The weather was warming as her belly grew, both contributed to her discomfort. She very much detested that spur of the moment interaction with the young Valle. How easy it must have been for him, to just have a good time and not have to deal with any of the consequences. The young ginger woman could not figure out which was worse...this or that irritating heat. The constant hunger, the pressure in her belly, the movement of the pup/pups that caused her to yelp in surprise the first time it happened.

Cynder has grown accustom to the movement, it no longer surprising her. There was a nagging deep within her core that pushed her to seek out a small dark place. Her instincts pushing her to find a den in preparation for birth. The pale tawny woman wandered deeper into the mountain towards one of many caves that laid within. No need to make one herself when nature and the gods have provided many to choose from.

Her wandering lead her to the large outcrop that brought a small smile to her reddish cream maw. The memory of racing Sov up it making her tail swish to and fro. Stormy blue grey eyes glanced over her shoulder at the size of her belly. It was much larger now then it had been then. No way to make it to the top in this condition. A huff of irritation blew from her lips. This pregnancy was more a hinderance than anything else. A raindrop plopping on her nose pulled her from her irritation. One, then two then four until water fell all around her in a light shower.

It was oddly calming. Letting the cool light water soak her coat as she sat with her eyes closed the expecting mother simply enjoyed. She didn't know how long she sat there, but it was long enough that she was soaked all the way through. The drizzle faded away leaving a partly cloudy sky behind. Giving her pelt a good shake Cyn wasn't able to rid herself of all the water due to her size but didn't care enough to try again. She continued her hunt for a den.

She struggled climbing up and around boulders, her usual nimbleness gone. Her need for a den and lack to do the work herself pushed her to continue. Her stormy gaze spotted an opening that was large enough for her to fit but not large enough that she'd be in the open and exposed to the outside world. It was just high enough to require a short climb, another pro for her. On unsteady still wet paws she began to climb.

She was almost up to the entrance when her back paw slipped our from beneath her. Cynder landed square on her belly with a loud yelp that echoed across the rocks. A sharp pain laced her abdomen that sucked the air from her lungs. She needed to get inside immediately. She pulled herself up the rest of the way and slipped into the cave. The cool air enveloped her damp fur as she collapsed to the ground with a pained whine. She clamped her eyes shut as another sharp shooting pain lashed out.
The snow may have melted down in the Edens, but the mountain was still frozen solid, and as the witch’s body too had cooled, they were more than happy to return to the peak. Except the summit was not only cold, but abandoned, barely a trace left of the wolves who had vowed to fortify it. Of course, Apolline too had been gone for a full cycle of the moon, chasing visions with nothing to show for it, so they could hardly blame their other supposed pack mates. Still, it felt wrong to see the mountain unprotected; Never again! Whatever The God had planned, it would find the One-eyed Prophet here.

But the rest of the chosen? Were any even nearby? And were they still willing to pledge their allegiance, even without their leader?
Turning from the desolate peak, Apolline spied another spike nearby, one they hadn’t seen before. Curious, they headed south towards the tower, but stopped in the slight valley between the two, where they we sheltered from the frigid winds whipping around the pinnacle. Here, they raised their head, letting out a long, powerful howl, calling to their comrades. It was not a command, not even a beckon really, more of a question; Are you still in?

The mountain was as unforgiving as they remembered, piles of snow and ice, blown into miniature storms that whipped their face with painful stings. To most wolves, it surely must seem a God’s forsaken place, but not to the witch. In fact, they had never felt closer to the higher power guiding them than they did on the peak – the brutality of its nature a mirror of The God’s cold, unforgiving authority. It would take time and effort, carving out a life here, but the one-eyed prophet was determined to do so, or die trying.

Walking along the perilous mountain roads, paying careful attention to where they put every paw, Apolline had no particular destination, simply letting impulse guide their path. Pareyl’s pack had yet to fully take form, as he awaited the right moment for their first sacrifice, and the witch eagerly awaited The God’s sign, spending hours wandering like this, turning over their recent dreams, searching for meaning.

One figure that had been recurrent lately, was a pale wolf of small stature, their face always obscured yet something about them made Apolline feel safe and peaceful. Whatever it meant, they were sure it was a message from The God – and so, when the winding trails let them down into a protected dip between two peaks and they caught sight of a white wolf up ahead, they felt their heart jump into their throat.

Without pause, the prophet hurried forwards, single eye narrowed against the whirling snow; This is it! Whoever this pale figure was, whatever it was, it was meant for Apolline.
