Lachesis "XIX" Stark
<b style="font-family:georgia; color:#8A9F4D;">
The pale yearling had finally managed to leave the eerie Woods behind him as he stumbled upon the water source. The creek was a good sign — it was far easier to navigate down a body of water than it was in a forest, and after spending so much time wandering through the trees Lachesis was parched. He bounded forward excitedly, his tail wagging frantically behind him as he lowered his head to take a drink. The spider-legged yearling was completely lost, and it was terrifying. He knew that the more walking he did was putting his home further behind him, but he couldn't tell if he was doing that on purpose or not. He wanted desperately to go home and see his family, but he was enjoying being on his own (momentarily, that was). The sheltered life within the Pack had taught Lach nothing of the outside world and how to deal with wild wolves, but here he was getting hands on action.
It was absolutely frightening but how else was he going to learn? He was sure that his parents had lived a life in the wild prior to the Pack, but living such a comfortable life had dulled their senses. He was not sure if they would survive longer than him outside of the Pack.
The boy moved alongside the Creek, his nose raised slightly to catch every scent that was being whipped against him. The water had quenches his thirst and settled his stomach, although the dull ache of hunger was still present. Despite their sheltered life, they still had to hunt which Lachesis had been incredibly thankful for during this 'quest' of his — he would have been dead by now otherwise. However, the ghostly yearling had not been concerned about hunting for the past few days. Moving had been his main concern, water being the second, and food somewhere down at the bottom. It was foolish, as he needed to keep his strength up, but Lachesis kept telling himself that when he had time for it he would stop.

I believe we are what we make ourselves

A golden boy stood at the edge of the stream, staring into the shallows with some misgivings. "Well," he murmured to himself, "Here goes nothing."

With that, he bent himself down into the creek. Instantly he sprang back yelping, "COLD COLD COLD FUCKING COLD/" It was some form of distraction, at least, as swearing up a storm kept him from vacating the water. He just needed to do it all at once. He took a deep breath, steeled his frozen nerves, and rolled. The icy water stung his sides and reached up his back to wrap around to his other side as he rolled up on to the other side of the creek, sopping and muddy.

"One down, four to go."

Datura hated baths. It was possible that he hated baths even more than he hated when Adonis laughed at him. But unfortunately for Datura, baths were a necessary evil, and for some reason he had decided it was necessary to roll himself in the icy, muddy waters of the creek every few months to make sure his golden fur still sparkled. And it couldn't be just any water, it had to be running water, clear water. Sure, he could have done it back home in the mountain, but then someone might see him. If there was one thing he wanted to make sure of besides his cleanliness, it was that his routine remain unknown to the rest of Relic Lore. Even Taima.

He took another gulp of air, leaning towards the water once more...

is ok! i was gonna ask you for a thread cause i've been stalking datura so this works perfectly! :D!<b style="color:#8A9F4D; font-size:12px;">
The more he walked the more his paws began to hurt; his long legs were growing sore with each stride he took and each step felt as if fire was spreading through his body. Lachesis knew he needed to rest, but he was stubborn — the ghostly yearling wanted to put as much ground behind him as possible and take advantage of his new-found freedom. Of course, he still wanted to go home as he missed his family so much it pained the boy to even think about them, but there was an indescribable excitement that came with being alone. It was terribly lonely yet exhilarating at the same time — he longed for the comfort of his family (especially that of his mother).
There was also the guilt that came with the disappearance of his brother. Lachesis wanted to return home to his family but he was worried what the reaction of his parents would be if he came back without Pyrrhus at his side.
None of this would've happened if it hadn't been for his brother's grand plan to leave the Pack. The alabaster yearling had been perfectly comfortable with the sheltered lifestyle of the Pack until Pyrrhus had forced him into this ridiculous adventure. Maybe it wasn't so ridiculous anymore, but still. His brother wouldn't be missing if it hadn't been for this "epic adventure" plan of his.
Once he broke away from his thoughts Lachesis found himself standing in the shallows of the creek, the water soothing his sore paws. His pear-coloured eyes blinked shut as the slow moving water poured between his legs and over his toes, his ears pressing back against his skull. As much as he wanted to keep moving the yearling needed to regain his strength — he had lost a considerable amount of weight since leaving the Pack and his muscles burned with each movement. It was then that he heard a splash ahead, yellow-green eyes widening instantly to focus on the golden wolf ahead. Shit, shit, shit! Lachesis bounded toward the edge of the creek, desperately hoping that the young wolf hadn't already noticed him.

