[Darkwater packmates maybe? Hover for translation]
6-30-2013

Words: 549

She liked to mix things up, and she did so often, though most of the time for the better it seemed to be for the worst this time. Her fur was soaked, fishing was definitely a challenge, she tried to keep her shadow from hitting the water before catching, something her ma had taught her to do back when she was just a little girl. Not only had she seemed to scare away all the salmon, but she had gotten her fur soaked in the cold water that belonged to the falls. She’d just have to settle for a woodchuck or something that she could catch on land, something that she was much better at catching, or maybe she should have just stuck to a border patrol, it was too late now.

She hauled herself out of the falls and tried her best to shake out her fur, water droplets flying everywhere when she did so. Life in the Darkwater territory was too good to be true at times, but amazing other times. It all depended on how well she thought she did her job. She had told Ava she wanted to be a hunter, so she was doing her best to prove she could handle it all. "Prosto fantasticheskiy, ya moroz." She hissed to herself silently, her native tongue striking through her normally distorted accent as she tried to hide her foreign side. She often did find herself cursing in Russian; it was more of a final skill to her. She glanced around, taking in deep breathes to taste the air for prey, her nose scenting for it and she had finally found the jackpot.

Her target today, was a woodchuck scurrying along the paths by the falls, as if scrambling for something or to get away from something. All the same, she was fine with it, more than fine as she was careful with her pawsteps, her feet hitting the ground with little more than a light tap. She had to manage the weight she put on her haunches in order to catch the prey. She had always been told she was more lopsided than a badger and she would prove to them that she wasn’t some lumbering wolf, or she would end up dead from trying. She leapt in one fluid action, the woodchuck’s confusion playing to her abilities in catching an animal and with one swift bite to the neck, the animal was limp and she had caught some prey for the caches.

She prided herself with the catch for only a moment, figuring that the den wasn’t too far from there, she could go and put it with the cache and then she would have just enough time for a quick patrol before it became dark, and she found it the best time to hunt. The sun was setting to the horizon, disappearing as the moon took its place with the stars in the night. Night was a more… avid time for her, and with her fur soaking, she didn’t want to be out and risk freezing to death. Perhaps when she got back, she would just stay in the den and seclude herself until her fur dried, though she had shaken a lot of the surface water off.

Rowan Attaya

Life was going very well for the Attaya youth. Every day for the past month had been an adventure, soaking up the most of this territory that belonged to his pack. Boundless energy propelled him through constant explorations, though he shared his time equally with schoolyard fights with his siblings and a good quality naps within the cool confines of the den.

He'd been growing quite steadily: his limbs had lengthened considerably, his strides were more confident than ever. His paws hadn't quite made it to the overtly-huge stage that was coming, though his ears dwarfed his head and his tail remained skinny. His eyes were, for the time being, an almost olive-green color as they transitioned out of the dull puppy blue he'd been sporting. Soon enough they would change entirely to the yellow-gold destined for him, but never would they lose his childish wonder.

For the moment he had lost track of his siblings, enjoying a romp through the grasses on his own - at least he had been, until he spotted a dark shape approaching the den. He could tell Mom and Dad apart from up close, but as he watched the dark yearling approach the den Rowan had no way of knowing it wasn't Ava or Kade. Size relativity was a concept he'd quite yet to grasp. Certain that it was one parent or the other and not a stranger a mischevious delight sparked in his chest. Suddenly the den site disappeared from his vision and all he saw was a shadowy arena. There he stood, the assassin, preparing for confrontation. From the other side approached the bad guy, who he had to stop!

Rowan scurried off toward the side of the den, hiding behind a cluster of rocks. Eagerness had him flexing his toes, trying his hardest not to let his swishing tail smack into the stone surface beside him. Once he found Isa close enough Rowan would shoot forward from his hiding area, a roo-roo-rooooo of a battle cry ripping from his gaping jowls as he launched an attack on her ankles.

