Cinder Attaya
The sun beat down upon the residents of the Rapids – clouds every so often would filter the light and cause a darkened shadow to fall across the lands, but that did not deter the little ebony girl that lay sprawled out within a pile of dirt just outside the den of her family. The heat of the summer was lost upon her – having only experienced such a thing thus far in her short life, though when the sun did hide behind the curtain of grey clouds, Cinder did note she felt relief from the suns rays.

With her pink tongue hanging out, her hind toes sprawled out behind her and front paws touching small little pebbles, the girl canted her muzzle as the scene her imagination portrayed played out in front of her. Six tiny dark rocks lay before her, and with a grin, Cinder touched her paw to one of them, scooting it closer to the other group. “I home,” she sing-songed in a deeper tone, mimicking what she believed was a great likeness to her father. “I home fromma patrol. Where my food?” From there, her tiny paw shifted to the other dark pebble, scotching it closer to the largest one that had just ‘talked.’ “Hi! Honey. Come get yer food,” she once more spoke, this time in a lighter pitch as she pushed the Ava pebble back to the others. With a small pause, she was about to skirt the smaller stones towards the Kade stone when a small red bug landed atop one.

Pausing mid-play, Cinder blinked her baby blue eyes at the ladybug, having never seen it before. “Whossa you?” Her tone was demanding, but a soft ‘hum’ escaped her lips as she admired the beauty of the insect. What was it?!

MAKSIM BARANSKI
Maksim lay sprawled out on a patch of moss and dirt, soaking in the dappled sunlight that filtered through the trees he lazed beneath. Often he was deep within the forest, only able to see very patchy sunlight through the thick canopy whilst patrolling the borders, but he was more than happy to take a break. The subordinate let the cool breeze that carried small droplets of water run its fingers through his summer coat. Refreshing, as was the sound of a pup—he couldn’t place which one—talking. With his eyes closed, he couldn’t help but chuckle at her shrill voice shifting pitches in an attempt to mimic what he presumed to be her mother and father. Sweet. He fondly remembered Anzhela doing similar things on a warm summer’s day.

However, her inquisitive little ‘whossa you’ caused him to open one green eye and flick his ears forwards. Found something, had she? Something she clearly didn’t know about. Slowly pushing himself up from the cool ground, almost protesting against making himself move, Maksim stretched out with a long yawn. Shaking out any drowsiness he may have succumb to, the male slowly made his way over to the little black pup and her assortment of pebbles. Lowering himself down to her level as he approached, he dropped to his stomach at her side and peered at the little bug that had caught her interest.

“That,” he began with a smile, “is a ladybug. They only show up for very, very pretty little girls.” Perhaps not entirely true but the Baranski figured that it would at least brighten up the pup’s day more than the sun was already doing. “I’m sure she wants to know what game this ladywolf is playing.”

Much to her upset, her demand went unanswered for many moments, as while she stared at the ladybug, she felt her eyes narrow more and more as silent moments ticked by. How dare this creature not answer her question?! Simmering in what she had yet to realize was frustration, she was only interrupted from sending a good swat to the bug’s way when the gentle crunching of approaching pawsteps caused her tiny muzzle to lift slightly.

It was a wolf she did not recognize, but she did not shy away from him the way she first had when she had been introduced to the outside. He crouched lower as he approached, sliding his paler belly to the ground before flipping her a smile. The she-pup tilted her muzzle curiously, leaning forward as her nares quivered, taking in the scent of the unknown wolf. He smelled of her parents – familiar, and of pack.

She listened quietly as he spoke then, her puppy blue eyes traveling back to the ladybug as he explained what it was. Another gentle ‘hm’ escaped her lips as she shifted her weight, her stubby tail giving a flippant wag. “I am a pretty girl,” she reiterated, looking back to the ladybug as if it might have been the smartest creature she had come across yet.

Perking her ears forward, a smile escaped her jaws as she beamed to the silver male before her, almost entirely forgetting about the ladybug now. Eagerly, her two front paws pushed part of the pebbles his way before she pulled back, her eyes roaming the playing pieces with newfound glee. “Yew be the daddy and I be the mommy!” Her quip was met with puppy slur, but this was not noted by the tiny girl as she plopped her butt back down, her eyes gazing at him, imploring.. waiting for him to play the game with her.

MAKSIM BARANSKI
The young girl sniffed Maksim as he spoke, hopefully identifying him as someone friendly. He hadn’t been there for their first venture out of their den and hadn’t the foggiest clue as to what their names even were. Hopefully the Baranski would find out which little one this was. She seemed to be relaxed enough in his presence and he was rather pleased by that. The princess looked down at the bug, reiterating that she was, indeed, a pretty girl with a wag of her tail. Unfortunately, it’s place on the pebbles was disturbed when she suddenly separated a few from the bunch and scooted them over to Maksim. Oh. Oh no. She wouldn’t, would she?

“Yew be the daddy and I be the mommy!”