I believe we are what we make ourselves

"Twwoooo" he groaned, throwing his shoulder back into the water and letting the momentum turn him over. The water's bite was less intense this time, and the boy found himself relaxing slightly. He even began to hum a bit, though his voice was tuneless as it bounded between the only two notes he could produce. Having no concept of beauty and no need of music, his humming didn't need to be pretty. It was just something he had picked up in order to fill up the emptiness in the air around him that he would have rather have filled with conversation.

There were sounds of water sloshing behind him.

Shit.

If someone had seen him rolling around in the water like this he was ruined — ruined. What could be left of his lupine dignity if someone caught him with his proverbial pants around his proverbial ankles like this? The embarrassment would be overwhelming. His head whipped back over his shoulder, his eyes wide with fear as he panned the riverbanks in desperation, just barely catching a flash of a white tail as it disappeared into the bushes. Anger flared up in the boy like a match that had been dropped into a drum of gasoline. The need to defend his honor was overwhelming.

"HEY!" The golden boy shouted, twisting back onto his stomach and dashing after white tail. He hurled himself into the foliage recklessly. "COME BACK HERE, COWARD!"

<33 is otay! this is short too! <b style="color:#8A9F4D; font-size:12px;">
'Hey!'
The voice cracked through the air, lashing at his ears like a whip as the ghostly yearling bounded away from the young wolf in the water. He disappeared into the foliage flanking the creek, his long, spidery legs carrying him swiftly over the ground. A string of curses flooded his thoughts as his still wet paws skidded while he ran, causing him to slip on a patch of grass. The boy tumbled across the ground, his claws desperately searching for something to grab on to.
'Come back here, coward!'
Sprawled against the ground, Lachesis struggled to catch his footing as the voice came closer. His pear-coloured eyes were wide with fear as he stumbled backward against a tree, his ears flattened against his skull. Even if he attempted to sprint away now he knew that the wolf would catch up with him eventually — the hunger that ached in his stomach prevented the yearling from running any further. He waited patiently for the golden boy to appear, his chest heaving as he panted, tongue lolled from the side of his open mouth. No matter how hard he tried Lachesis frequently found himself running into wolves in the lands of Relic Lore; he just wanted to be alone, or at the side of his traveling friend Anastasia. The company of these foreign wolves did not interest the young male, but it was the thrill of the adventure that drove him further into Relic.

I believe we are what we make ourselves
So intent on finding this good-for-nothing peeping-tom was Datura that he nearly ran right past him. When a flash of white snagged on the edges of his awareness, however, he dug his heels into the ground and skidded to a halt, lurching forward as he tried to contain his momentum. The gilded boy's tail waved high above his head, proclaiming his dominance so emphatically that he seemed to be shouting. But he had to. Remembering that his fur also needed to be bristling so that he looked just as big and imposing as his mother did, the soggy boy shook the remaining water from his coat.

Once he was properly settled into his posture, the boy's attention honed in on his stalker. He certainly didn't look like much — some skin stretched across a jumble of bones, but the fur was not enough to hide it. This boy was hungry, and he was stupid. Only a stupid person would have backed themself into a corner like this, up against a tree with no escape.Datura's eyes narrowed as he stepped towards the ghostly boy, forcing himself into his stalker's personal space. He was loathe to break his own rules, but desperate times called for desperate measures. "So you think it's fun to watch people bathe, do you? You like invading other people's privacy, huh?" He jabbed the boy's stomach with a paw, his voice menacingly quiet "How about you? Do you like it when I invade your privacy?"

<b style="color:#8A9F4D; font-size:12px;">
He should've kept running but it was too late for that, the pale boy had dug himself a deep hole and dived headfirst into it. As the golden boy approached Lachesis studied him through narrowed brows — the boy was displaying behaviour similar to that of the midnight wolf he had the displeasure of meeting days before. Only it wasn't nearly as effective as it was from the female; it was almost comical how the younger wolf was trying to display dominance over the loner. He remained still against the tree trunk as the pup closed the distance between then, his words cutting into him. With his luck, Lachesis was going to run into all the bullies of Relic Lore before he managed to make a single friend (aside from Ana).
Without warning the golden boy prodded his stomach with his paw, spitting more words at him while doing so. The pear-eyed boy blinked slowly as he watched the youth, his ears still plastered against his skull. Lachesis was still frightened by the strange boy, but he was intrigued by his actions and the words that had stained the air. <b style="color:#8A9F4D; font-size:12px;">"N-no," he started, voice hoarse from lack of use, as he met the boy's gaze. He wasn't sure how that was going to go over — when he looked the midnight loner in the eyes it had resulted in a scuffle that he wouldn't soon forget. <b style="color:#8A9F4D; font-size:12px;">"B-but, if you don't want to be seen you sh-shouldn't be doing it out in the open." The words were bold for the skittish yearling but there was no turning back now, the damage had been done and Lachesis waited for the response of the pack pup with a lump settling in his throat.