Notes: Sorry this is a bit sucky

Isabel smiled as she had been heading back, her fur was still wet and she felt something latch onto her ankles, in a confused and almost disoriented state, she turned, and ended up tripping and falling to see the young Attaya boy had found her ankle and decided to bite it. "Akh, shchenki budut shchenki." The words that her mother had always repeated coming into her head, and she realized that she had once more, spoken in Russian, which seemed almost important to her now that it was all she had left to cherish when she thought of her past, it was almost like her yelling out to the skies at the top of her lungs that she was proud, except it took only a few words no one would understand and no one would want to know the words as well, at least that was most of the time.

Isa held her smile as she spoke to the little pup. "’Ey, you must be one of Lady Ava’s boys right?" She asked, wanting to make sure, however silly it seemed, this puppy was Ava’s and not someone else’s. She always found herself a bit on edge when it came to puppies, like she was terrified of screwing something up when she was around them, or course it was true, she was afraid of letting them down or something of the sorts. She too her paw and gently batted at his ear, when she was a puppy, her parents never allowed much time to play; it was all lessons and more lessons to ‘prepare them for the outside world’. She giggled a bit, like a school girl hearing something funny, a small joke, but it was all the same to her. Her tail had been fluffed up, her fur bristling before she had realized who it was, then it had calmed down considerably, her tail wagging at the sight of him.

Gonna just... Smash in here 'cause it said AW. :D I got called into work so I'll fix the profile and such later on and post in other threads and stuff~ Requested Mephisto's removal here so as not to break any character limit rules!

On lumbering paws, the porkiest of the Attaya kids waddled from the foot of the hill to the top, where the main den could be found, with head slung back in youthful pride and tail waving over his bony hips. He was practising, you see, the stance his father sometimes used around pack members, although Mace's impression was almost hyperbolic in nature, for his neck was beginning to ache from the strain of keeping his snout pointed toward the sky, and his tail couldn't have pulled any further up and forward if he tried. It led to a sort of clumsiness in his step; he could barely see where he was going, and had to rely on his still-sensitive paw pads to guide him, although really the pup would bite at a lip every once in a while when his foot came into contact with something sharp.

When he reached the top of the hill, he spread his lengthening legs apart to square himself (improperly, for his posture would make him easy to knock over) and glared at the nearest weed on the ground. Ya're on Darkuh-wa'er terr'toreee! he yowled, waving his tail even more vigorously and imagining it was an angry motion. Ya leave! When the weed was unresponsive, the Attaya babe growled and said, you as'ed for it!

In a matter of moments, the playful child had pounced on the weed—an unassuming dandelion, as it turned out—and torn it from the earth, but his act of leader-for-the-day was lost the minute the fluff tickled his nose and forced a sneeze from his lips. He giggled, working his jaw as though to rid himself of the urge, but he sneezed three more times before he was successful, and by then, Mace wasn't looking like a very regal leader at all. When his laughter died down, the pup pushed himself to his feet with a wobble, no longer holding a ridiculous posture but instead adopting the excited bounding of a cub, and pranced away from the decimated weed.

In this manner, he accidentally came upon Rowan. Instantly the child lowered himself to the ground and attempted to stalk toward his younger brother, which might've been successful if his large paws hadn't been knocking rocks the whole way, or if his body didn't make the grass swish so much when he practically stomped through it. His rump wiggled in anticipation, and the child was just about to leap with his own battle cry when Rowan took off, sailing through the air in a launch. Perplexed by the suddenness of this, Mace paused, wide-eyed, until Isadora's voice from behind the rock snapped him from his reverie. He didn't know her, but that was okay. Mace was the most confident, not only in himself but his entire family; if she was a stranger, his parents would have found her and kicked her out by now!

No! he replied before Rowan could get in a word. Mace propped himself up on the rock with his front paws, looking down at Rowan's target and his brother with his mouth parted in a wide puppy grin and tongue lolling. Rowan's jus' stinky, I's Lady Ava's boys! He was joking, of course; Rowan would likely pick up on this, since the black youth couldn't keep himself from giggling mischievously at the end of it and hunching his shoulders in a playful abashed sort of way. He loved his brother, even if they were kind of rivals, and truly thought Rowan smelled far better than their sisters, though that might've been because they were girls.

