all kinda confusing still, but Galen was content with the fact it wasn't bad.

Diantha stared out at the water cascading to the earth just outside their little shelter. She looked back up at her mother as she was kissed and an explanation was given. Galen was the first to repeat the word, clearly content with the answer, but Di frowned and looked back out. "Why's tha forest need water?" she asked. She'd never seen it 'rain' before, and the forest was just fine. All the other animals drank from the lake too, and plants didn't have mouths. Or did they? She'd have to look next time she went outside.

For now, she just watched the sky cry.

Oksana wanted to feel relief that the rain had come she was so happy for it. Still she wondered how long would it last. Would it be enough to get them through the drought and bring their home back to life. It was getting harder and harder to get through each day but made this would turn things around for them. It was the little voices of her children that brought her back to their questions that needed to he answered.

First was her sons question, an easy one to answer. She smiled down at Galen, "Yes, it is very good. We must hope that it stays for awhile." She turned to Diantha to answer her question about the forest. "All living things need water. Just like us the forest is alive and without water it withers and dies. The animals that we hunt for food will leave in search of water. It is one of the most important things in life." She waited to see if they might have more questions.
