Random Event #3 — GONE

The wolves have been noticing it all across Relic Lore, the gradual decline of water levels. Each day, it seems like the water sources have been becoming more and more depleted. Finally, as summer gives way to fall, the water has completely disappeared. The Heartleaf Creek, which carries water down from the Mountain of Dire to the entire forest of Relic Lore, has dried up. Now, nothing remains but a rocky path. Now the question remains, where did the water go?

This is an All Welcome thread. You may react to this however you think your character would.

A yawn escaped the girl’s slender muzzle as her paws carried her to the creek at a sluggish pace. It was later in the morning, and while Lífdís had been awake for hours, her energy had felt sapped the past few days. Her throat was raw; a harsh tickle that spurred a few coughs from her every so often, and she knew that she was becoming sick with something. For now, she needed to quench her thirst, and as there were no longer any small puddles to do so, the she-wolf was trailing to one of the larger water resources of Relic Lore.

The silence was something she noticed straight away. Blinking her cinnamon eyes, the rogue glanced up for a moment, her gaze searching for what was missing. It was only when her eyes fell upon the cracked and dried creek did she realize why the quiet was so deafening – the water was completely gone, and with it, the gentle trickle of its flow. A whine pressed to her lips as she realized now that Indru was right. Relic Lore was losing its water supply, and they didn’t know how to get it back.

Gone Tomorrow

Her fur was dull and her eyes were glassy. She had lost weight, and she felt like her coat was hanging off her skeletal body. She wasn't sick yet,, but she knew that she would be if she was unable to find a reliable source of food. But more importantly was the lack of water. Part of what had made the Swift River pack such an ideal one to join was because they had taken control of a section of the river. They were never short on water. But lately it seemed like every part of the forest was lacking from a water source...and for a lone wolf like Cori, it was taking its toll.

She was walking in the river. Figuratively. She was literally walking in what used to be the river. But now it was just dry stone and dirt. The water which had fed the forest, kept it alive, was gone. Looking around her, the she wolf noticed another female further up ahead, who also seemed upset about the lack of water. Moving towards her, she called out, "Where has it gone?" It was painfully obvious what she was talking about, and if they couldn't figure out an answer, they were all in trouble.

Her eyes blurred for a moment, a headache throbbing to her temple as the revelation of this news settled heavily to her shoulders. The water was gone. Completely dried away. Just.. gone. A tremor coursed through her body, and just as she lifted a paw to swipe at the ground just where the water had once been, a soft voice interrupted her oncoming panic.

Her muzzle swung back, her cinnamon eyes regarding the light silver female with desolation. She had no answers, and so she only shook her head, slightly bewildered that it had finally gone. She hadn’t truly believed Indru – she had thought it would somehow flow back to where it belonged.. a source of life for Relic Lore once more. Instead, she turned her attention back to the now empty bank, and with her ivory and silver-speckled paws, the girl began to dig frantically, hoping that a pool of water would form from her actions. At least then she could satiate her and this female's thirst.

Damascus Lael
<blockquote><font style='margin-left:20px;'>Thirst was alleviated in the same universal way &mdash; finding water. Damascus was set on finding such a thing, but so far had only been able to find dried creek beds and smaller off-shoots. It was strange, he couldn't deny that, given that the last few days there seemed like there had been plenty of water around to go around. But the further he travelled into the depths of the Lore, the less water he saw. It was confusing, but he wasn't entirely deterred by the lack of it. It had to be somewhere, anyway.</font>

<font style='margin-left:20px;'>But he wasn't the only one looking for water. It was the sound of another's voice that drew him out of the brush and down to the dry bed, and he travelled southward towards the others. Keeping his approach calm, a sigh left his lips when he saw that even here, there was nothing to be found. His exasperation was <span class='word'>ineffable</span>, and the tawny traveller slowed to a stop near them, flicking his ears back against his furry skull. <b>"There's no water further north along this creek either,"</b> he spoke, foregoing greetings. His eyes rested on the female that was digging, and he wondered if the water had simply seeped through the ground beneath their feet.</font>

<font style='margin-left:20px;'><b>"When did this happen?"</b></font> How could they sustain themselves without it?</blockquote>

Draven Makwa
<blockquote> <font style='margin-left:20px;'> Draven was thirsty and it seemed as though that was the only thing that crossed his mind that morning. He had been out searching for any trace of water, but alas, he hadn't found a single drop. As he made his way through the forest on that brisk autumn morning, Draven slowly began feeling more and more tired, as his thirst grew stronger. As he slowly approached part of the river that he hadn't seen before, Draven came to a halt as he noticed a few wolves that were unfamiliar to him. He stood back, keeping his distance as he kept a watchful eye on those near him, while he listened for any information about a new water source. </font>

<font style='margin-left:20px;'> Draven sat down, panting from his thirst and exhaustion, as he listened and watched the other wolves digging and searching for puddles or small pools of water. Finally, Draven stood up again and sluggishly made his way over to the others, remembering to keep a safe distance just in case the others weren't too friendly. <b>"Excuse me,"</b> he greeted quietly, trying his best not to seem threatening to the others. <b>"It looks like the water has dried up along the southern part of this creek, too."</b> he added hesitantly, growing more and more afraid that he wouldn't be able to find water for a long time. <b>"What are we going to do? Has anything like this ever happened before?"</b> Draven questioned, hopeful that the others had some kind of information and knew what to do in a situation like this, because this was something he had not experienced since his arrival. </blockquote></font>

The silver agouti she-wolf who had come upon her first fell seemingly quiet and the arctic hybrid could only assume the girl had as much information as the rest of them. As her paws swiped furiously at the creek bottom, silver-tipped ears perked at the sound of another voice, and the lone wolf instantly shifted her muzzle as her cinnamon eyes fell upon the tawny wolf. His clarification of her fear caused her light brows to furrow, and for the moment, her paws finally stopped their desperate work.

“Over a month ago,” she answered finally, her accented voice quieter than usual. Only upon the arrival of another male did the ivory she-wolf feel slightly silly for her attempt, and with a small amount of hesitation, Lifdis soon climbed out of the rifted enclosure of the creek. Pacing back a bit, her slender shoulders shrugged at the other newcomer’s question. “I don’t know. I’ve only been here a little while.” Her eyes gazed imploringly to the others, curious if they had any idea. After a small pause, she continued with the little information she did have. “My friend is the leader of the Swift River pack.. He’s lived here his entire life and said nothing like this has happened.”