I believe we are what we make ourselves
As the pale boy trembled in front of him, Datura was overwhelmed by the strength of his satisfaction. It felt good to dominate over somebody, better than any other feeling he had ever felt before. And it had been so long since he had had this sort of power over anyone now that his sister was long gone and erased from his memories. But she had gotten uppity near the end, only listened to him partially, and she had never really been afraid. She had trusted him, she had been safe with him. And any harm he had done her had been for her own good.

"N-No."

While that had been the answer he had naturally expected, the look that came with it through Datura off balance. Visibly. He backed up a step, wondering if he had read the signs wrong. Half of the white boy was submission, curled up against the tree with his ears properly down... but the rest was all wrong. Why was he staring at him. Why would he look him in the eye like that? The boy shook his head as if it would help him unscramble the mixed signals he was getting as he listened to the frosty loner continue on in some awkwardly bold stammer that made Datura's lips peel back from his teeth.

"B-but, if you don't want to be seen you sh-shouldn't be doing it out in the open."

A smarter wolf might have been stumped by this logic, but Datura was hellbent on forcing this stranger to see reality the way he saw it. "You can't find hidden, running water like that!" he snapped, "That's just not how it works. It has to be this creek! If I went anywhere else it just.... it would be stupid. I can't wash myself anywhere else."

Pear-coloured eyes blinked at the golden stranger with growing curiosity burning in their depths. He was unsure of what to think of the young wolf — there was something about him that made the ghostly loner nervous. The golden pack wolf was filled with impulse, his words frantically spitting past his licorice lips, aiming the slice through Lachesis. Having an older brother as a bully helped to prepare Lachesis for similar wolves; however, it had not taught him how to handle wolves that had been like the inky loner. This golden wolf before him, whose posture screamed dominance despite his age, reminded him of Pyrrhus. A pang of guilt settled in his stomach, a frown creasing his dark maw as he continued to watch the stranger.
As the golden boy spoke it was clear that he was irritated with Lachesis' response, something that he had intended for. His head cocked at the pup, his ears still remaining flat as he relaxed his shoulders. <b style="color:#838136; font-size:12px;">"Have you tried somewhere else before?" The words fell off his tongue before he could catch them, eyes still focused on the boy. <b style="color:#838136; font-size:12px;">"W-why is this place so sp-pecial?"
Damn his stuttering.
There must be some specific reason as to why this wolf was so particular on his bathing spots. Baths, at least to Lachesis, were a normal part of a wolf's life — he didn't understand why the pack wolf was so ruffled. He could understand the privacy issue, but the reaction still baffled him.

Datura Aquila

Datura’s expression began to shift towards a more dangerous place. The golden heir’s large ears were stretched as far forward as was possible, throwing a shadow over his eyebrows that knitted together atop his glowering eyes. “Don’t be ridiculous,” he barked abruptly. “I like this place. There’s no reason to try any other place.” Besides, searching for somewhere else to bathe would take more time and effort than he was willing to put forth. If this weirdo continued to insist on barging in on him in the coming months then he would probably have to, though.

It’s special because it’s part of my routine. Can’t you just respect that?” His tail was rising higher and higher over his back. “Like, it’s enough that you’ve invaded my privacy here but what, now you’re after my whole life story? Doesn’t discretion mean anything to you?” This question was mostly rhetorical though, as quite frankly this strange loner had already demonstrated his general disregard for propriety in both his actions and his words. A mannerly wolf wouldn’t have walked in on him, wouldn’t have challenged him with his gaze, nor would he have asked him such silly, personal questions. Really, there was no point in dealing with this wolf at all anymore, the arbiter of social courtesy had decided. Datura sighed. Already he had wasted so much time and his fur was beginning to dry again. He would have to start all over now. Abruptly he turned away, hoping to get farther upstream to continue his bath away from the prying eyes of this peeping tom.

Forget it. I’m out.