… Yes, she would. Maksim blinked a few times before he smiled at the black girl. He may as well try, it’s not like it’d hurt much. Putting a large paw beside the pebble that was now dwarf absolutely, the Baranski looked down at the pebble and nodded. Okay. Be the daddy. That meant be Kade, didn’t it? Oh god, how awkward; pretending to be his leader. Briefly his mind travelled to the possibility of Kade wandering across the scene at hand. He cringed inwardly but kept his outward composure pleasant. He had to look at it this way: the child would like it thoroughly. He had to make the sacrifice. Time to adapt the persona of her dad, a man she knew better than him.

“Okay,” he began, returning his gaze to the girl with a smile. She’d need to catch him up on what the current scene in her head was. “Seeing as I joined the game late, catch me up. What’s daddy doing right now?” Hopefully she wouldn’t snap at him but if she did he’d have to calmly explain that being rude to adults wasn’t nice. She didn’t seem like the kind of pup to speak that way, though. Maksim could only hope, really.

Sorry for the wait! ><

Waiting with a patience that was far longer than such a princess could usually muster, Cinder practically beamed at her new playmate as a small smile finally traced his muzzle at this concept. Agreeing amicably, his paw placed itself by the daddy pebble and he made the request to be caught up on the scenario that was unfolding in her little mind. Her butt wriggled on the ground, barely able to contain her excitement, and the little girl patted the ground beside the daddy block, stretching herself greatly to reach. “Thassa daddy Kade, he jus’ came home guardin’ the borders.”Pausing, her paw pushed another pebble his way. “Tha’ is Rowan. He’s big an’ strong like daddy. That,” she paused, wrinkling her nose and then moving the tiniest pebble to Maksim. “Can be Mace. He’s mean and puny.”

With this decided, she settled back, her eyes gleaming down to her own pebbles left. “Thissa is mommy. She made some yummy food! Deer. An’ then this issa me an’ Quil!” Of course, she had saved the prettiest rock for herself – one that held a trace of an amber-like appearance. This, of course, she believed appropriate. Because she was a very pretty girl.

Glancing up to him now, she waited – after all, mommy had just invited daddy to dinner. It was, so to speak, his turn at the game, and she waited with bated breath for her new playmate to expand the scenario further.

His earlier apprehension at playing ‘family’ was practically beaten out of him with the adorable excitement that the young Attaya displayed at the idea of now having a new play mate. She wriggled around, backside wagging, before she eagerly tapped her paw around the pebbles and explained who was who. Kade, her father and Maksim’s leader, was the biggest pebble. He had just gotten home from patrolling the borders. Next thing Maksim knew, another rather unexpected pebble was then gently pushed in Maksim’s direction and the man blinked back his surprise. Seems he’d be playing more than just Kade in this game. Fair enough.

The pebble he was handed was Rowan who was just like his father apparently: big and strong. Finally, he was going to get names to the bundles of black fluff. The one that his surprise the most, however, was the pebble called Mace. A small one and the girl described him as “puny and mean”. His ears flicked back momentarily. He knew all about sibling relationships from his own brothers and sisters and whilst they could fight, he’d never referred to his own flesh and blood as puny and mean. “Now, now,” he mumbled softly, peering at the girl with his green gaze, “that’s not nice of you to say about your brother.” She continued to explain which pebble was which. The remainders were Ava, Quil and her own pebble. Ava had “made” Kade some yummy food. What a strange concept! Making food! Had Ava conjured it up from thin air and created a meal for the king?

Apparently, it was his turn to play. So, with his big, pebble dwarfing paw, Maksim scooted the Kade pebble up to the Ava pebble. “Thank you, dear.” He gently clicked the Kade pebble against the Ava pebble. A kiss of sorts. “How was your day?” What a curious sight.

Maksim was a trooper – not that he was demeaning himself in any way, in the girl’s youthful eyes. Slightly miffed as he gently scolded her, the cub continued on as if nothing happened – missing no beat and accepting nothing as finality until her parents told her otherwise, Cinder moved to the beat of her own drum.

Brushing past the silver male’s declaration regarding family, instead they moved forward to play, and as pebble Kade tapped a loving embrace to pebble Ava, the ebony she-pup practically beamed at her new found best friend, her eyes sneaking up to stare at him softly. His green eyes caught the light with a gentleness that reminded her greatly of her father, and her gaze soon lowered back to the very important task at hand – the Attaya pebble family.

Cinder bumped pebble Ava closer to Kade, albeit clumsier than Maksim, despite her tinier paws. “My day wus good!” she slurred, attempting to pitch her voice slightly to better replicate a more mature adult – a hard feat for a cub with baby slur. “Cinder an’ Quil are such angels. How wus Rowan? I bet he helped! Not Mace though.” There was a small pause as the ebony girl peeked her eyes up to her playmate, waiting to see what reaction this would bring on. “Mace is puuuny and mean,” she finished, enunciating each syllable and drawing out the words more slowly now as she shifted pebble Ava back a bit. Of course Ava would never say such a thing – and of course Cinder didn’t truly feel that way about her oldest brother.. most of the time. But that didn’t mean she couldn’t say it if she wanted to.

With her cheeky grin in place, the girl swiftly rose up, an impish giggle escaping her before she spun, her paws loping away as she hoped to lead Maksim in to a game of chase instead. It would seem she had found a new playmate.
