It had taken him awhile to get used to the silence, and how still the air was. Out here on his own in the snow covered expanse he was by himself. Siblings didn't nip at his heels in their attempts to get him to join in whatever antics they had planned. Elders didn't try to impart their wisdom and force him to sit for long hours as they told him tales of things from long ago. Parents didn't try to convince him that the wolfess from the neighboring pack would be a good match for him. He was completely and utterly alone.
He had never felt more free...or so lonely.
Specter stared out across the snow as it whipped into the air. He could always turn back and return to his family. They would welcome him with smiles and delighted howls. He could imagine the delight of his siblings and how they would question him for details on his adventures, despite how short it would have been. His parents would tease him before setting him to work. It would easy to go back to them and continue on as if he had never left.
Yet, his paws led him forward and further from everything he had known.