Rowan Attaya

The fearsome predators jaw's clenched around his prey's ankle, blood spurting out from all angles and drenching the battlefield. He tasted the victory like he tasted the red liquid, sweet and hot and unmistakable. Soon he would - but his imagination took a slight pause as reality knocked in the form of Mace's voice. Blinking he stopped gnawing obnoxiously on Isa's leg, no longer surrounded by a darkened arena and once again in the grassy opening just beyond the mouth of the den. His large ears swiveled in time to pick up on his older brother's accusation.

Normally Ro would've followed Mace's lead but he hadn't really given him much of one - unless he wanted to be a stinky swamp monster, but he'd been that last time and he didn't wanna be it again. So instead Rowan let go of his grasp and swung around, his tail raising as high as it could go (with a little help from him pushing his butt up as well) and lined himself up so his body was parallel to Isa's. Not looking up to see that she would clue in on his idea, as he was certain she already magically knew what he was thinking, Rowan proclaimed, "Nuh-uuh, he's no Lady Ava's boys neeeeether. He's a robber an' he gonna take all our treasures!" Each word grew in excitement and volume until he was practically spitting all over the grass, a wild grin blazing on his dark face. He looked up to see what his mama thought and it was not Ava!

With a yelp of shock, for he truly had believed it to be one of his parents coming up the way (narrowing it down to mom once the voice had been feminine, nevermind what the actual content was), Rowan tumbled forward in an effort to scramble away from the stranger. Lacking in any and all grace the boy stopped himself from cowering behind Mace's larger body, coming to a puffy halt. Eyes wide with a lessening terror he barked, "Whossat! Whossat?" He leaned his weight from paw to paw, fribbling needlessly. This time he actually paid attention, quite intent on discovering the identity of his near cohort.

Isa laughed to herself when the second Attaya boy came into view and said Rowan was just stinky, where Rowan did counter with the fact that the other boy was a robber. Then she realized, it was a game to them! "Well who do I believe…. The stinky boy or the robber boy?" She asked with a chuckle. But soon Rowan back up as if confused, and she realized what had happened, Isadora looked like Ava when it came to fur color, and the little boy’s vision wasn’t the best, as all puppies had bad vision, so Rowan had thought that Isadora had actually been his mother, Ava. "Whossat! Whossat?" Isadora needed to think quickly; what would she tell the boy who was not practically shaking behind his brother, who seemed to have no issue with Isa being there or who, she was.

She kept a happy smile on her face as she looked at them. "I’m sorry, I think I’ve forgotten something. I’m Isa, a friend of your moms, part of the pack." She said, her voice gentle as she sat down since it appeared the pirates had stopped attacking her with their little game, her fur was still a bit wet, and the Attaya boys were too young for food, so she couldn’t give them the woodchuck or anything, but things would happen. The little boys reminded Isabel of her and her sister when they were growing up, always so fiercely brave, until something new entered the scene. Now look at her, on the run from a man she did not liked, a man who she did not love and she would have been forced to marry.

She kept her head down, as she always had, but it hadn’t done her any good, it didn’t hide the fact that Indiago was after her, and it wouldn’t change the fact that he would chase her until he died {which she hoped was soon}. Her tail wagged a bit as she waited for one of the boys to understand that she was a friend, or they could just not believe her and run to their mother, who would also say that she was a friend no doubt, or at least say she was a packmate. Isadora hoped to run into Ava sometime so they could talk about perhaps leading that hunt together, but all in due time, she just wanted to get use to the normal run of things in the Darkwater Rapids group.

I like to treat puppies like little comedy acts while they're real little, so this is Mace slipping up real bad on word pronunciation kekeke

The black-haired babe was quite proud of the effect his words had, for no sooner had Rowan heard his voice than he spun and set the make-believe stage for their newest game. Mace's face wrinkled into defeat as his brother called him out as a robber, and though Isadora may have played along, Mace only had eyes now for the brother who had found him out, so he didn't truly notice. Drat! Nuh-uh I's got lossa treasures, I on'y steal priiiitty girls from stinky brothers! He was about to leap onto the scene with a battle cry to sweep Isadora away and steal her into the night like a true Bowser, but suddenly things took a serious shift as Rowan appeared to realize that Isadora was… Well, a stranger.

His fur crept upward into little ridges along his neck and shoulders as his brother fled from the feet of the very woman Mace had been about to steal away; if Rowan didn't know who she was, and Mace didn't know who she was, and mama wasn't there to make sure it was okay… Then that meant Isadora could've been a bad guy. The little two-month-old squared himself against this newest threat, puffing himself up as best he could so that he looked larger and more capable of defending his brother, and instantly he parroted the younger Attaya with his own iteration of, Whossat?!

But, of course, a pup's flaw was naivety, or at least in this pup's case it was true; the second Isadora said she was a pack member, Mace deflated, utterly convinced it was so. After all, she'd said their mother's name, they just had to be friends! Having accepted her as a friend, there was no reason not to keep playing, and all too quickly the pale-eyed youth was whirling around to face his puppy comrade-in-arms.

For you see, Mace had suddenly and inexplicably recalled the memory of a scary bed-time story where a big scary bear changed himself into a wolf and hid amongst wolves so he could gobble up puppies in the night. Mace didn't know what a bear looked or smelled like, but it had sounded scary. And while it took him a moment to recall the word that had been used, he belted it out with all the straight-faced pride of a child: She's lyin'! She's a shitter! He turned back to her with a sly grin plastered all over his face, completely unperturbed by his slip-up on "shifter", because he had no idea what he'd actually said was a bad word. You be'er run! We're the bestest shitter-hun'ers around! Right Rowan?!

Eyes as round as olives and roughly the same color locked on the dark stranger, Isa, as she quickly explained herself. The yearling sat down and somehow the absence of towering legs overhead eased the pup's thundering heart. A slow wag started in his stubby tail, the beginnings of a grin tugging on the corners of his mouth as he turned to see what Mace made of the situation. She's lyin'! his brother proclaimed, and for a moment Rowan's fur stood on end again. "Whaa?" He blurted, astonished and somewhat jealous that Mace was so perceptive - and then he picked up on the older boy's game.

"Oh!" Rowan jumped in the air, pleased to be in on the joke and trying very hard to recover from his earlier blunder. He pawed at the ground with mischievous anticipation, tail wagging jovially as his brother laid out the new game. Of course Rowan didn't know the proper word - he knew what Mace was talking about, but shifter had not found its way into his vocabulary. So he proclaimed, with a toothy grin and a voice loud with excitement, "Yeah! We's the best. Yoouu can't shit on us!"

Bouncing in place he lifted his chin to the sky and attempted a manly howl, an unfortunate mockery of the calls he had heard dad make before. He wanted to sound big and scary and important, like Kade was, but his voice squeaked halfway through and his call didn't travel very far (thankfully). Having initiated the battle sequence he next dropped to a crouch, eyes locking on Isa as their target with zeal. "Watch out Mace! She gonna do the do!" To be quite frank Rowan wasn't sure what 'do' he was talking about, but he figured there were plenty of possibilities. Maybe she was going to attack. Maybe she was going to run away. Maybe she was going to shift. Either way, she was going to do the do and he and his brother had to be prepared!

OOC:Shitty post, sorry :/ Hover=Translation

Isadora heard only one word out of that entire thing, and that was the word they probably wouldn't have wanted her to hear... shitter. She wasn't mad per say, but she was a bit upset that someone had 'taught them' such language. She hadn't grown up with the legends of shifters, her parents were more into evil wolves that would steal children when they traveled too far from they're parents at a young age, and after that, she was, after that, just in training, no stories were told to her by anyone so she figured the boys had overheard it and started to use it without knowing what it was. She started to rant off to the boys in an almost cooing tone, her eyes had a small little hint of being upset in them.

"Kak ty smeyesh' deti ispol'zuyut takoy fol slova peredo mnoy. Pochemu ya dolzhen iskat' vashey materi ili ottsu pryamo seychas, i rasskazat' im o takikh veshchakh." She ranted off, not realizing that she was speaking in Russian {which she had a knack for not noticing such things}. She calmed herself down. "I will never run from a challenge." She said playfully, realizing with her odd language she probably scared the poor boys out of their skins. She almost laughed to herself, she felt a bit important for no apparent reason. Her fur was still wet, and she watched the men to see what they were going to do. She took it as a complete and utter challenge of her will to play with the pups. She rarely ever got a chance to play when she was younger.
